WELCOME BACK MARTIN!!! WELCOME BACK MEREDITH!!! Great to have you back! Klaus, take care of yourself and get well soon. Klaus and Meredith, I'm glad you enjoyed the HGP tapes. Klaus, I'm so pleased that your package arrived so soon! Hopefully Steve Fagg and Martin won't be waiting much longer for theirs. Meredith, you need to send along another 100 minute tape to get Pt.2 of the HGP. And yes, I do wish I looked like you, except that we'd have to wear name tags so people could tell us apart :-) Thanks for all the compliments from everybody, I will talk about what I said (rather, shouldn't have said) in another post. I do appreciate the boost in confidence, though I never meant to imply that any Ectophile would turn and walk away from me because of how I look. More later... Klaus, Throwing Muses have a lot of videos, but only "Dizzy" has the band standing on risers, which is what I assumed you meant by the word "scaffolding." The video is very stark and it's all filmed on a set (as opposed to a "stage" like a live performance would be.) The risers they are standing on, plus the background, is covered in billowing fabric and colored lights play on the fabric. It's still possible it was a video from _The Real Ramona_ that you saw, because I haven't seen any videos from that album and don't know what they're like. Kiri, thank you for the EctoA review. I always enjoy your reviews and appreciate the fact that you do them. I can't wait for EctoB to appear! Vishal (sorry about messing your name up on the HGP, I wasn't sure and my brain hiccuped) I believe the Patti Smith song is a new one. I don't know anything aobut it though. I like it very much and I have never been a follower of hers. Not from dislike, just from one-of-these-days-I'll-buy- everything-and-really-get-to-know-this-artist-itis. Woj, I forgot to mention that I really enjoyed your Siberry-in-the-Snow story. I know how scary it is to drive in snowstorms and I had a mind movie going on as you were describing the situation. Eeeeerie! Well, I talked to Kevin and he said that there are no tickets yet for the QEII and it's doubtful that there will be. It looks like you'll just have to buy tickets at the door. Kevin has been trying to get the owner to sell advance tickets but she's not all that interested in doing so. Kevin promised that if she changed her mind and tickets are offered in advance he'll let us know. The door should be around $7.00 (that's a Kevinguess) and people going should get there early, because K said it was a very small club. GREAT NEWS-Kevin had just got back from the bank and they agreed to loan the money necessary for T-shirts to be sold in Philly *and* (Klaus, you asked about this) via mail order through AG. I'll keep up on when they are done and ready to be ordered. That's not all Kevin got money for. The bank is also lending the money TO GET THE 1st4 ON CD!!! So the plan is to "spend April mastering" and whatnot (getting artwork ready etc.) and that they should be available sometime in May. There will be 1000 of each CD made and they *have* to sell 250 sets (all 4) to cover the basic expenses and keep the bank happy. I told him I didn't think that would be a problem, they would probably do that within the first few months after release. They'll cost the same as the Warpaint CD but should all have bonus tracks, which makes them a bigger bargain. Lyrics should be included in the CD booklet, plus extra Happy artwork (that's up in the air though, they haven't finished working on them-all work there has stopped to concentrate on the Philly show) and it's "unlikely" that the covers of I & II will have the same artwork as the cassettes, though those paintings will be inside the CD booklet. btw, something I forgot to mention, Happy told me a while back that the painting on the cover of Vol.I is not on canvas anywhere. She painted that monster on the side of a motorcycle! Isn't that something? Somewhere in the country someone's riding a motorcycle with a Happy Rhodes original on it and if they ever sell the bike or decide to paint it themselves, the painting will be lost forever. Of course, it will be remembered through Happy's prints as long as Vol.I is still around. Still, this gas tank art is worth a lot (in cherishibility if not money) and the owner (who Happy's lost track of) doesn't even know it. I wouldn't mind having that gas tank (cleaned and dried, of course) sitting on my mantle!! Strange thought, that. Ticketmaster had sold 70 tickets as of the other day, so sales are going well, even before the promotion starts. There will be a T-shirt booth at the Philly show (not sure about Albany) and there will be flyers telling how to get the 1st4 when they're ready, and Kevin said he would include information about Ecto and the Ectozine. I can't wait to see these flyers! Warpaint is mentioned in last week's CMJ Report (I don't know the date, but I'll look at the station tonight for the issue) in the Retail Report for 3rd Street Jazz in Philly. Warpaint is in the Top 5 on KBBI, a station in Homer, Alaska, of all places! They report to CMJ so it should show up within a couple of weeks. Kevin said that this town doesn't even have a record store, that the one they had closed and now people have to drive over an hour to get to the nearest place to buy music. Kevin will be on national TV during the Olympics! Well, sort of. He's performing (didn't write it) music for a commercial that will air during the Speed Skating events. No details, other than that it's for Key Bank and it will air on ESPN. I didn't think about asking why ESPN, when the Olympics are on, what...(?)...NBC? He was joking about it and said that "the keyboards are the same as used on Warpaint" and thought that if he ever wanted to sell them, that would go in the advertisements ("The very same keyboards used on the Happy Rhodes album Warpaint!") and I told him he should check with Greg Bossert before he goes and sells them to anyone else. :-) I'll try to get more details about the commercials before they air. I would want to set a tape to run at 6 hour speed to try to get it. Imagine, fast forwarding to look for a *commercial*! That would be a first for us! That's all the news from Kevin. I have more to write but I am going to go record my Chicago show fro tonight. I don't know what I'll play yet so i have to get busy and decide. The post just came and I ran down to get it. Cathy, your tape for the Ecto SiG came, thanks. Angelos, your tapes for the HGP came, thank you too. And Jeff Burka, the tape for the second HGP tape, and the Betty tape came. Thanks and I'm sorry I didn't answer your e-mail right away. I did get the list of what's on the Betty tape and it's still sitting in my "to be answered" file on Chinet. I'm listening to the Betty tape right now and it sounds quite fun! Thanks for including the lyrics. Oh, there is a thread in rec.music.misc about "Women in Music-Indie" which I haven't had a chance to participate in yet. If anyone else wants to, you should, because it's a perfect intro to get some dialog about Happy in misc. This is a good time, because of the Philly (and other up-coming) show(s) and to get people interested in possibly checking out the CDs when they come. I may not be able to get in on the thread until the weekend. Chris is going to Kansas City for a week and I will be working on the Ecto SiG and other things while he's gone. Here's another thing that appeared in soc.women that I haven't answered yet, but it was quite a suprise to see.
