WAHHHHHH! in the first letter i made alot of references to my FIRST fuzzy blue drink of this evening...but i am now on my second one..so you missed all of my first hand reports on how the first warm fuzzy blue hit my system!! let me recap a bit... I have spent this afternoon reading/wading thru all of the digests since i left my home system..(we have just officially named our preferred drink.. "This Drink AInt Made For Cowards!!!")..anyway...I am very pleased to have gotten to hear how much everyone enjoyed themselves..and this brings me to an original point..I have not gotten many responses to my appeal for pictures of Ectonians to go into an album..I think the idea of circulating pictures of the concert is a GREAT idea..just as long as you send your favorite pix to me (a copy) to go into the ECTO album...send all of the best concert pix but dont forget to send in pix of YUORSELVES...cuy after all, you guys are the reason why ECTO is alive and kicking and we all deserve to be remmebered for our support and entusiasm and our love of Happy!! (feeling fuzzy warmness shoot thru my body..if my typing gets a little erratic please keep that in mind!!!! mew mew mew!!!!)(exclamation queen strikes again!) Kiri: it goes without saying that zyou are sending me copies of the Happy concerts..esp those ones you raved about..please???(beg!!!) please everyone excuse my tyops but this German keypad has the y and the z switched and the question mark is in a weird place..not to mention fuzzy blue- ness racing thru my veins!!!!! My friend and yours..none other than Mr Greg Footah Wonder Ecto God of the Picture and Surprise Fame should get many many MANY merows and footahs for his wonderful contributions to our party...just this morning Klaus raced downstairs to claim a FedEx package that was chock full of ECTO memorabilia and best of all...copies of the Philly show!!( MOST of it anyway)hehehe mew!! Now we have fuzzy blue drinks (recipe to be posted later), fuzzy blue music, and a placemat from Penn Towers that all of the band signed...as well as pix of the ECTONIANS who went to the concerts!! mew!! Details of our get together so far... Chip and Michelle arrived safely yesterday afternoon with me arriving later that night (thursday)..we had a wonderful german pizza and an even better chat- exchange of music!! Today we whiled away the morning hours climbing all over SchlossBurg Castle (redundant!! hehehe!!) where I reverted to childhood... Being a history major I get quite excited whenever I am let loose on castle grounds!!! We then picked up Albert and settled in for a relaxing lunch and watched Star Trek dubbed in German (Wesley Crushers voice amde me DIE laughing!!!) I have also spent the time reading the digests and drooling in envy..now that we have started in on determining the factor of fuzzy blueness in our drinks, i might start drooling for a different reason...(if only you could see my many backspaces you would laugh cuz my typing has REALLY deteriorated but i am just hiding it well!!!) Anyway.. Chip and I are scouting out the playground in the back and might go for a swing depending on the amount of fuzzy blueness thats in us..It has to be mentioned that it is illegal to be on the playground without a little person of 12 or under..but hey..if caught, I will just play dumb and blonde and American..it got me out of my $80 fine in Italy for riding a bus without a ticket..hehehe..but that wont be mentioned again will it now?? naaa!!!:)!!!!! More posts to follow shortly after this one!! This looks to be one interesting party..to say the LEAST!!! MEW MEW MEW!!! (merows from fellow partiers to follow!!) Chip here. MEEEERRRROOOOWWWWWW!!!! (Take it easy there Court!). She just finished her drink with a big GULP. This is Michelle. Hello everyone. I am just here. ;) Albert here. Claudia is using me as a guinie pig (where's my spelling checker ?) for testing her fuzzy blue drinks, so I'm a bit fuzzzzzzy... Me too!!(Court again..phew!!!) Hi here's fuzzy blue cooking Ma (or something) Hick (sorry) have to test all those drinks on myself first ...... Greg! Thank you Thank you Thank you !!!!!!!!!!! ((C) Court) !!!!!!!!!!!! We thus had the most wonderful breakfast. Ok, we'll be off to have lots of potatoes soon and lots of Sauerkraut tomorrow ... after all we're in Germany! Claudia 8) 8) 8) Who's next??? Meeeeee??? OK, so here's Klaus. I'd like to add, that we haven't listened to the tape of the Philly show yet. It's very hard, especially after reading all those wonderful reviews, but we try to keep it 'till tomorrow afternoon/night. We might listen to the WXPN interview later today, though. More later. Especially, when you read it only once a week, and inbetween it piles up. And now Vickie is back... :-) Today I've spent one working day, reading, luckily my chief is not here... If I stay with a working speed like this my employer might get curious some day. :-) Reading email only at work sometimes is a little dangerous. :-) That's the reason why I want to have changed my address to: . Jessica, can you care of that? Would those who have made up a mail alias for me, change it? The old ID is also valid but is used only seldom and might fade out in a while. Thank you. The advantage is also, I can read more often and by this be closer to new informations. Thank you, Klaus, the tape has arrived, and I listened twice to it, I liked it so far, but it has not shaken me to the bone or so. I have to listen to it a few times more and maybe it'll work on me. I had especially no time to concentrate on the lyrics, let's see what they will bring. If I wouldn't read your (all) news in here from time to time, I think, Klaus' HR-compilation would have wandered silently into my 1200-cd/cass/disk-archive not listened to very often (or given to an interested friend, like you proposed [good idea in general]). But with you all out there (not *knowing* none of you), I develop a special relationship