Who, you ask? One of my favorite TV characters and TV shows, _Parker Lewis_ (formerly _Parker Lewis Can't Lose_). It's about time. I've missed it terribly -- the characters, the surrealism, the really bizarre camera work, the sound effects, the humor, and the really really tight scripts. You can all experience the coolness again (or perhaps for the first time) next Sunday at 7:00 (6:00 Central) on your local Fox station. Since Ectophiles have pretty much the best taste in everything, I hope you won't mind the above shameless plug. _Parker Lewis_ is my favorite show of recent times. I hope all the East-coast Ectophiles are doing well. The weather here in Oregon has been very typical the past couple of days -- cloudy with off-and-on rain. Before that we had a very enjoyable period of mild weather -- temperatures around 15-16 degrees (Celsius) and sunny. No blizzards or storms of the century here. I have heard that KLCC has already started playing tracks from _Equipoise_ without any prompting from me; hopefully if I and my friends get into the act we can make Happy the local sensation she deserves to be. I have another local Ectophile developing; after loaning her V.II and Ecto, she has become very interested, although the tracks from _Equipoise_ she heard on KLCC have made her most interested in getting that album. And if we can drum up enough interest to bring Happy here on her radio tour, I'll be in Ecto-heaven. ======================================================================== Date: Mon, 15 Mar 93 3:42:09 EST From: WretchAwry Subject: More hints The Mystery movies: The Bard plays Baseball Vickie ps, nice try Angelos! *Very* good guess! pps, remember, the songs are "Closer" and "Temporary and Eternal" ======================================================================== Date: Mon, 15 Mar 93 10:37:23 +0000 From: Terry Partis Subject: HaPpY Birthday Here's wishing a very Happy birthday to Alan Sodoma on 18th. Love it! > Reminded me a lot of the > Lindsey Kemp performances whose pictures I have seen. This isn't a comparison I would have drawn. What Lindsey Kemp performances do you mean? I've enjoyed seeing him possibly even more than Momix but whereas to me Momix is primarily about dance, the several different Lindsey Kemp performances I have seen have all been much more than just dance events. He puts on a whole show. If you think about KaTe's Hammersmith video with the relative importance of the movement and music reversed, I think that would come close to the feel of a Lindsey Kemp show. And the ones I've seen have always had a strong story line. Mind you, subtle he ain't. A possible contender for the Ken Russell of dance! I defy anybody to have neutral feelings about a Lindsey Kemp performance, you'll either love it or be totally turned off. I could imagine somebody saying of Momix: "OK that was pretty good but nothing special", not that that has ever been my reaction to them, but I'm not sure I'd believe anybody who said that of Lindsey Kemp. > Do go see > it if you get the chance. I think this exposes the whole problem many of us face in trying to select just one Happy quote. There's so many wonderful lines in her songs that it's impossible to select one over another. Perhaps we should use Vickie's list as the start of a database of quotes and then somebody (who's more au fait with such things than me) could maybe write a program to append a random choice from the database to an outgoing message. Well. The storm was not the storm of 'the century' in Cambridge, since it switched over to rain at some point, and we got 13" of the white stuff, that is now covered with a 2" crust of ice... :( The storm ruined my plans to go see Kristen Hersh, since I presume the show got cancelled or postponed... I did get to see _Bad Lieutenant_ though. Very disturbing picture. At least three members of the audience left, and everyone was just standing there staring blankly at the end. *Who* does the rap in that picture [I didn't quite catch the full credits...] BUT I am off to see Suzanne Vega tonight. :) Vickie wrote: >The Mystery movies: >The Bard plays Baseball If you think that you helped me, Vickie, you are wrong... A. Ezust) Date: Mon, 15 Mar 93 14:27:43 EST Subject: on the subject of CD singles Let me state for the record, that I *hate* cd-singles. I hated them ever since they were invented, but now that I own 5 of them by Tori Amos, I hate them even more. The world would be a better place if there were no such thing as CD singles. I never listen to the CD singles I already own because I like to be able to put a disc into my player, play it, and not have to change again 15 minutes later. With Tori, I put all 5 discs on one tape, and listen to the tape. What's the point of owning the CD if I listen to a tape of it all the time? There is none! There are a few groups which INCLUDE the bonus tracks of EP or CD singles on the next full-length CD. Legendary Pink Dots is one such example. I think this is a very good idea, so that people who want to hear the bonus tracks FIRST can get it fast, but those who want a complete collection of music, without any particular time constraints, can wait a little longer and get the full-length disc with the songs on them. Vickie, Bob - please convey this opinion to Happy and/or Kevin next time you see them. I refuse to buy any more CD singles, on principle, no matter who puts them out (except maybe Bel Canto, if they are ever available in this country!). If Happy does not take my suggestion, I will regret no longer being able legally own a "complete collection" of her music. I will probably just tape the "b-sides" off someone else. -- | Alan Ezust depeche@binkley.cs.mcgill.ca Montreal, Quebec, Canada | |------------- McGill University School of Computer Science ----------------| Chew your gum and close your eyes and nothing can annoy you. - E.Ka-Spel ======================================================================== From: special K Subject: Re: on the subject of CD singles Date: Mon, 15 Mar 93 14:51:09 EST Alan complained: > I never listen to the CD singles I already own because I like to > be able to put a disc into my player, play it, and not have to change > again 15 minutes later. My fave CD5s are: NIN-Head like a hole PG-Digging in the dirt Annie Lennox-Little Bird Annie Lennox-Walking on broken glass SOC-My Special Child b) More interesting artwork. My least favorite CD single is: PG-Steam (the limited edition version). I would love to own it, but $14.99 for a cool box and a live version of 'Games without frontiers' is too much. All the opinion polls predicted a Labour win, then John Major, who had not won an election, but replaced a PM who was challenged for the leadership (Maggie - who else), went and won it. Well, Paul J Keating, who challenged Bob Hawke for the leadership and after a couple of tries eventually wrested power about 16 months ago, who had not won an election himself, and was given Buckley's chance in all the opinion polls during the last few weeks, won. The only problem with the analogy is that John Major was Conservative, and Paul Keating is Labour. Well, John Hewson gambled too much with his controversial GST.
