Happyvangelizing Flame song A song I wrote ======================================================================== From: "Bradley N. Hutchinson" Subject: stuff Date: Thu, 20 Jan 94 12:10:03 EST Well, we're back from an overly long journey to West Virginia and I'm so very very very glad that I got When I was a Boy before we left. Until we got home last night, I thought Jill, the mother ofmy cat, was being nice about letting me listen to it over and over but the first thing she did last night was put it on our "big" stereo and listen to it! This a woman who said that she was bummed that I'd found yet another muscian she couldn't get into. Now for some strange stuff about using "Hounds of Love" as a weapon. The trip that became a trap--snowed in for three days unable to come home thank goddesses for house sitters and so on--was origionally to attend a funeral. A woman who I was involved with on and off for ten years who is still a close friend called to tell me her grandmother died. I'd lived with this woman and her grandmother in high school and college so was close to her and and and. Sorry--the point is that my "ex" asked that we spend some tim alone after the funeral because she had to talk. Jill is very understanding and didn't object even though this meant she was trapped with my parents for an evening! Anyway, it ended up with my ex playing Hounds of Love loudly while trying to convince me to leave my wife? Weird. I guess this was to take me back amake me miss our relationsip. I finally was able to put away my guilt (she was upset and shouldn't leave her alone etc) and got away. When I was a Boy on the car stereo was the perfect antidote and I got back to my parent's house feeling less than horrible. When we drove to the cemetery after the funeral (in a large ornate enormous paintings on the ceiling Roman Catholic cathedral), Jill said that the music (WIWAB sounded moree sacred to her than that stuff back in the church. I think she's right. I'm aso glad that my obsessive playing of it during the driving hasn't hurt it for her. Sorry so long. Just some stuff that I needed to write tto somewhere. brad -- bhutchin@vdoe386.vak12ed.edu There's some real people in the world and some who are pretend. --Robyn Hitchcock ======================================================================== Date: Thu, 20 Jan 1994 17:17:31 GMT From: imy@wcl-rs.bham.ac.uk (Ian Young) Subject: Re: Global Alert For All: Jesus is Coming Soon David Dixon writes: > 1881 Mother Shipton is supposed to have written: > The world to an end will come > In eighteen hundred and eighty-one. Yeah, but that's perfectly justifiable, as anyone who reads alt.folklore.computers would know. But I have a feeling that it might be a good idea to withdraw at least a month's worth of cash before Dec. 31st. Somehow I don't think a landlord or a mortgage company would like "the computer ate my account" as an excuse. :-) --Emily ======================================================================== From: Ethan_Straffin@next.com (Ethan Straffin) Date: Thu, 20 Jan 94 10:35:42 -0800 Subject: Jesus coming soon, film at 11 I just snatched the MiSTied version of the infamous "Global Alert" post off alt.tv.mst3k and will gladly send it to anyone who's interested! (At 375 lines, it's probably a bit long for the entire list, although I'd consider it if there's enough interest.) It's pretty funny, especially for those of us who need our mst3k fix now that we've lost access to Comedy Central. :( Duty calls, but I just wanted to say quickly how great it was to meet so many northern CA Ectophiles last night (and of course our ecto-goddess-lady Jessica). So I will: ItwasgreattomeetsomanynorthernCAEctophileslastnight. I hope we can make another, longer night of it soon! Date: Thu, 20 Jan 1994 10:38:32 -0800 (PST) Hello all, Does anyone know if something is wrong with rec.music.gaffa and love-hounds? I have not received the news group in about 10 days and have been unsuccessful in attempts to be added to the mailing list. I suspect this is a problem at my end since I haven't noticed grumblings from other Ectophiles about this. Their selection isn't the greatest but they have a good selection of used, and the owner is very friendly and appreciates good music (the store sells no rap or heavy metal, for instance). Not to say that some of that music isn't good, but its nice to be able to go into a music store that doesn't have a few teen-age kids blaring music I could hear by staying home and watching MTV. (Gee, am I getting old or what?) Anyway, I ended up talking to him, telling him about Happy Rhodes, and ordered Warpaint and Equipoise. It will be interesting to see if he gets