Copperman Subject: Better than food Rather than waste my lunch hour shoveling energy providing food into me (but then, how come I always feel so sleepy after lunch) I spent my time used CD shopping instead. The folks at the store wouldn't let me use two $1 off up to four CD coupons, which was in some ways nice, the way they look after us poor CD addicts and try to impose control when we can't seem to do it ourselves. So, my four today: Tori Amos - Crucify (Insidiously marketed as an album rather than a single) Cocteau Twins - Garlands Sting - Ten Summoner's Days Teenage Fanclub - A Catholic Education Sadly, since I couldn't get 8 (or ate, since it was lunchtime) I had to put back Bjork and Lisa Germano and Juliana Hatfield and all those others I didn't pick up. Hi ecto, I am back from a rather exhausting vacation that wasn't quite what I had in mind when I left Boston almost a month ago, since a rather unfortunate thing happened to Efi which kept her in a hospital and in bed for most of my stay in Athens... :( Anyway I am back with 67 l-h and ecto digests to read... Before I do that I will provide some info that is hot off the press (for me). In 'Der Spieon the plane I read an article about D'Cuckoo and was totally taken by surprise. I guess Oakland is getting hotter musically by the hour awaiting my arrival. More on that after I recover. It;s good to be back. Please use this account for any personal e-mail. I shall have to remember that one when I go to the monthly meeting of the local American Planning Association section on Friday. Rose on Ashland says they should be getting in some copies of _Rhodes Songs_, albeit too late to benefit from the storewide sale. This isn't as much a feat of Happyvangelism on my part as it seems, however, inasmuch as Vickie knows the manager at this particular branch. If anything, it's more a feat of Happyvan- gelism on her part. Speaking of whose latest saga in these pages: It must have been a most W A Y C O O L video store, to succeed in hiring Vickie away from such a source of high adventure for fun and profit as she makes the Driveaway thing out to be. Than again, a lot of employers have been known to succeed that way simply by paying more. Ah, mammon :-). Vickie closes out that discourse thusly: >I just had to pass on that bit of moma pride :-) Between that and ecto's tri-state area colony passing on that bit of _met_ pride to Chris, looks like the names, if not the actualities, of both the major NYC art museums are covered. (Fans of NYC art museums may actually get this obscure joke; all others are on their own :-). ) WRT Aaron Ridley's contribution to the avocado/eldorado thread: It's reassur- ing to find out that somebody has written something more obscure than the immediate previous paragraph of this posting. If I know my Caddy's, the Eldorado was much longer than 5'4 :-), even if you don't count the pushup-bra bumpers :-('. Even as this is being written, Angelos' announcement of his return to these shores has come in. Welcome back, and may he and Efi each recover smoothly. William Gibson is going to be reading at the Olssens on Dupont Circle, August 25. I don't remember what time, but if your interested, you should call and make sure I even got the date right. The store doesn't have all that much room in it, and when I've seen authors there in the past, it's mostly been people squashed in between the bookshelves, so if anyone goes, they might have to go a bit early. Reports appreciated if anyone attends. neal ======================================================================== Date: Wed, 18 Aug 93 23:18:57 EDT From: WretchAwry Subject: ** Message from HAPPY ** Faxed Wednesday, August 18, 1993 *********************************************************************** Someone wipe the smile off of my face........it's beginning to hurt. It truly *is* the year of the Goddess! Next year's "Favorite's" list will be so much fun! As y'all might have seen, I spoke to Happy (and Kevin) tonight for a briefly amount of time. Happy is *DELIGHTED* with the kite, but hasn't had a chance to fly it yet because it's been raining in Ville de Bears. I did tell her that we want a photo of her with the kite :-) The Aural Gratification fax sheet that Happy sent was a *hoot*! At the top it's got all the normal things such things have (Fax transmittal memo...To...From...) then Happy wrote "Thanks Vickie!, Thanks Chris!" then there's the official AG logo that Happy designed, then it says "Aural Gratification" then under that it says: "HAPPY RHODES / Omnipotent Ruler Of The Universe" :-) (I am not making this up!) ScottZ, I did ask Kevin how many of his albums have sold. Kevin has 9 albums, and has sold about 2000 cassettes total. I hope that's what you wanted to know. _Rhodes Songs_ is due from the CD plant tomorrow or the next day and they'll be immediately shipping out to distributors. Kevin said that they've pre-sold about 5000 copies to distributors so far. Hopefully they'll be in stores (serviced by an AG dist.) by the end of next week. He said he hasn't gotten any mail orders for RS yet (that he remembered). He also said that they've got a *total* of about 130 HR5s left. "In the world" as he put it, so there are still some available to Ectophiles who want them. We didn't discuss non-Ectophiles ordering them because I'm still waiting for all the summerphiles to come back. Baudoin from France, *please* write me, I have a message for you from Kevin.
