It's a long story. Thanks for telling the whole story. I can't believe how *tough* New Jersey is wrt the suspensions you got! I've never heard of such stiff penalties for such piddly infractions. Yow!! **HUG** I can't imagine any judge sending you to jail, unless he's *really* a hard-ass and wants to make you an example. If he does, we'll send you files in cakes, or, as in the movie _Fitzcarraldo_, we'll stand outside the jail and sing songs. We'll set up an Ecto band and sing Happy songs! Er, maybe a boom box would be better. Yeah, that's it! We'll set up loudspeakers like they did in Waco and play everything from Diamanda Galas to John Zorn. Uneasy-listening music indeed! We won't leave until they release you, or put us in jail too :-). (But then, you'll have company!) **HUG** Vickie ps, in my delinquent teenage years, I could have, and maybe should have, gone to jail or a juvenile detcen on more than one occasion. I was *so* lucky and never got caught. pps, before we moved up to Chicago, I'd spent 5 years driving a car without tags or insurance. I got caught 3 times and only had to pay fines, so New Jersey is *definitely* stricter than Kansas or Missouri. ======================================================================== Date: Mon, 15 Nov 93 19:21:44 CST From: kiri Subject: speaking of Conan did any of you happen to catch Beeyerk the other night. Welcome to Ecto! Sue, you asked about Longhouse and I do have one LP. I should dig it out and listen to it. I've always wondered where that group went to. Lisa Herman has been around for *ages* though. I've been wracking my brain to try and remember her history and I'm sorry but I'm still blanking out. I know that she used to sing with an obscure, progressive rock band *years* ago. I just can't remember which one. They would have been better known in the UK than North America (except to people who followed such bands avidly) and I want to say Henry Cow, but I don't think so, because I know that Dagmar Krause was their singer. It wasn't Gong either. If I remember anything (unless someone else comes up with the answer) I'll post about it. It was *wonderful* to hear your voice too, and Klaus, Claudia, Christo, Tim, Perttu, Uli and Wolfgang too!! It was such a treat, and a very uplifting suprise. I was depressed and in a dark funk when the call came and I don't know if anyone could tell, but I was crying with happiness through most of the call. If I was incoherent, it was because I was trying not to burst out in sobs :-). Words are so inadequate to say how much the call meant to me. I have such a hard time expressing gratitude and thanks for kindness shown to me and sometimes people think I'm not appreciative of such kindnesses. I am though, and it is an amazing feeling to know that so many people on Ecto, including many who have never even met me, care about me. I feel it in posts, letters, e-hugs, snail-mail, and phone calls such as the one on Saturday. Oh wow! I love you all, I really do. **HUGS** to everyone, and happy boxes to all! Nighty night! I had seen a small ad saying that Anne Rice would be signing books in Chicago and also thought it would be a wonderful opportunity to give her Equipoise, but I *completely* spaced it off, forgot all about it :-(. Btw, on the TV show "Hard Copy" (I know, trash TV :-) but...uh, I was flipping channels on the way to...uh, PBS, yeah, PBS, and it happened to catch my eye) they showed what Tom "Mr. Scientology" Cruise looks like in Lestat makeup. The video was *definitely* unauthorized because they're trying to keep everything super top secret. I don't much care for Tom Cruise, and I've seen the interviews with Anne Rice where she has expressed her extreme disapproval of his casting, but I have to admit that the makeup is *very* scary and effective. Plus, as much as I hate to say it, Cruise *is* a good actor and will want to prove everyone wrong, prove that he can be good in such a role. I don't know, but it actually may not be a disaster. Then again, I haven't read the books, so I'm not familiar with the character at *all* and really shouldn't be stating an opinion about it. "Hard Copy" also said that Christian Slater will be taking over the River Phoenix (RIP) role of the interviewer. (They did interview Anne Rice for this feature and she mentioned that she would have liked River Phoenix in the role of Lestat. Other actors she mentioned were John Malcovitch, Daniel Day-Lewis and Jeremy Irons) Speaking of movies, Laura, I'm glad you liked _Fearless_ too! Yow!! my license was also suspended for a parking ticket in new brunswick that i didn't know about. when i first moved here in the summer, after my car broke down, i left it out on the street one day while i was at work. i guess they must have nailed it for non-residency - at least, that