Returning from my five-day mid-semester break, to an overflowing e-mailbox (of course!). The ecto was all messed up and confused, but I think I'm semi- sort-of caught up, although I got a bunch of messages from September today- whatever. I give up. :) I'm glad there was at least one haven from the gaffan fire-wars. I ran into the KaTe-TopiK on GEnie for solace- but it's boring there. Last night I dropped a bomb- just to generate discussion- hopefully it'll work! ;> Speaking of GEnie, some friends and family of mine are on it, and in mentioning the whole Cynthia thing they asked what her name was again, then I got a "Oh- *her*!" Apparently she does this everywhere, so Jorn and Vickie, it's not you!!! :) Vickie, I *have* finally procured a 100-minute tape, I'll send it out tomorrow, I promise!!! :) ================================================================================ Meredith Tarr "Oh yes I know I'm always falling, mtarr@eagle.wesleyan.edu Gazing at hazy goldfish in your swimming eyes" Wesleyan University -Kate Bush ================================================================================ ======================================================================== Date: Wed, 23 Oct 91 18:00 EDT From: Subject: one of my posts got lost somewhere... vicki- yes it's michele (1 'L' though) =) do you still do your radio show? can you let me know the frequency? i have a good friend in evanston who is a kon- vert to KaTe thanks to me always harping about her. i think she might like to hear it... =) kirst- love the lyrics to 'witchcraft'...awesome song! =) can you send them to me when you have a minute? and could you also send the label of that album so i can record it properly on my log? If I am around when it airs, I'll record it, and offer to make copies for a handful of Ecto people who will offer to do the same thing. Why 2 rooms? what a limp title! and the radically different styles of photographs of the performers give a kind of chilly distancing, like 'we didn't care enough to come together in his honor' and the songs sound *so* 70s... i do like rocketman, but it seems full of pain, like the chin-in-hands pose of her glamourpic. that burnt-fuse strum is the most despairing sound i've ever heard from kate, though the sense of digging deeper for life is still strong. sorry if i'm repeating rmg-comments, but do her BV's sound Sugarcubes-like to anyone? (if she hasn't learned to program the new generation of synth, can't we blame that on poor interface design? why should an artist have to program, dammit!?) is ecto flamefree enough for me to say i'm pleasantly surprised by Bon Jovi and Rod's contributions? I never heard JBJ, sofarasiknow, and he acquits himself better than i expected. bruce hornsby also intrigues me.
