I just wish they'd put *MORE* in Digi-paks. >Easier to handle, thinner packaging, AND THEY DON'T BREAK. Yeah, they don't break. But let's say you like the CD. So you play it a few times, say 50 times, maybe 100. The cardboard sleeve is now visibly worn. The hinged part where the cover attaches to the case is now frayed and the hinge is getting soft. In fact, a few more plays and the cover rips off. Damn! Let's see, what do I have to do to replace it? And how come the artwork doesn't look as good as it used to? Oh no! It's out of print! The CD is still good as new, but the cover is trashed! What do I do?!?! Yeah, they don't break. Bullsh*t. If you drop a digipak the right way so that the CD is perpendicular to the floor (inside the digipak) when it hits the floor, the weight of the CD (multiplied by the force caused by its velocity) can break the little teeth off the retaining ring in the center of the digipak. Bummer! Now the CD doesn't stay in the case! It falls out! What do I do!?!? F*ck*ng break a jewel case. See if I care. I can get them free from work. And even if I didn't I can buy them for 50 cents (or less in bulk) from my local. So maybe I break a few. So I have to replace the jewel case for my favourite collectible CD a few times. The artwork is PRESERVED. The CD is PROTECTED. The jewel case takes all the wear and tear, the bumps and grinds. It's DISPOSABLE. It's REPLACEABLE. I don't care HOW LONG that CD has been out of print. >the broken cover and almost looses the CD as he tries to retrieve the cover.> Sigh some more, go buy a new JEWEL CASE, and protect your CD and your CD artwork (the inserts). Complain to someone else. Now that I've got that out of my system... Perhaps I should take a chill pill. Wow. -- John P.S. Not a personal attack, mind you, just that I think digipaks and all their infernal relatives are inferior and more wasteful. Especially if all the parts of a jewel box were made out of the same RECYCLABLE plastic. Yes, CD cases wear out. You can replace (and theoretically recycle) the jewel box. You cannot replace the digipak. And the digipak uses nasty glues, heavier cardboard with glossy surfaces, and plastic. Why would you want to recycle the ARTWORK on your CD. I've been having similar experiences trying to find out when tickets go on sale for the April 1 show in Atlanta. I was told for the last week that they had no listing for *him.* Then, I pinned Ticketmaster down to Feb. 26. However, the local radio station sponsoring the concert has fliers out saying tickets go on sale tomorrow. So, I spoke to the theater where the concert is going to be and they said that there has been much confusion and that dates that they were given earlier this week kept getting pushed back every day. So, that's probably what happened in your situation. I would speculate tickets have not yet gone on sale for your show. In other Tori news, check out the latest _Details_ (March 1994 w/ Ethan Hawke on the cover) for a pretty good Tori article, with an odd "Tori Personal Pantheon," which includes, among others, Axl Rose, Liberace, Mary the Madonna, Neil Diamond, and k.d. lang. Well here it is: Add to the sins of Sinead O'Connor the fact that an army of pretentious, self-important, utterly humorless female singers like Amos are wasting plastic on albums. Amos was first marketed by her label as aheavy metal akact called Y Kant Tori Read? That didn't work, so with the advent of sensitive artistes like O'Connor, a shift in direction was quickly executed and Amos released 1991's Little Earthquakes to wow at least a handful of misguided critics. Apparently Amos was a child prodigy on piano, and certainly pounds that instrument with the sort of cute ponderousness you'd expect from a cocky 5-year old. Played in such a lame way, the piano is a hilariously lame instrument for a pop song. Amos' idea of song dynamics is to throw a clangy metal interlude into an otherwise placid ballad. There are umpteen songs on this album about violence against women. She wrote most of the album in a 150-year-old hacienda in New Mexico. Listen to any of it at your peril. The current information about the Tori Amos appearance in this area, is that it's now Sunday the 27th of March. Tickets go on sale March 4. That seems like a pretty short period for ticket sales, which worries me. Still 8:00 PM at Lissner audiTORIum. Let's see. On 2/7 it was 3/28, tickets on sale 2/11. On 2/12 it's 3/27, tickets on sale 3/4. ... I don't see a pattern yet, so we can predict the next set of numbers.... ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Mike Matthews, Mike_Matthews@sgate.com (NeXTmail accepted) SAFH, Haagi, and Doom addict all rolled into one ======================================================================== The ecto archives are on hardees.rutgers.edu in ~ftp/pub/hr.
