Alan "zimbabwe" Ezust picked up a copy of Loreena McKennitt's "The Visit" for me in canada -- Clannad fans (and i am certainly one) might note that ms. McKennitt plays harp, sings like (sometimes startlingly like) Maire ni Bhraonain, and features a mix of trad and modern instruments playing trad and original songs... good stuff, and i owe Alan one... Loreena McKennitt, _The Visit_, WEA CD75151 if you have read this far, then sit down, take a breather, and tell me what you think about this: my original concept of the ecto band project has proven technologically unfeasible, at least until i buy another $3K+ of hard'n'software, buuuuuut, jessica and i are still recording here at weeping willow studios ("where nature leaks in through every chink" -- rumours of indoor skating are unkind but not unlikely ;), SOOOOOOO, do people *mind* if we call ourselves the ecto band, or "ecto", most likely? mm, seeing as we are a long way from a CD or live show, i'm sure Happy won't. It's blue. It's fuzzy. It *actually tastes good*. It's: Hawaiian Punch Fruit-Juicy Blue!!! It tastes like normal red Hawaiian Punch, but for some reason they decided to make it blue. We came across it sitting directly under Ecto-Cooler on the shelf, and, well, we just couldn't resist. :) I wonder what would happen if you mixed it... *---------------------------------------------* | Meredith Tarr | | *** | | "Living in the gap between past and future" | | *** | | mtarr@eagle.wesleyan.edu | *---------------------------------------------* ======================================================================== Subject: many thanks... I've returned with the RUTH 12", some Pogues stuff (including _Rum, Sodomy, and the Lash_, which I've lusted after for years but have been unwilling to spend ~$25 on; I found a new copy for $18!), and Mouth Music. The New York trip was rather groovy. I now have a pretty good idea of how long it will take me to get to Philly (I hadn't driven north like that in years). Thanks to ecto, I'm not going to ever finish my thesis. You all have no idea how much this procrastination tool means to me. :) Re "La Femme Nikita": I was lucky enough to see the subtitled version- if they ever showed dubbed movies at Wesleyan the Film Series would get lynched, since foreign-language films are usually required weekend activity for most language classes. Apparently the translation on it wasn't too bad (I was sitting between two French majors at the time). If you want annoying, try watching American movies in Germany- they just don't believe in subtitling over there, and they have the same four people with horrible voices doing *all* the movies and TV shows. Monty Python dubbed into German is a truly painful experience. Don't do it. But I digress. It's a wonderful movie. I don't know about the reactions of the "queasy feminists" Greg mentioned- I live with a bunch of them and they loved it. I've forgotten her name, but she's an incredible actress. I wanna see it again! Vickie, I must add to the second position of my Ecto list "Poetic Justice"- I forgot it was on Ecto when I did the list, and have since come to worship that song. It's wonderful. I can't wait to hear it done live! If Happy is freaking out at the prospect of people who actually like her music and are active in supporting it being at her show in Albany, I seriously question her ability to handle it when she does get big and all sorts of fans turn out to see her. She'd better get used to it- but what better bunch to get used to it with than us? :) woj made off with the jug of Hawaiian Blue- he was still alive as of this morning, so I guess it's passed the first ecto test. It's easy to see where stuff served in blue containers wouldn't go over very well, thought- it really is, um, unsettling to look at. :} Vickie, do you and Ron Hill get your fingertips regenerated at the same clinic? :) :) :) *---------------------------------------------* | Meredith Tarr | | *** | | "Living in the gap between past and future" | | *** | | mtarr@eagle.wesleyan.edu | *---------------------------------------------* ======================================================================== From: kyrlidis@athena.mit.edu Subject: No of tix Date: Mon, 10 Feb 92 20:55:15 EST Hi, I just got my ticket for the Philly concert!
