I'm winding down my visit here and thought I'd just post a quickie. I went to Tower Records on Friday and there were about 15-20 Equipoise CD's. (Funny, no Warpaint or 1st 4). When I happened to be in the neighborhood again yesterday there were only 2 left! I was so pleased. I stopped in a few record stores (Sam Goody and the like), but saw no Happy. :-( I got to meet our new Ectophile Bob Lovejoy today! Thanks, Bob, for the neat tour of your video facility. It was fascinating! I've only had a few moments to check out WXPN and haven't heard any Happy yet, but when I was at Tower with my friend Ray yesterday I was telling him about Happy, Kate and Tori and he seemed interested, but not interested enough to just buy it on my word. So, we're driving home and I suggested that he turn on WXPN and there was our Kate Bush singing 'Running up That Hill'. He seemed to like it -- there's hope for him since he was in Tower looking for AC/DC live. So that's it for me from Philly. -chip ======================================================================== Date: Tue, 2 Mar 1993 15:02:26 -0800 (PST) From: Neile Graham Subject: Rebecca Jenkins and Mouth Music Rec. In reply to Mary Lou: Yes, Rebecca Jenkins, who sang back up with Jane Siberry, was in a Canadian movie (one that played here in Seattle for a loooong time and which I saw and which was a good & charming movie) called _Bye Bye Blues_. She played a woman trying to support herself when her husband was declared a prisoner of war. She forced her way into a big band and the band gained local popularity, playing at army sites, etc. The more I think about it, the more I'd like to see it again. I did once see a music video she had done and there was some music that accompanied it, but I recall thinking the song must have been a lot of fun for her to do (kind of a me with friends type song) but that it wasn't all that exciting to listen to. Certainly nothing on the scale of Jane Siberry's work. It was a mainstream pop-song. For Mouth Music, though I would heartily recommend the one called _Mouth Music_ (funny enough). I like the new one, but I *love* the old one. It has more of a Celtic edge to me, and that is something that fascinates me musically. All just IM[H]O, of course, but that's what you asked for. --Neile neile@u.washington.edu ======================================================================== From: Scorpii Subject: On the Joy of Being a Scorpio Date: Tue, 2 Mar 93 18:46:12 EST > Well, at least for us Scorpios, it's easy to explain: We're proud of > our sign! There is, I believe, a form of dyslexia (that lovely catch-all term for not being able to read easily) that involves not being able to ever translate the symbols for musical notes into actual music. I remember reading somewhere that Paul McCartney and Phil Collins, among many others, tried and tried to learn how to read music, but just couldn't figure it out. Kate can't read music? I don't think I've ever heard that before- she studied violin for a little while, I'm sure she picked something up that way. I learned to read music when I was 4- but never was able to do much with it, alas... :P Meredith meth@aol.com ======================================================================== Subject: Marisa Tomei Date: Tue, 02 Mar 93 16:59:07 -0800 From: johnz@eaglet.rain.com Vickie Wraves: > >When the show was over, I wanted to see something else so I went to >another theater downtown and saw _Untamed Heart_. (Well, I didn't like the fact that your grandmother died, of course, but I thank you for telling the story.) What follows is not a spoiler, I don't give away OLAL, but it might give clues that someone might not want to hear. Plus, it's pretty darn confusing :-). Remember the title? Of the album? I know the answer to OLAL, and though I won't post about it, I will say that it fits in some way. Indirectly. The answers are there, but it takes some digging. Maybe it's because I've heard the story from Happy herself (not OLAL, but one of the other clues) that it seems obvious to me, but might not to anyone else. I know that didn't make the slightest bit of sense, but it really does. This album really is deeper and much more personal than it might seem. I keep thinking that Equipoise should have come before Warpaint. Some songs, anyway. Geez, I love this album! There were 3 moronguys sitting in front of me who talked throughout the whole show. One of them felt compelled to say, at least once every 5 minutes, "Ugh, she's so *ugly*!" then the cretins he was with would say stuff like "you want to kissss her don'tcha?" and he'd go "noooo, she's so uuuuggggllllyyyy" and this went on through the whole film. It's just really a good thing that I'm a dedicated pacifist now, or else I'd be asking if the Cook County Jail has Internet access. Grrrr! Vickie ps, yeah! I loved her in My Cousin Vinny too! It's *SO* nice that she was nominated for an Academy Award for it. ======================================================================== The ecto archives are on hardees.rutgers.edu in ~ftp/pub/hr.
