($12 with ticketmaster charge) seating is general admission, and i have my ticket in hand this very instant. anyone elsee who is interested in goign to this show, let me know (my valient attempt at getting people down south!). i haven't been to the venue yet, but i take it that it is small, since a beginning theatre troupe is currently putting their first ever production up there. so the concert should be damn good! Date: Mon, 29 Jun 92 12:15:29 WST Vickie writes: >Adding insult to injury, Warpaint is in a used record store (which means >someone didn't want it) and with the cover booklet gone. Boo Hoo! Don't worry, Vickie. I think it's more likely some poor unemployed guy with great musical taste saved for months to save enough money to splash out and buy an album by that artist he'd kept hearing on the "Suspended in Gaffa" show every week... once he'd got it, however he realised he'd forgotten he'd need a CD player to play it, and that the chances of getting a CD player were about as good as those of buying a new car to replace the clapped-out heap he has now, what with all the rust holes in the roof, bald tyres and a really noisy clutch, not to mention that horrible chunking noise when he went round corners. So he discussed it with a good friend of his, and together they approached another guy who was not really a friend but who had a job. He was an accountant. He had six CD players but no musical taste. Unfortunately, this guy was also a bit of a tight-ass, and wouldn't give our hero a tape to record Warpaint onto... as it was he barely allowed them to use his CD. However, our man asked if he could LOAN a tape instead, so he could replace it at the earliest opportunity. Grudgingly, the guy with the player agreed. Our hero now had a tape! Unfortunately, he realised that to raise the money to pay back the tape he was going to have to sell his CD... looking sadly at his only non-edible asset, the CD, he realised that he would have to hock it to get the money for the tape. However, he'd fallen in love with the picture of Happy on the front, and decided to pretend he'd lost the booklet. As luck would have it, the shop gave him $3 for it anyway, which was just enough to cover the tape (including the accumulated interest.) The guy is still completely broke, but because he has Warpaint on tape he worries less about it, because he can listen to her every night. The end. I'm not really sure that this has much to do with Happy, but I really felt that I had to give a dissenting opinion here: Batman Returns is a pretty awful movie. To say that the plot had some holes in it is a major understatement - this movie was totally devoid of plot. It also suffered from under-developed cardboard-cutout characters and pretty mediocre acting (which was surprising since there were some very good actors involved). It only saving graces were that it was pretty atmospheric and had some good photography and special effects. And, of course, it didn't have the main saving grace of the previous movie: namely Jack Nicholson as the Joker. > >The only movie I've seen in the last couple of years that tops BR was >the Fisher King. (And let's face it, directors don't get any better >than Terry Gilliam.) That was a good movie, though somewhat cliched and not as good as some of Gilliam's others. However as far as the best movies I've seen in the last couple of years go, I've seen many better. I suspect that movies are like music: the best ones are the non-mainstream ones which don't get churned out by the Hollywood movie-machine and don't get so much publicity. Having disagreed with everyone, I feel like I should put in a movie recomendation of my own. By far the best movie I've seen recently was Delicatessen. This was also a somewhat brooding and psychological movie, visually wonderful, frightening and extremely funny. A Very black comedy indeed. I'd highly recommend this movie to anyone who gets a chance to see it. -Anthony ======================================================================== Date: Mon, 29 Jun 92 13:41:36 EDT From: Chris Sampson Subject: re: EcTo #277 Chris Sampson here, Glad to see Greg is getting some friendly static about the use(s) of footah! :) Perhaps we can get him to 'fess up (unless we don't want to spoil the intrigue) as to the actual meaning by guessing (horribly...or not) what it might/must mean. WARNING: this has gotten me >into no end of interesting situations over the last year -- use with >adult supervision / children under 6 should use a half dosage ("foo! >foo!") :) :) Nice try Greg. It occured to me that the confusion over the word footah is unnecessary, since its origin is very well known and is in fact 30,000 years old. Need evidence? In a National Geographic documentary aired some time ago, I remember that archaeologists who were excavating in the Grand Canyon found a cave with drawings depicting tribal dances with distinctive up and down jumps, as hinted by Greg. These dances were the so-called foot-ah's, called so for the strain they cause to the feet when performed for long periods of time, as opposed to the foot-AAH's which were performed only by an elitistic clique who trained for these events. The documentary also stated that this is how the state of Utah got its name. How did the foo become a U? This has been the topic of many debates in the linguistic world. Some claim that it simply evolved and degenerated in the linguistic melange that followed the 'discovery' of America in the 15th century. For more details you are referred to Prince who is an expert in U's, 4's and 2's. 4U2 - footah, there is a connection. Think about it! :) How obvious indeed... :) Angelos ======================================================================== The ecto archives are on hardees.rutgers.edu in ~ftp/pub/hr.
