Christine, Sarah McLachlan sounds like what would happen if you took HoL-era Kate, glommed her into some Joni Mitchell and stirred. Her voice is wonderful, and if you like Kate and Happy-related music, chances are you'll like her too. For those of you who are keeping April 5 open for a possible Happy show in Connecticut, feel free to make other plans. It can't happen then at this point. HOWEVER, we're working on a date in early May, which looks much more plausible from all angles involved...more info as I get it (can you tell this whole thing is getting more and more confusing yet?). If anyone wants to help me proofread my thesis and translate some Medieval Latin Love Lyric so I can see Sarah perform in NYC, please e-mail. I'm serious. Right now I'll have too much work to do to be able to blow off an evening and go to the show, but at the rate I'm going I just might say Screw It and do it anyway... Vickie, I hope you realize that the Earth-mother comment is meant as a total compliment. You're Ecto-Ma already, this isn't too far beyond that. :) Um, Ectoparty folks, watch it with the fuzzy-blue drinks. Or you too might look like Happy claims she does in the morning (cover of Vol. II ;). Yesterday I was feeling a bit down and decided tto head over to the Tower records near me, figured, I might as well listen to Tori Amos and see what all the talk is about. Okay, get there, get to the A's find the card for Tori Amos, and it's empty! *%^&$%@#$%%$%@ Okay, that idea is shot to hell, walk along the isle, get to Kate Bush, hmmm, what's this, I don't recognize this. Strange, I haven't heard any word about something from Kate with the exception of Rocket Man, but I already have that and know what it looks like. HURRAH! I don't care if it's something new from Kate, at least it's something I haven't heard from Kate yet. Anyhow, my question is, anybody hear of a Limited Edition Interview Picture Disk for kate? It contains two interviews with Kate after The Dreaming I guess and another interview from 85 after Hounds of Love I guess. At least there are some nice pics of Kate on the disc and on the cover. Buy the disk head over to Tower Video next door, guess what starts playing as I walk in???? Listening, not really paying attention, I know that song, where do I know it, it's not Happy, look up it's Kate from the Whole Story video! Guess yesterday was my day for Kate. Start heading home, hmmm passing a compact disc world, would they have Tori?? Hmmm, it's on my way might as well check, go on in, ask the guy does he have anything by Tori Amos?? "Do I have anything by Tori Amos!" he says and smiles and tells me to follow him. He's got a whole box full of Tori Amos's cd!!!! Even better luck, the cd's only $11.99! :) Oh, hey vickie, also picked up another Lene Lovich cd, The Stiff Years, Vol 1, I already have vol 2 :) Well, anyway, my little excursion raised my spirits a bit, still kinda down, oh well, it's the nature of the game. Wish I had thought to get a group picture of everybody in philly :( Talk to you all later Barry | Barry | Where lies evil in my kingdom, Merlin? - King Arthur | | Wong | Always where you never expect it. - Merlin | ======================================================================== Subject: estatic mews from a fuzzy blue Court From: ectoparty@inphobos.w.open.de (Courtney Dallas) Date: Sat, 28 Mar 92 23:11:16 GMT Courtney here...some members of the ECTO party are still on the phone with Vickie!!! So....we are currently taking a break, pigging out, calling Vickie, and sipping our "Blue Angels" (champagne and Curaco) (not easily mixed with cheese dip and chips but oh well!!!)!!!!! As i listen to the tapes of the concert...i look at the pix that Greg sent us and try to imagine that I am there! It iosnt hard since her music just sweeps you up and carries you away with it!!!(sip)(hick)(un-fuzzying eyes)!!!!! Party Report From: ectoparty@inphobos.w.open.de (Klaus Kluge) Date: Sun, 29 Mar 92 00:33:05 GMT Before the party continues, when Court and Chip return from the playground (remember? the swings?), some notes: Between dinner (mmmmh!!!) and the concert Steve VanDevender called (which must have been quite early on the west coast). Thanks Steve! It was good to hear your voice again! After that we lined up for the concert and were lucky to get some tickets. ;) We considered taping it, as Happy allowed it, but didn't do it eventually. ;) We also wanted to add a visual component to the concert. After considering and dismissing watching "Star Trek - The Motion Picture", we had MTV-Europe running; without sound of course. That created some weird combinations. [Neil Sedaka (sp?, oh, I don't care :) on the piano, with Happys music] The concert was really incredible! My favourite of the show was "Oh the drears". I like the live version very much. In the break between the sets, Ecto Europe called Ecto Central, and we were lucky to catch Chris&Vickie and not their answering machine. :) Other Ectophiles send messages or goodies (thanks especially to Greg, Woj and Angelos) and were in that way part of our meeting. Meredith, we even played "Champagne Jam" yesterday! ;) I'd also like to add, that, by walking in a circle, we performed a "walking toast" to Happy with a fuzzy blue drink. Apart from Happy we also celebrated a lot of other music, especially KaTe and Tori Amos. Thanks to Albert, we were able to watch same rare KaTe stuff (Rocket Man on the Wogan Show), and two live songs by Tori Amos. Well, back to business .... er .... the party. We still have some plans. Party Report Date: Sun, 29 Mar 92 5:00:10 CST Vickie here. Chris and I had a fine time talking to the European EctoParty earlier...thank *SO* much for calling Klaus!! The connection was beautiful. Chip and Michelle only live a few blocks away from us, and we agreed that it sounded as if her were talking from home instead of Germany. Klaus, Claudia, Court, Chip, Michelle and Albert, it was wonderful talking to you...what an incredibly nice suprise!! I do intend to try some of those recipies :-) gulp, gulp. Welcome to Tim! You're info is now on the birthday list. Thanks also to Christine for the info you sent. It was great meeting you and Dave and Robert and Charlie in Philly. You're a group I never got to say goodbye to, so...goodbye and *hug*!! Karl, thanks for the posting. Happy isn't everyone's cup of tea, but I was happy to hear that you would give the tape multiple listens. I'm also glad to hear that you love the atmosphere