Philadelphia/talked to promoter ======================================================================== From: golden@pixmap.seas.upenn.edu (Stephen "Jokey" Golden) Subject: Philly followup Date: Thu, 12 Mar 92 17:54:54 EST Well, Angelos gave me the concert phone line. I called, and got a machine which just told me that the concert was on Saturday (this at least tells us there is currently no 2nd concert). I left a message with my name and # asking when the doors open and how many tickets have been sold. I'll post again when I got a call back. -- -------------- "The more I think about sex, Stephen Golden the better it gets. golden@eniac.seas.upenn.edu Here we have a purpose of life..." Now let me ask yet another question. I am no expert in concert promotion (but you already knew that :-)), but still. How can Happy and Kevin afford to go through all these rehearsals, hire (?) a band, travel to Philly, move their equipment there, pay a concert promoter, pay for the use of the museum auditorium, etc. etc. without having more dates for concerts set? And without publicity!!! I would imagine it would have been more lucrative if they played more dates. And why haven't they set up some more dates? (ie. in Boston...) Maybe, I worry too much. This is only a concert. But it's a HAPPY concert!! :-) Angelos ======================================================================== Date: Thu, 12 Mar 92 21:08:41 CST From: (Jeff "Chip" Lueck) Subject: RE: Mitch writes: > Speaking whereof: Should anyone have serious worries that their >emergen-cy messages for Vickie will, in fact, explode Chip's account, feel >free tofunnel them through me; the sysadmins here are apparently more >sanguine about such things than I gather they are at his installation. >Send emergency mess-ages for her, nonemergency flames for me, and related >matter to U38373@uicvm(bitnet) or U38373@uicvm.uic.edu (internet). Actually, it ain't that bad. I got loads o' spae, but I'm beta testing a new mail program from home which routes all my mail via a 2400 baud modem to my PC. I was just afraid that loads of mail would take a 2400 bps modem forever to transfer. I don't remember which address I posted, but stuff for ectoma may be sent to me at jlueck@nuacvm.acns.nwu.edu (my "official" work address). So, now everyone has two places to send VickieMail. Speaking of Vickie, I miss her. :'( Let's hope she rejoins us real soon now. I'm looking forward to the European EctoParty coming up shortly now! I hope to meet a lot of you. Klaus, do we have an "RSVP" list yet? Court - I accidentally deleted the message with your sweet-tooth craving request from the States. Could you please describe the candy again to me so I can find it for you? Sorry. Woj - we have to get in touch about making the Albany Concert tape transfer for the Ecto Party. Talk to you all later. ======================================================================== Date: Fri, 13 Mar 1992 08:47:37 EST From: eperry@kean.ucs.mun.ca Subject: !!! HAPPY BIRTHDAY kIRi!! And since this will be my last day to access e-mail for over a week (Gee! I wonder why! :) :) ), happy birthdays to be to Barry Wong, Bob Brown (I hope to say it in person next Saturday), Geoff Carre, and Alan Sodoma. (I hope I didn't leave anyone out. If so, consider yourself happy birthday wished). I have neither noted nor heard any new Ectophiles recently, but in case some have joined us and lurk in the warm fuzzy blue shadows, a warm welcome to you all! If lurking, at least, pop up to say 'hello' (and give us your birthday!) The meeting place and time in Albany seems to be nailed down. How about Philadelphia? Where doesn't bother me much, and Steve G's suggestion sounds good, especially being so close. How about a time? I suggest as early as possible in order to get the good seats! 5pm may be a good time, providing we can get in and out of the eatery smoothly. No matter what, as I mentioned this is my last day of e-mail access before I leave. I look forward to meeting a good lot of you in Albany, an even bigger lot of you in Philadelphia, and the rest of you someday! 132 hours to go!! Any chance of us getting together with Happy for a while some time before she has to get ready for the show, or will she be too nervous/hyper? Or (ghod, I'm too old for this) after the show? As for meeting at QEII: (1) Does anyone know _when_ we'll be able to get tickets? (2) If QEII is seedy enough that it has a cage around Happy, it doesn't seem like it would be in a neighbourhood we want to be hanging around waiting for people. (3) Since people are coming from many different locations and will therefore arrive at different times, is there some place decent (safe) that we can hang out at while people arrive? -- David. ===========================lubkin@apollo.hp.com============================= ------- ======================================================================== From: lubkin@apollo.hp.com (David Lubkin) Date: Fri, 13 Mar 92 13:04:34 EST Subject: Re: Albany And what about afterwards? Hello!! I'll write this again when i get to work and am more clear :) Joe and I are gonna be staying overnight in philly, and doing more things on sunday - we'd like ot see the IMAX film at the science museum, and i want to go to the insect museum (hee!) and things like that - Who all will be around both saturday and sunday?? Does anyone want to know where we'll be staying so maybe we can all stay in the same place?? If lots of people want rooms, maybe joe can get us a special deal (he's a "travel specialist") otherwise maybe a bunch of people can share a room? (i tihnk it's not a cheap hotel, rooms about $100 i think, but split 4 ways that's not too bad) I'll write back with the name, etc. later! Who all is going to come to where i live (central NJ, exit 8a of the NJ TP) on the way down to philly, for the cause of consolidating cars? So far i know of: myself Joe Dave Steienr Barry Wong Simon Cooper Greg (whoever else is comgin with greg from boston) Francois Thibaud (dave, barry, simon, and francois will go in one car, and joe and i (and others staying in philly?) in another) Barry!! See that line above?:) there's definitley a space for you :) Told you it would work out :) I bet woj will stop by, it's on his way - meredith, you going withhim? He said: 1) Doors open at 6:45. 2) So far they have sold 400/780 tickets. He says that there is no way that there will be tickets left at the door. (But wouldn't any promoter say that). 3) They are not scheduling another show. I hope that answers all the questions that are out there about the Philly show. Ill be in Albs around 6p. IM going to try to scope out the place, and the surrounding neighborhood. The QE2 is right in downtown albany, fairly close to the govern(mental) buildings - so the area should be relatively safe. I doubt there will be any place to stay near QE2 that is inexpensive, but anywhere along the major routes there should be plenty of places to stay.... I'm coming from north of Boston. I will be dipping down off I-90 to pick up Meredith, and then we'll follow that straight into Albany. I'm not sure when we'll be arriving. I need to coordinate that with Mredith as soon as she gets back from sunning in Florida (this weekend, supposedly). Personally, I'd rather leave early and have a few extra hours with you guys before the show. At 1/3 century, I'm a little old to start partying afterwards at 1:30am (I see by my birthday list that most of you young'uns are a good decade younger than me, but at least I won't be the old man of the group -- Doug is two years older than me.) and at the moment I need to be back in Nashua by 3:15pm. So getting there around when you do would be fine with me. And either way, those of us who are going to crash in Albany afterwards can all stay at the same place (or, conceivably, in the same room, if we bring sleeping bags) and have breakfast together before shlepping home. I'm going to check AAA this weekend for a reasonable place we can get reservations at. (I tried getting a hotel once in Albany without reservations, and wound up paying a lot more than any of us wants to pay.)
