The deadline for the HBP is July 1st, not June 1st. You have another month to make your choice. :) Details should be expected in 3 or 4 weeks. If you've already decided about your selection, and how much time the song (and an optional message) takes, you can already let me know. Claudia and I have made our selection now, and I'm starting the new list today. ___________________________________________________________ . * | "Tell me all the plans you have for the great beyond. | _ . * .* . | Will you be physical again, or be a cosmic vagabond." | (_) . | --- Happy Rhodes --- | . . o | Klaus "cosmic vagabond" Kluge klaus@inphobos.w.open.de | <== ======================================================================== From: Jeanne B Schreiter Subject: Mother of the Garden (fwd) Date: Tue, 5 May 92 10:21:29 CDT Forwarded message: ======================================================================== From: Jeanne B Schreiter Subject: Mother of the Garden Date: Tue, 5 May 92 10:18:39 CDT (I wrote this poem this morning, while in the shower, no less. The answer is a definite yes. She was as amazing as everyone else has said. I'm sorry to hear that the riots kept you away. I got to Bimbos about 6:45. I didn't even know about the riots until after the concert, when they made an announcement to let everyone know what was happening. In any case, there shouldn't be any riots before the Tori Amos concert this Saturday. This was the last show of Sarah's tour. If you didn't get a chance to see her before San Francisco, then you'll unfortunately have to wait until her next album. She was very emotional about this being her last show. She introduced all of her band members and thanked all of her road crew, her tour producer, manager, etc. It was the lead guitar player's birthday, so Sarah had the entire audience sing Happy Birthday. I am hoping to to have a tape of the concert. If my copy sounds good enough, I'll see about passing it along for duplication. Also, is anyone else here attending the Tori concert in San Francisco? -Rodney Rodney Somerstein rodneys@apple.com CIS: 73167,2165 ======================================================================== Date: Tue, 5 May 92 09:32:51 -0700 From: rodneys@apple.com Subject: Re: 1st 4 CDs Hi all! Tra la la la la, that dear forbidden fruit Tra la la la la, tra la la la la Tra la la la la, la la la la la Tra la, tra la, tra la, la la, Tra la la la la la la la la laaaa...* It's May, the lusty month of May, That darling month when everyone throws Self-control away It's time to do a wretched thing or two And try to make each precious day One you'll always rue It's May, it's May, the month of yes you may The time for every frivilous whim, Proper or im It's wild, it's gay, a blot in every way, The birds and bees with all of their vast Amorous past Gaze at the human race aghast The lusty month of May Tra la, it's May, the lusty month of May, That lovely month when everyone goes Blissfully astray Tra la, it's here, that shocking time of year, When tons of wicked little thoughts Merrily appear It's May, it's May, the month of great dismay When all the world is brimming with fun Wholesome or un It's mad, it's gay, a libelous display, Those dreary vows that everyone takes Everyone breaks Everyone makes divine mistakes The lusty month of May *(Not believed to be an allusion to Jennifer Jason Leigh's character in the film adaptation of _Last Exit to Brooklyn_ :-).) On the downside, I can envision some right-wing satirist using it as background music for shots of the L.A. riots. On a completely unrelated note, the weather here has turned cold again, after being warm at the beginning of the month; this has, for better or worse, delayed the materialization of the scenic vista of sunbathers outside the residence hall--one of life's simple pleasures for quasi-middle-aged burnout cases like me :-). To all such negativists, let me simply quote the late humorist Allan Sherman, whose retrofit of "God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen" entitled "God Rest Ye Jerry Mendelbaum" closed with the line "May you not have a feeling of dismay/ Next May." I have limited funds and I can't figure out which two CD's to order right now. Rhodes Vol. I brings out a soul-gut wrenching emotion, especially Possessed. Rhodes Vol. II brings out a "I can't find my love, but I must survive anyhow" feeling. Rearmament brings out a "Accept me for the crazed person that makes me me" feeling. Ecto brings out a confrontation between the desires of the heart (to love and to not be hurt). (I'm going to probably end up ordering all of them NOW instead of waiting. I better buy a CD player! *smile*) Here's my Happy Concert review: the mulled over in time version. :) Before Happy's concert in Philadelphia I had heard Warpaint and Rhodes Vol. I & II. I first heard Warpaint in November 1991 and heard the Rhodes albums in January 1992. Upon hearing the Rhodes albums, I did not listen to anything else for weeks and I couldn't go back to listening to Warpaint because Happy's earlier music left me so entranced. I found so many emotions within me described. Unlike most other music, Happy's lyrics deal with the true emotions inside. We all have our own personal version of the "crazies" and her music makes the flaws of our being acceptable. Her music isn't about finding the perfect love and living happily ever after. Her music is about what's going on within one's self and the soul wrenching impact that all people make on each other. Her dynamic vocal range brings you in touch with the light, easy playful moments of life and the dark, secret and painful moments. Watching Happy in concert, I felt a lot of strength inside. I felt as though the message "Be who you are" was being portrayed. I really felt like her music was about faith and acceptance of all people. We all love and we all hurt and we all do stupid things that we wish that we had never done, but if we believe in ourselves and trust love, everything will work out. Her music makes me feel so human. The incredible blend of music from all of her albums shared years of emotion. It was like seeing glimpses of Happy's life portrayed through her music. As she played her music, I found myself delving into my past and giving her music personal meaning. Happy is a phenomenal artist. I've often found music that affects me, but I've never come across music that brings about such a feeling of self-acceptance regardless if I'm crazy or not. If any of you have a chance to see Happy in concert, GO! It's an incredible experience. I'm outta here! Christine :) "I know you loved me darling, but did you mean to hurt me so?" --Happy ======================================================================== The ecto archives are on hardees.rutgers.edu in ~ftp/pub/hr.
