They did not, in fact, do the Streisand medley. They did, however, perform several songs from an album currently in preparation. Did I mention that I won a T-shirt and a CD, and that when I went up to the stage to pick them up, Bitzi grabbed my head, pulled it into her chest (in that breach of space between the top of the cleavage and the shoulderbones) and rubbed it into her body? It was purely for a laugh from the audience of course, and caught me so much off-guard that I didn't even have a chance to "enjoy" it, but it was...different. I got them to sign my CD after the show. I know neither. John Prine should be considered a must-see. I'm a big fan of his, though I've never seen him live. :( He is a singer-songwriter somewhere in that huge gray area between pop and folk. He writes gently humorous human-scale songs, though his subjects became more serious and personal on his last album _The Missing Years_. (The original title was _Jesus: the Missing Years_, which is a song on the album, but apparently someone talked him out of it. (You can't blame his record company, since he owns it.)) He's been around for over 20 years now, but has only achieved cult status. As for the Persuasions, many, many moons ago, there was a male black a cappella group called the Persuations, say 1970-ish. They were very highly regarded (and equally highly ignored). I have no idea if this group is the same as the one you're asking about, though the description you have may help. Even if they are, I have no idea if they are still as good. Given the apparent quality of the rest of the show, it may be worth a peek if you like a cappella. Barry asked, I was just wondering who I should ask if I want to get a copy of the HGP tape? If you didn't contribute to the tape, all requests for HGP copies should go through my tape dubbing project. I'll announce when the HGP 92 tape is available. (I'm still waiting for it.) Well, actually yes! 29 years ago my father, a time traveler from the 21st century, arrived in Norfolk, VA. In his time Michael Bolton is recognized as the only truly great musical artist that the 20th century produced, and they worship icons of him and offer sacrifices of their young in his name. He traveled back to see the great one perform, but the time setting controls malfunctioned and he stopped long enough in 1963 Norfolk, VA to father me and name me after Michael Bolton. His (and all those others') songs from that era are well worth your while to look for. My guess is that the final release of the latest HGP awaits the rounding-out of the second half. I'm not certain where things stand with that, but based on Vickie's previous published statements on the subject, it may be worth contacting her to inquire if additional musical contributions are still wel- come. Now Happy is well on the way of joining that elite group (like I'm so sure she was sweating bullets waiting to hear my reaction *smile*). (The what, you ask? It seems to be a common ecto-disease wherein one's favorite musical artists are almost entirely female, e.g. Kate, Tori, Happy, Suzanne, Sarah, etc. I have the disease and love it.) I find that I look for different things in male and female music, if you want to separate it. My favorite female artists are mostly singer/songwriters: the aforementioned five plus Shawn Colvin, Enya, Sara Hickman, and a few others. My favorite male artists are often guitar-oriented, and have a decidedly odd spin on their lyrics: Robyn Hitchcock, REM, XTC, Peter Murphy, Paul Simon, Peter Gabriel, and a few others. However, I find that many of my favorite artists are in mixed groups. Throwing Muses, Sugarcubes, Dead Can Dance, Heart (except for the latest album--UGH!), Lush, and many others. The music produced by these groups has a unique mixture of female depth and male breadth, if you will.
