Re: ectoroni ======================================================================== Subject: r.m.m & r.m.e From: klaus@inphobos.w.open.de (Cosmic Vagabond) Date: Tue, 28 Jan 92 10:27:11 GMT Vickie, thanks for posting the rec.music.misc thread. I used to have access to the news, but our newsfeed at work is down for nearly a week now, and I don't want to get a newsfeed for a high volume group like r.m.m on my machine at home with just a 2400 baud modem and a packed hard disc. Re: rec.music.ecto Oh, two hearts are beating in my chest. I see the need for a newsgroup but I would not like to loose the warm blue fuzzyness which would happen if such a group would be created. Can't we have it all? A mailing list full of w.b.f. in all it's variations, and the newsgroup for the more everyday discussions and information. While we're "only" a mailing list we should keep an open eye on r.m.m and r.m.g and keep using our Happy-signatures to show who we are. But aren't we doing that all the time? I only have a problem with dropping my KaTe-signature for gaffa-postings in favour of my Happy-one. Maybe you (except Jessica :) know that feeling. Well, for a change I use it here. :) -------------------------------------------------------------------------- He thought he was gonna die. SNOW DAMMIT! > vickie@chinet.chi.il.us (Vickie Ann Mapes) takes me to task: > >> i'm not afraid to admit that i am somewhat turned off by the gushing > >> that goes on here, but i can deal with it since i like and know the > > >It makes a difference if you know the people involved? > > to me, yes. very much. it's kinda hokey, but the people that i chummed Yep, me too. And even when totally new people join, they either immediately seem great or they don't seem at all.. I do feel more comfortable on this list where i don't neccessarily *know* everyone but i do know who is on the list, and that the people who'll get my message in some way expressed some interest in doing so. > my posts here are ten times as long and ten times as often than to gaffa > and the fact that ecto is way cool bear this out. Hmmm!?? Dave Steiner (YES YOU DAVE!!!!!) (sorry, it's just that whenever i mention him loudly enough he suddenly reads a bunch of ecto posts:) was just record-shopping today and came back with the news that "Solace is out" to which i said "Yay!". Happy T news: they should be ready tomorrow, i'll let you know at some point in the afternoon if i've mailed any out.:) I've been listening to warpaint a lot again lately. (i'd been listening predominantly to the tapes for a while, and in high rotation in the cd player have been: the aforementioned solace, the mroe recent rainbrids, many different cocteau twins, and the shawn colvin "steady on". Has anyone mentioned that? i heard a song way back in oct i itnhk it was.? i liked it, and dave got me the cd, and i just love it.. I have a question. i've heard twice on the radio a song i really like, but i've no idea who it is.i heard it once on WRSU (they may have announced it but i usually can't interpret their announcing) and once (today) on WXPN (they announce well but i had to get out of the car. i tried waiting but it wasn't the end of the set). anyway the lyrics go something like (pardon if they're way off): if i said i will would you say you won't if i walked away and i let you know that i can't let you go and it don't heal clean oh.. *something* like that. i can hum the melody, but it won't help you, and it probably own't *really* Help if i type in the notes but i will if anyone asks. I _would_ like to know who that is. About newsgroup/mailing list - I guess ihave to agree that in time, even if we stay a mailing list we'll probably grow to such an extent that some of the "warm fuzzy blueness" may be lost. If it ever happens, and there's interst, we'll just start a "warmfuzzyblue" list. There's nothing wrong with that, if it does happen. I'm on one now, called Alliance. it's a non-exclusive group, but obviously you need to find out about it (and thus know someone on the list) and have the interest, to get on. the purpose of the list is simply to be an email forum for a bunch of people who like each other and care abotu each other and like having the medium and the group for discussion of wahtever it is we feel like discussing. Of *all* the lists i've ever been on, it's had the highest "S/N" ratio (ie, almost *no* "noise") and the warmest fuzziest feeling ever. (though i suppose i tihnk of alliance as red, rather than blue. or perhaps gold. or orange. that sort of color, but that's besides the point). Aaanyway , the point _is_, that i'd _rather_ we stay a warm fuzzy blue list who's main topic and tying point is happy rhodes and who's second main topic is any other music we find interesting, if it ever comes to pass that the traffic is so high and frivolous that the warm fuzziness is lost, then those of us who want the warm fuzzies will just have them elsewhere:) *but* who knows? maybe only people who like warm fuzzy blueness will want ot be on ecto, and it *won't* grow to un-intimate proportions. > woj > jessica (ultrablonde and overtired) || jessica || It is this that || Don't try to tell me there's no reason for || || lawrence || brings us || any moment in time, every memory of mine. || || koeppel || together. || Those years are lines of color on my face, || || dembski || --Kate || the past is warpaint. --Happy Rhodes || ======================================================================== To join ecto, please send electronic mail to the following address: ecto-request@athos.rutgers.edu To have your thoughts included in the next issue, send mail to: ecto@athos.rutgers.edu To subscribe to "Ecto", the printed fanzine, send $8 to: Ecto PO Box 11291 New Brunswick, NJ 08906 Ecto is issued 8 times/year, and will include photos and as much material from non-net members as we can get!
