Do you have a track listing? The Japanese CD I have doesn't have the whole of the first album on it, its track listing is: Happy Ever After Cocooned (live) The Other Woman (live) My Mistake (live) My Lover's Keeper Where Does the Time Go? The Comfort of Strangers (extended version) Invisible War (live) Behind Closed Doors (live) The live tracks were recorded in November 1988 at the Pavilion Theatre, Glasgow by Radio Clyde (the local radio station). The other tracks come from the "Julia Fordham" album. The catalogue number is VJD 2501 and it was distributed by Virgin Japan. The cover is purple, black, and white, and is different from that of the first album. If the German special edition has any songs on it that are not on the list above, nor on "Julia Fordham" I'd be keen to get hold of a copy. -- Regards Steve Fagg ( S.L.Fagg@bnr.co.uk +44-279-402437 ) BNR Europe Ltd., London Road, Harlow, Essex, CM17 9NA, UK *** "Better drowned than duffers. However, there are still copies floating around out there. I haven't seen any in stores, but I got mine from Columbia music club about 2 months ago. Strangely enough, I ordered _Choke_ from them after it had been deleted but had no idea that I was getting something special. About 2 days after I got the CD, people on alt.music.alternative were talking about how impossible the album is to find because it is no longer being made in the US. This really shocked me since I got it from one of the most mainstream sources for music. Anyway, Columbia may have another copy, if you're interested. I totally agree. I couldn't have said it better myself! BTW, thanks, Vickie, for the Sheila Chandra interview. I knew nothing about her until I read it, and now I think I need to get some of her stuff. I almost bought one of her discs last night, but a friend of mine informed me that Kirsty MacColl is coming to Atlanta in 2 weeks. I had no idea she was even touring, so I ran out and spent my money on Kirsty tickets. But, Sheila is definitely on my list of things to buy. Which is the best to start with? There were only 2 I could find, _Weaving My Ancestors' Voices_(?) and one other whose name escapes me. Marked down to $10.99. Almost didn't notice it there, but I tend to notice the sale priced items. Hee! So, I bought it, listene to it.... Wasn't quite what I expected, but I must say I was really* impressed by Happy's vocal range, and her songwriting. I'm not a large fan of keyboards, so I'd be interested in hearing some of her older stuff, I think... with more guitars? Or so it sounds from what I've read here...? I haven'T listened to it enough to give a really good review, but I will get to it... Soon. :) Oh. Finally a quiet moment to respond to your mail. ?How did I hear about Ecto and Happy? Here's my story. Back in February I started guitar lessons, and since my lessons happenned immediately after work I started bringing my guitar into MIT. Then I started meeting everybody who played guitar, wished they played, used to play, or just like guitar music. Anyway, one day a student handed me a tape of Vol. I&II and said "check this out". I didn't listen to it right away. Later we got together and actually figured out how to play "Would that I Could". For my lessons, I'm learning how to play by ear-learning what to listen for...So I'm working alot with that tape. It's good to study one person intensely, learn all their tricks... To learn "Would that I Could" I actually went to the library, found "Midsummer Nights Dream" found the words and copied them. I still didn't know anything about Happy. All I had was that one tape. So I started asking around, bugging people to get information. Finally, in September I found someone here on campus who printed out the words to every Happy Rhodes song (it seems). And he gave me this e-mail address. I was surprised. My first e-mail was from the UK and my second from BC. Isn't e-mail grand. This past September I was in Paris where I have a very modest fan club of 4. I have 3 or 4 songs I can play and sing well, but the favorite is "Would that I could". I'm supposed to get sheet music for a friend so he can play it on the piano. I was so inspired after that, that a week after my return I went out to this coffeehouse and played at an open mike. My first live guitar performance. I was so nervous, but glad I did it. Actually the place was a bar. The "Black Rose". Half the people there were musicians, the other half were just people who wandered in off the street to get trashed on a Wednesday night. The MC made a big point of announcing "this is Diane's first time, so be gentle". The place got extremely quiet and people actually listened for the first verse. After that they got pretty rowdy again. I'm now looking for a real coffeehouse where people go to *listen* through a song. A place more supportive for a beginner like me. About Happy, I think she has an amazing voice. Her range is amazing- just in one song. I like that, I think her songs have a good balance. I don't like listening to high voices that never come down to the planet or low ones that never get off it. She's really interesting. And her finger picking is fun/challenging for me to learn. And, of course, her lyrics...What can I say? They're haunting. I'm glad to have something substantial to work with. I've learned "Would...", and "Wretches have gone awry", next is "Under & Over the Brink". I would love to see her *live*. I'd love to hear about concerts, talk about music in general, meet people, maybe get together to play... I actually have to do some work now, but I'm glad Iwas able to write today, finally. Thanks for responding to my mail.