them in as soon as he said. He said he can usually get them the next day and that he should have them by Friday (pretty good since I ordered them Wednesday night). Anyway, I'm skeptical, but if he gets them I will be duly impressed. He's real interested in hearing her--as he said, he usually tries to check out anyone who is compared to Kate Bush. While I was there I picked up used copies of Mazzy Star's So Tonight That I May See, Mark Isham's Tibet (both used) and an import copy of The Best of ALtered Images. Haven't got to listen to them all yet, but oh well. One of these days I'm going to have to get a CD player for work. Tthe best news was as I was driving home last night I finally heard the new Tori single. "God" is great--though definitely different than Little Earthquakes. Kind of funky, kind of Big Stripy Lie-ish, lots of strange noises going on, but I like it. The piano is almost inaudible-- like I said, definitely not Little Earthquakes. It was #6 on the Top 9 on 91X, the "alternative" station in town. Looking forward to getting the album next week. Thanks Vickie for contributing the Jane tapes to the tape tree. That's one I'll have to check out. And thanks Doug for your posting about record stores in the Fort. It brought back a lot of memories, though when I was there Sound Warehouse hadn't opened yet, and Rocky Mountain was still in big business. Is Walt still the owner of ABCD's? He's a real nice guy. I'm glad to hear they're still in business. I know I did my share to support them when they first opened. It seemed like I was in there at least weekly buying 3 or 4 at a pop. Seems strange that I had a lot more money for CDs when I was in college than I do now when I'm working. Oh well, I guess priorities change when you begin to have house and car payments. The Finest does have great deals. I bought the Hounds of Love marbleized vinyl album (my first Kate purchase) for $5.99 there when it first came out. Also picked up a ton of used records--which I now never listen to since I got into CDs. Oh well. Hope everyone recovers from the cold and the earthquakes. Here in San Diego I was shook awake by the earthquake but it wasn't very bad--just a little rumbling. In fact, I just woke up and said to myself, "Oh we're having an earthquake" and went back to sleep. I must becoming a real Californian (scary thought--I've lived here less than 3 years). The weather has been great here, as always, consistently about 70 degrees (Fahrenheit). But of course, having grown up in Colorado I miss the snow and cold--though hearing just how cold it is, I'm realizing I don't miss it that much. But there is something invigorating about going outside, taking a deep breath, and having your nostrils freeze together. I kind of miss that. Well, keep warm. Talk to you all later. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Jeff Hanson hanson@ast.saic.com ======================================================================== Date: Thu, 20 Jan 94 11:41:37 PST From: dixon@physics.berkeley.edu (David Dixon) Subject: Flame song Culled from rec.music.dementia: ======================================================================== From: spatula@titan.ucs.umass.edu (Lucky Seven Spatch) Subject: A song I wrote Date: 20 Jan 1994 02:55:44 -0500 Here's a song I wrote when I was bored. Enjoy. "The Flamer" To the tune of "The Boxer" by P. Simon and A. Garfunkel I am just a lurker tho my story's seldom told, I have squandered my commitments for a terminal and access, such are Usenetters All flames and jest, Still a man reads what he wants to read and killfiles the rest. When I started reading newsgroups I was no more than a boy In the company of newbies, in the quiet of the on-line helpfiles, running scared Confused as hell, Seeking out the stupid keystrokes all you gurus knew so well, Looking for alt.tv.saved-by-the-bell. CHORUS: Li li li (FLAME!) Li li li li li li li, Li li li (FLAME!) Li li li li li li li li li li li. (repetive lil' sucker ain't it?!) Asking frequently-asked questions, I come looking for a file But I get no answers, Just a come-on from the gang on alt.hi.are.you.cute I do declare There were times when I was so bored I read the posts up there (instrumental) (chorus) Now I'm sending this across the world, and costing the net hundreds (if not thousands) Of dollars, do I really want to be doing this? Doing this.... What the hell. In the carrel types a flamer and an idiot by his trade, And he carries the reminders of every piece of hate e-mail that he got Till he cries out, in his anger and his shame, "I am leaving, you all suck, " but we flame him just the same (chorus) (repeat chorus until you feel the song should be over.)
