I just luckily saw Sarah's "Good Enough" on "What's New on VH1" (Aug. 18)! This show airs Thursdays at 1pm EST and Saturdays at 8am EST for 1 hour. (Thanks to Mike Curry for pointing that out when Milla's video was on it.) I don't think VH1 is delayed for the west, at least it isn't here. The videos and their order may be different on Saturday but I'd be very surprised if "Good Enough" wasn't played on the -=>Sat 8am EST<=- show. I haven't seen Sarah on "VH1 Inside Music" but haven't been looking since I just now read about it (thanks Meredith :). It's frustrating to get "Inside Music" but it seems to air once an hour between 40-55 minutes past the hour (like 8:45, 9:50, 10:40 etc). Each one has one artist (last one was Indigo Girls) and they have many different ones so it may take a while. Also, sometimes it's "VH1 Inside Fashion" instead. :P All this comes from trying to get Milla's spot. VH1 melts your brain pretty fast so hopefully this will help prevent some melt downs. So, the Sarah video... It starts out with a shot of a country/farm house. It's a collage of inter/over-mixed shots of Sarah, every band member, and shots of a family in turmoil as well as a friend of the young daughter, and various shots of the house. Every single member of the current touring band is shown a few times briefly, and of course Sarah frequently. I think all those shots are B&W and the shots of the family are in color. I've only seen it twice but I believe it's about a girl and her mother with a drunk/violent father who "has never been good to" them. The girl gets lost in their fights but has a good friend or sister who shows her she is "so much more than good enough". Of course I really should watch it more before making such interpretations but after looking at the lyrics it adds a whole new meaning to them. I need to read the thread on FTE about "Good Enough" still so I don't know if it has been looked at that way. Oh, of course "bullshit" is just "bull"... appropriate sig attached... ;) /-\ |_ |= >< Alex R. Gibbs arg@kilimanjaro.opt-sci.arizona.edu "Freedom. You know, writers have no freedom on TV. Oh well, it'll probably grow on me...and the > B-sides, as folks here have already mentioned, are well worth the cost of the > single. I agree about "Fire on Babylon." I was so anxious to hear the new Sinead single, and "FoB" was just a let-down. There is nothing particularly wrong with it, but it just sort of meanders along with no direction really. The covers are better, but the arrangements are not very thrilling on those either. Sinead's voice, however, sounds better than ever on all the songs, even if it is barely audible at the beginning of "House of the Rising Sun." Having said all that, I'm still hopeful about the album, despite my lukewarm reaction to the single. I also tie it to some of her earlier work on Touch and maybe Solace but will keep my more speculative and personal meanings private. A child runs away from conflict to play with an imaginary friend or A child runs away, towards the edge of the earth (sunset), to escape, and finds no edge, only the comforting joy of mother nature, Titania and her fairies, amidst the thorns. (ch angel in G cod?) Or perhaps the child in the grownup runs away... years later due to stimulation of the blocked or buried memories. But we cannot run away for ever, we must face our fear, let out those blocked emotions and effect change. "all the fear has left me now..." 'You're the Guy I Want to Share My Money With' was originally a 2-disk LP set. It has 25 minutes of Laurie Anderson. The tracks are 'Dr. Miller', 'It Was Up In The Mountains (read by Paul from L.A.)', 'Drums', 'Closed Circuits','Born, Never Asked', all on the first side of the first LP, and (separately on the second LP reverse side) 'For Electronic Dogs', a bit more 'Drums', and 'Structuralist Film Making'. It also has 35 minutes of William S. Burroughs reading from various of his works (not bad, but not music), and about 24 minutes of John Giorno reading poetry, which is extremely repetitious and unfortunately IMHO not very listenable. The original LPs have 3 normal sides, then the reverse of the second LP is itself '3-sided'--you get either Laurie, WSB, or JG at random, depending on where the needle is set down. If you want a complete LA collection, you need it, but it is mostly a repeat of things that are on United States Live (except maybe Dr. Miller and For Electronic Dogs--I don't recall those). It is certainly more fun to have the LP version, for the 3-sided feature. I suspect that the LP may no longer be available, though, and may even be a collector's item. Cheers, Ross ------ Ross A. I was disappointed to read some recent postings by people who didn't care for "Fire On Babylon." My opinion is vastly different. I think it's one of the best things Sinead's done in quite some time. I don't agree that it "meanders along with no direction." I think it builds rather successfully to an emotional high. Maybe you didn't listen to it loudly enough? ;-) Anyway, I was, at first, disappointed with the other three songs on the single ("I Believe In You," "House Of The Rising Sun" and "The Streets Of London"). This initial disappointment stemmed from the similarity between the three. But after listening to them again (and again), I learned what makes them each unique. I think this is some of Sinead's best work. Haven't listened to either too much, but they sound pretty good. For any Boston area ecto-philes (or any others who are interested) find the new CD by Laurie Sargeant! Laurie used to front a band called Face to Face. In the past few years, she has played the local club circuit, collecting a devoted following. Her 1st solo CD, is called "Something with the moon" and it is terrific. It really catches her live sound, a problem she struggled with on her first release, a tape, that sounded a little washed out. Laurie's songs are your basic rock/folk/country style, and she has a gorgeous voice. I highly reccommend it! Hey, another interesting release is the soundtrack to a movie called Zero Patience. The movie is a musical about A.I.D.S., with Patient Zero, the French Canadian flight attendant that the media accused of spreading A.I.D.S. throughout North America, as the protaganist, and Sir Richard Burton, perpetually youthful due to inadvertant contact with the Fountain of youth, as the antagonist and eventual romantic partner! Sounds wild and zany, and it is, but important and full of great music. John Switzer (Jane fans) is involved, and an original member of Martha & the muffins wrote much of the music (I think). The movie is terrific, and the soundtrack is great too, if you like musicals. Can't wait for BTC! Hi! I don't know about lyrics, but they have a total of three albums. The first one is _Helleborine_, the second _Century Flower_ and the third _Humroot_. They also have a promo sampler called _Waking Up_ that takes selections from the discs, and is actually my favourite of theirs.
