And I can't imagine anyone else on ecto caring either! (of course, I could be wrong, but so far the people here seem to be fairly well-adjusted mature beings :) mm that said I am off to sleep (yes, it's 12 noon). Joe just got out of surgery on his shoulder - he needed to be at the hospital at 6am this morning (and it's half hour away) and neither of us could sleep much last night.. |-) <-- me with eyes closed but happy. mm so much i want to say.. there've been a bunch of intersting posts lately.. i'll try to write something coherent later jessica ======================================================================== Date: Tue, 21 Jan 92 13:44:19 -0500 From: gb10@gte.com (Gregory Bossert) Subject: Re: Happy *LOVES* it, and other tidbits dNb> I huess my next question is: will someone be taping direct from the dNb> mixing board? This is the tape I'd love to hear. I would think this dNb> copy would be the one that Happy would like others to hear since it dNb> would not be subject (for the most part) to the flakiness of the dNb> halls' acoustics. mmm, well *actually* IM-never-so-HO (and with some experience to back this up) taping directly from the mixing board is often unsatisfactory, for several reasons: 1) the sound person sets mix, EQ and effects to sound good in the room; this can lead to odd imbalances in the direct sound. example: if the room or sound system is weak in the bass, the sound person will boost the bass at the mixing board -- the direct sound would then be bass-heavy. another example: if the room is very lively, echo-wise, the sound person will use less (or no) electronic ambience, leading to a very dry direct sound... 2) live recordings sound funny if the audience noise is *completely* missing -- the applause should be there at the very least! note that most live recordings do not tape off of the the "house" mixing board -- instead, they tap off of each microphone, add additional mics in the house, and make their own mix... what we could do is get a feed from the board and mix it with mics in the audience -- i have the equipment to do this. i'll present a proposal soon and we can pass it on to Happy... BTW, i am delighted and a bit awed that Happy is allowing us to tape the shows... it's wonderful that she trusts us and i think we should be very careful to be polite about things such as getting feeds and setting up mics. mm, this is going to be *great* :) ooftah! -greg -- gb10@gte.com -- "back to the trees" -- HR ======================================================================== Subject: two things... Date: Tue, 21 Jan 92 13:45:06 EST From: jeffy@lewhoosh.umd.edu All you non-philly folks who already have tickets...how have you been purchasing them? By phone? If so, what's the number. By mail? If so, is the $15.75 price total, or is there a service charge? Any help would be appreciated... My second item is to Vickie: have you been receiving the e-mail I've sent you recently? I've sent a few things and have heard nothing back from you, so I wanted to make sure my stuff was getting through. Jeff |Jeffrey C. Any help would Jeff> be appreciated... i got mine at a local record store that is also a ticketmaster affiliate. there was a $5 service charge -- the guy at the store (who knows me -- i buy a LOT of CDs ;) was gracefully embarassed by the exorbitant fee... i imagine that mail order would cost about as much -- the advantage of buying the tickets in a local store is getting the opportunity to talk about Happy with the store people :) Angelos and i were egging each other on to ask the newbury comics staff to play _warpaint_ (Angelos had his with him) but ticketmaster was closed that time and we felt silly (goodness knows i should be used to that ;) aaaaaaaanyway... Vickie, i can only agree with Jorn -- and i am certain the Goddess *does* love you :) the regularly scheduled "footah" will appear in my next post, to make room for a special "ack!" for someone who knows anyway... -greg -- gb10@gte.com -- "so many powerful people..." -- HR ======================================================================== Date: Tue, 21 Jan 92 16:00:15 PST From: barry@gnu.ai.mit.edu ======================================================================== Date: Tue, 21 Jan 92 16:04:58 PST From: barry@gnu.ai.mit.edu Hey vickie relax Like you said, if people like you now, is t shouldn't matter what you looklike. Anyways, besides, you shouldn't have to live up to anyone's expectations or perceptions about yourself. The only person you have to live up top is yourself, it doesn't matter what others believe how you should be. Besides, if people hav e got to know you this way, they've gotten to know the real you, without being influenced by the physical world. Anmdd if someone lets the physical change their view, well then I guess their not worthy of your friendship then. Besides vickie, your intellignetentnteresting and in, intelligent, have the most excellent taste in music, and have the most terrific personality, so you have nothing to worry aoubtbout. :) Barry P.S. You also have a lovely voice (I can tell from listenging to your shows) :-) but you already knew that already ======================================================================== Date: Tue, 21 Jan 92 13:38:14 -0800 From: Michael G Peskura Subject: Vickie Ann Mapes fan club Hey, Barry.
