Well, according to today's Chicago Tribune, Larry EctoHawk has a good chance of becoming Idaho's governor. He's an American Indian, a Democrat and a Mormon. Apparently he is a shoo-in to win the democratic nomination in Tuesday's primary, and is leading the Republican candidate in the polls. And yes, that's really the spelling of his last name, capital letters included. So does this mean the ecto-planets will align on Tuesday, bringing good luck to all? At the time, I didn't have the album. Finally, I got a tape of it, but no lyrics. Now I have the CD (thanks, cath!) and have read the lyrics, and I had planned to post about it *today*. So what do I find when I get home? That mjm has posted the lyrics! Ectosynchricity... As near as I can guess, "Bury My Lovely" is sung from the point of view of an adult who was abused (molested?) as a child. I'm yet undecided if I think the adult had suppressed the memory and just recently become aware of it. "Something that was left behind / something in a child's mind". I'm feeling too lazy to look at each 'n every lyric and explain why I think this, but I suggest you look at the lyrics with this idea in mind and see if you agree. It's an absolutely amazing song... I talked to Happy earlier and we had a nice conversation. She sends along hi there & howdys to you all. There's a little bit of news, mostly concerning some live dates (*not* a tour) coming up. This is still a definite: >Second, Kevin has comfirmed a live date for August. Happy will be playing >a place called Joyous Lake in Woodstock on August 11. And it's almost certain that the next day, August 12, Happy will be playing the Woodstock festival along with other Woodstock local artists. So that's 2 shows in 2 days! I'll try to keep as updated as possible, but H&K are hardly ever home so it's hard to catch them to get information. Sometime in September, Happy will be playing a short set at a Yes fan convention in New York City. She'll perform 1 or 2 of her own songs (almost certainly from the next album, and a Yes medley. Bob Lovejoy (hi!) or others who hang out on alt.music.progressive might be able to get more information about this convention before I can. (Hint hint) :) The album is progressing nicely, and is still scheduled for August, though it might not be the first week in August. The only hint I got (musically) about the album is there are a lot of different guest musicians appearing on it. Happy said that it was a problem just trying to schedule everyone to get into the studio, but it's all coming together very well. I didn't get (didn't ask for) any song titles, but Happy did give me the album title. Oh, you want to know what it is? :-) Drum roll please..... "Building The Colossus" (I am *not* kidding!) Happy didn't explain it, but I'm sure one will be forthcoming. Vickie ======================================================================== Date: Mon, 23 May 94 20:10:27 EDT From: WretchAwry Subject: Happy Loves Milla! (and other stories) I forgot to add...we were talking about recent music additions to our collections and Happy's 2 favorite most recent CDs are Milla's "The Divine Comedy" and Alison Moyet's new album. She thinks they're both *wonderful*! She's also quite fond of the Frente! album (she loves the name "Marvin The Album" too) and of course, the new Yes album. I told Happy about the Kate KonvenTion and her song being played (she thanks Peter, Krys, David, Geoff for making it possible) and thanks Uli, Klaus and me for handing out sampler tapes. She'll let me know if she gets any feedback from any of that. She was very touched at our Happyvangelizing. Happy wants to know who sent her the great postcards of St. Petersberg (ack, I always forget...e or u?), Russia. My first thought was Mike Bravo (he lives there, after all) but then I thought Alex Gibbs. Mike? you still around? Alex, was it you? Anyway, she says thanks. The new album will have the ecto-request address on it. One of the reasons she called me was to get the correct syntax on it, because she is working on the credits for the album. Cover artwork is still a seeecret :-). It will also have the address of Rhodeways, the fanzine. Happy supports it wholeheartedly and said that she's seen some of the proof pages, and thinks everyone will be pleased with it. I'm still waiting, but I do think it's something that will do well, if Sharon can keep up with it. We computer types think "why?" because we don't need it, but when the new album comes out and non-computer folks buy it, there will be a place for them to go. Anything that's meant to help Happy...is good. That's about it. She's happy (and we're all happy too) and excited about actually being into the recording stage of the album. She's pretty isolated right now, so it was nice (for me) to share a little bit of her "off-time." One last thing...I did tell her about alt.music.ecto and #ecto and while I'm not *quite* sure she understood the big picture, she appreciated the involvement of everyone who helps spread her music and name around. Vickie ps, Happy sends special thanks to Klaus Kluge, Claudia Spix, Dirk Kastens (is anyone in contact with Dirk? I have to get a message to him), Paul Antonov and Mike Bravo, plus Bob Lovejoy, and the Ectophiles as a whole. The station has a fax number, so I faxed in a short letter which read: "Hi there.. I have a question for Sarah MacLachlan: What music do you listen to on the road? Had a chance to listen to that Happy Rhodes album yet?" She said (paraphrasing): "No, I haven't listened to it yet.. it got sent back home with some of my stuff.. " The DJ then said, "So who's this Happy Rhodes?" "She's this woman.. you know, a lot of people have been telling me about her.." nothing much after that; she got off on a tangent. By the way, she said that some of her favorite CDs were _Acadie_ by Daniel Lanois, _Closing Time_ by Tom Waits and _Apollo_ by Brian Eno. Considering the monolithic reputation that Live 105 has, this is a major breakthrough! :) D^2 ======================================================================== Date: Tue, 24 May 94 00:31 PDT From: marcelf@wimsey.bc.ca (Marcel Feldmar) Subject: unsubscribe UNSUBSCRIBE. sorry..... too much too little too late.... *_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_* marcelf@wimsey.com creative consultation textual manipulation drummer poet coffee addict ================================================================= "only cappuccino for you, baby" - Dwight Gardiner ================================================================= ======================================================================== Date: Tue, 24 May 94 11:16:06 EST From: Ilka Heber Subject: Second Hand record shops Hi everybody, I'll be going to Britain soon and I was wondering whether somebody could be so kind and let me know a few places that are good for finding second hand CDs in London.
