But we still don't know who coined 'ectophile'. I can't remember who did it, but since 'philos' means love, and is commonly added to group names (bibliophile, anglophile, etc.), it makes sense that we'd be ectophiles. Okay, let's get somewhat definitive. I just sifted through some of the early archives (what fun!) and the person to suggest the term "ectophiles" was Jorn Barger. Yes, *him*. He wrote pleasant e-mail once upon a time. That was on 8/19/91, and it was a suggested title for the 'zine that Jess hoped to put together. Another title bandied about was Ectoplasm (which some may recall as the first name of this list, after it stopped just being an alias of 7 or so people to whom Jess sent the first couple of messages...). For reasons I'm not sure of, Jorn's message, dated 8/19/91, does not appear in the Archives. Perhaps it was private mail directly to Jessica? But Jessica's response, I think on the 22nd, indicates the source of the term. It seemed to be Steve Fagg who first suggested that "ectophiles" should be, rather than a 'zine, the folks who populate ecto. So there you have it. Hi, I have two cents on two threads. When I was a kid I had a repeating dream. I'd be in the playground, with my friends, in the sandbox. Suddenly all the other kids would be gone, and night would suddenly arrive. From my sitting position, I'd drop to my back and the full moon would cut an arc through the sky till my head came to rest upon the sand. The moon would be directly above me, and a face appeared in it and said "Just stay like that and you'll be home..." The scene would then melt away and I'd be back in my crib. Sometimes I could see angels hovering around, other times monsters. I was wide awake. I had this dream maybe seven times at most, usually with angels but those monsters were scary, especially as I was awake. I now feel this is just wild serotonin, but read on... Twenty-some years pass and I am in Viet Nam. We are in the rear, safe, off duty. A shipment of acid has arrived from somewhere and we are partying well into the night. We are outdoors. Most of the effects are worn off by 2AM. A lot of music has been played, a lot of talking done. I decide to stretch out on the ground. As I lay back, the full moon cuts that same arc! Then a friend looked at me and laughed "Just stay like that and you'll be home in no time!" A rather intense flashback. Anyway, count me in with older males who can hear high frequencies. I'm still good to 15k, extra surprising since I was in a band. And as a TV kinda guy, the ringing sound is made by the flyback transformer, and they do tend to squeal louder without a signal present. Good ears! Finally, it looks doubtful that I'll make it to Joyous Lake. :( Seems like there's just too much work scheduled around that time. I am still planning on being at the Sarah concert this weekend, though, and hope to see some of you there! Are to meet anywhere? Email me if you'd like to. :) Third: Miranda Sex Garden just released a new album. Any opinions on it? I haven't been able to read here very closely lately so if there were some comments about it I probably missed them. I've listened to it once and can't say much more than that about it. It's going to be a similar experience to their last album for me. I'll have to listen to it a lot over a period of a few days and then the lights and bells will go off in my head and I'll "get it" and probably startgushing about how great they are again. :) Anyway, it's called _Fairytales of Slavery_ for those who might not know.