of Ecto, and that you feel comfortable to post what you do. Albert, the same goes for you. It's just so nice to hear things like that. Worchester...thanks for the information, DNB, Greg and Angelos. The reason I wanted to know about it was that someone gave me the address of the program director of WICN. He had offered to air any tape (as long as it was at least halfway decently produced, I'd imagine) sent to him. I was urged to send a tape of Suspended In Gaffa to him. I was curious if the signal of the station reached into Boston, that's all. I'm going through lots of mental blocks regarding SIG and have passed up offers to air it on other stations (including Kiri's :-(, sorry) because I haven't been sure I even wanted to continue with the Kansas City and Chicago versions. I've been on the verge of quitting so many times in the past few months I didn't think it was fair to commit to other stations. There are other reasons (including financial) I'm getting burned out on SiG. Anyway, I'm holding on by my fingertips. Maybe the renewed interest in alternative female vocals (even including talk of a new newsgroup...amazing...and I swear I have absolutely nothing to do with it) will get me out of my "so who cares, anyway?" funk. I mean, I know you all do, or you wouldn't be here in Ecto. It's just that...I don't know, there are so many resons, but one is the lack of feedback. I've done the Chicago show for well over a year and a half and in all that time, have only gotten a handful of phone calls. Less than 10, seriously. Plus I have no access to new music anymore (except for what you people send me-thanks! And Sue in Kansas City sends things-she's a honey) plus equipment weirdness is getting to me (to tape my Kansas City show I have to tape it first onto videocassette, then back to audiocassette, what a pain!) plus about 10 other reasons. Anyway, I know you all are really supportive of me, my "burnout" is something I have to work out for myself. I thought maybe WICN might provide a kick in the rear to get enthusiastic again. Especially if it were heard in Boston and Ectophiles in that area could tune in and give support. (May I throw in a dose of whiny self-pity? Here in Chicago most of my friends have *never* *even* *listened* to SiG. They "forget" or "don't like to listen to WZRD because it's only 100 Watt mono" I'm not talking about people like Mitch, who would listen, but can't receive the station, I'm talking about people I *know* can pick it up. Waaaaaa, waaaaaaa, whiiiiine, whiiiiine :-) Thank you for your indulgence) So anyway, that's why I asked where Worchester is. In a way, it would be a real shame if I did get enthusiastic again, cause I feel guilty enough that I've not taken Kiri up on her offer to air SiG. It was a wonderful opportunity that I totally blew because of my burnout. *sigh* Enough of that...Meredith, I did not take your comment wrong in any way. I've just never seen myself as an Earthmother type, so it threw me for a loop. I'm really about as Earthmotherish as a telephone book :-) but I do know it was a compliment and I thank you. We wnet to see the band Psychowelders last night and they were as great as ever. They're a Kansas City band, they've been together for years and are extremely tight and very good. The lead singer, Rhondda Francis- Frizzell (married to the Rev. Dwight Frizzell, for you Nurse With Wound fans and no, he's not *really* a Rev.) was our downstairs neighbor in Kansas City. I actually never cared much for the band when we lived in KC, they were a little too hard edged for me at the time. My tastes have changed enough to be able to appreciate them now and I *do*! I think they're great now. I mean, they always have been, and though I liked some of their songs, my ears just weren't attuned. It was great fun seeing the band again, and with a large group of transplanted Kansas Citians too, we were their cheering section. The only problem was that they opened, so their set was way too short. The second band was called Motion Patrol and they were pretty good....a complimentary double bill for the 'Welders, hard edged, melodic rock with interesting female vocals. Oh yeah, Big Hat also played but we left before they got on stage. I would have stayed but everyone else wanted to leave. Just about everyone I know likes Big Hat's music, but can't really stand most of the people in the band. I kinda feel the same way. The lead singer, Yvonne, and the violin player, Char-Malloy, are ice queens extrodinaire. On and off-stage, they act like high priestesses from Antarctica. Very icy, very snooty and *waaay* too big for their britches! The local joke is that the band is named Big Hat because they have Biiiiiiiig Heads :-). The keyboard player is really nice, and I've never had any interaction with the drummer. btw, thanks again woj, for the tape. (Pardon me while I go into whiny mode again. I'm on the air in Chicago, have had many interactions with the band, and am a member of their fan club mailing list...yet, I have to go to Albany, NY to get a tape of their new album from a fellow from New Jersey so I can play their music on my show. Detect any bitterness? Naaaaaaaah :-P ) SteveV writes: > Klaus and I have agreed that we wish all you concertgoers would > get over being stunned and get on with posting your concert > reports. One of these days...I haven't even started yet. The strangest thing happened to me last night. Our group met at an Indian restaurant before going to see the Psychowelders and it was the first time I'd seen or talked to any of these people since coming back from the East Coast. I was asked about my trip, urged to give details even, and I couldn't say anything more than, "it was great, I had a wonderful time." Luckily the hubub of the restaurant and the waiter coming and other people arriving saved me from having to think of anything else to say. I just couldn't. How could I explain? These people have no interest in Happy and are not on the net. I couldn't come up with the words to describe one of the most wonderful experiences of my life, literally a highlight of my 35 years. It was awkward, and I felt really stupid and I have no idea what these people thought of my short mumbles. *Long, deep, troubled sigh* Words, words are so *superficial*. Anyway, I too, am interested in seeing other reports...so I'll join with Klaus and SteveV in urging people to *write it down*. I just need to get busy and take my own advice. Party On, Wuppertal!!