was what the person at the court said when i finally paid the fine. the problem was that i never got the ticket and they never mailed me a notice after- wards. still, ignorance is not grounds for dismissal so i paid the money to new brunswick and sent the fee to motor vehicles to get my license reinstated. jersey is stringent like this mostly since the state has such a dense automobile population. anytime they can think of a reason to keep someone off the road, they take it. :| +woj ======================================================================== From: S.L.Fagg@bnr.co.uk Subject: Re: fumbling towards ecstacy Date: Wed, 17 Nov 1993 12:18:18 +0000 (GMT) On Wed, 17 Nov 93 at 07:01:42 EST woj@remus.rutgers.edu (the horizon you run to) wrote: > jessica@maurolycus.rutgers.edu (jessica) sez: > >I like the second (well, actually third, if you > >count the second version on the single) version of > >possesion too. it's not listed on the album track > >listing, and it has a funny negative time listing > >on the cd player. weird. > > heh. :) the "funny negative time listing" is just cos i pushed the time > button on the cd player so that it counted backwards instead of forwards. > > >I haven't seen mention of it. > > this is true though - 12 tracks are listed on the cd, twelve tracks are > indexed on the disc, but two of them are "possession"! what gives? what > am i missing? Like TRS, FTE seems to be spawning multiple variants! On the copy I have the second possession is not a separate track. The music of the final listed track (whose name I cannot remember off the top of my head) ends, and a period of silence ensues while the CD player continues to clock up time for the final listed track. Then, after quite a few more seconds than is normal between CD tracks, the second version of "Possession" starts, still with the CD player clocking up time to the final listed track. This continues to the end of the CD. Thus, on my copy, the final track (as far as the CD player is concerned) contains two songs - the final listed track and the second version of "Possession" - with a long silent gap between them. From my perspective this means I get everything listed on the CD with a bonus of the second version of "Possession", I don't think I'm missing anything at all. In fact I think it's a very neat idea! Can you explain how your copy differs from this, woj? Of course it may be that the CDs are the same but that our players are behaving differently. -- Regards Steve Fagg ( S.L.Fagg@bnr.co.uk +44-279-402437 ) BNR Europe Ltd., London Road, Harlow, Essex, CM17 9NA, UK *** "Better drowned than duffers. Of course it >may be that the CDs are the same but that our players are behaving >differently. well, since my cd player isn't behaving at *all*, i'll have to let jess or dave steiner answer this one for me (hey, which one of you finally ended up with the cd anyways?). my vague memory of what transpired last night is that the second version of "possession" was its own track, but i am not sure about that since i was not paying that much attention. i was working and suddenly looked up when the last song turned out to be "possession", looked at the index on the player and it said 12. it's possible (and probable) that this is just an addon to track 12 since i did not look at the cd player while the song before it was playing. +woj ======================================================================== Subject: Improving people's musical tastes, whether they like it or not :-) Date: Thu, 18 Nov 1993 00:48:59 +1100 From: anthony baxter > From: kmorrey@casbah.acns.nwu.edu (Kathleen Morrey) > > [...] > > BUT I KEEP TRYING! and will go on trying, until I either wear them down to > actually enjoying it, or at least letting me have my turn of listening to it > every once in a while. She doesn't know what it's called, and I can't remember what it's called, and neither of us know where to find it. Anybody? I was lucky enough to catch the Jane Siberry show Saturday night in San Francisco when I was in town for my sister's wedding. What a stroke of luck! This is the third time I've seen her (all at the same place too) and every time it's been totally different, but equally compelling. She's really amazing. Others proceed with caution!! I discovered after listening to a couple more Momus albums that I'm not really a Momus fan, I'm a _Circus Maximus_ fan. _CM_ is a little more acoustic-based than his other things and for some reason throughout this album he really reminds me of Nick Drake--probably in the way the songs are constructed and the way his voice sounds. Anyway, I'm really glad that I found a copy of that album because I've already played one tape to death by car cassette and had to ask the friend who originally made me the tape to make me another.