to (now) *my* compilation. I'm not sure yet, whether I like her high voice more or her low. The high voice resembles KT a lot, so I liked her high voice on my first listening, because it was something I knew already (I can't say why listening to known things is a pleasure - only if one likes them, probably, otherwise one would be bored by known things), but the low range is also impressive. And she has quite an admirable range! HR is not really *my* music (neither is KT's), I prefer some darker things (y'know what the black dressed people favour some- times - me being a black dressed guy *myself* now&then, but not convinced to the last, I also like my self-painted T-Shirts :-)). On the walkman or after some stressy day, I like HR (and KT) as relaxing stuff more than those spheric Vollenweider sounds, etc. The latter are too artificial in my opinion. The shot of folk misses in them. After your enthusiastic reports, I'd like to see HR once, too. I have the feeling in a concert could be more energy than on the recordings (there may be energy too, *fans* will tell me, but that I haven't discovered yet). To see HR in Europe will have to wait some time, I guess. But who knows? Soon Happy will be a star and on her world tour she'll stop in Stuttgart... :-) [Well, see the smilie, I'm not sure, if I want her to become a star - in this respect, I offer my condolences to Tori Amos :-)]. Well, even when the music has not striked me yet, I *love* this mailing list. It's good fun to read. Usually I wouldn't post something like what you just read. You see, what good you've brought me to! Like one of my friends uses to say: Be productive! (instead of consumptive). Let a smile be your umbrella and keep the amusement going. But to whom do I write this. I don't have to tell you, that you're all very capable of making my day [is this positive? I mean it positive :-)]. For the pea counters: Thu, DEC-30-61, 43 (German shoe size). I wish you a nice day! - Karl, the Master of the Grass Root. PS: I hope my English is not to misunderstandable. When she would go to concerts, she longed to be on stage. (The flamboyant British rock band Queen was a favorite.) "My childhood and adolescence I spent living in my head... I was kind of crammed up into my little head pretending I was a rock star and pretending I was famous... "Everybody who wants to be famous, you start out when you're little, pretending, holding a hairbrush like it's a microphone in front of the mirror. But I did that every day of my life. So I basically lived the life that I'm living now _always_ - at least in my imagination." The music just comes to her. "It comes so easily I'm almost ashamed of it." Rhodes says. "It seems like there is no conception of a song; it seem like it just happens." For her first albums (to be released on CD in May), she would come to the studio in the evening and have four or five songs taped by 10 p.m. "I banged them out on my keyboard, my guitar. I didn't care about mis- takes - I just wanted to get the stuff down on tape," she says. Recording the impeccably produced _Warpaint_ (on Bartlett's Aural Gratification label), Rhodes was as unblocked, as unconflicted about her music as she was at the start. "I can go for months without composing anything and I really don't care, it doesn't bother me," she says. "And when I sit down to the keyboard, it never winds up being trash. I usually wind up finishing it as far as I can go, the whole piece. I'll work on it straight about five hours... That will be it, it will be in the can and ready to go." She and Bartlett do not collaborate on compositions, although they did early on. "I'm a tyrant," Rhodes says. "He's very respectful of me and what I want my music to sound like. But he's not a wimp. He'll fight me on things, and I might back down." In her song "In Hiding," Rhodes sings, "But music hides me so well/and reveals me, oh well." Her music has been a path to self discovery. "My main interest is in the human condition," she says. "And you have to really, really look at yourself inside and out and know yourself really well, or at least strive for that knowledge, before you can really understand why people do the things they do." That's why she watches Oprah Winfrey. And talks back to the TV. "I'll yell at the television," says Rhodes. "It's not Op's fault. The reason I torture myself with shows like this is, present me with a topic, any topic, I really don't care. Let me think about what these people have to say. Then I'll walk around the house thinking about it all day. Thinking up different points of view. That's how I know what I'm about. "And usually Kevin bears the brunt of it, because I'll try everything out on him and I won't stop until he says, 'Yes, Happy, you're right.' I don't really need him to listen. I just need to hear myself talk." With the slow-building success of _Warpaint_, Rhodes is looking to the future. She doubts she'll ever be a household name, doesn't really want to be. "Mass fame? I've seen what that is," she says, "and I don't fit the mold." Already, the singer, whose previous producers wanted to turn her into the next Madonna, has a group of hardcore fans who exchange information about her on a computer bulletin board. They micro-analyze her lyrics, discuss her three cats. Rhodes doesn't know how far this can go, or how she will react if she attains her dream of stardom. "All I know is, I consider myself to be extremely healthy and strong in the sense that, when i know when I can't deal with something any longer, I'll stop. And I'll take care of myself first. Because otherwise I'll wind up hurting myself and everybody else in the process... "I know I wanted this to happen. And I've been living it my entire life." ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- ======================================================================== From: katefans@chinet.chi.il.us (Chris n Vickie) Subject: Earthmother?
