It all fills me with twinges of regret that I stupidly let my membership in the Internationa l Network for Social Network Analysis lapse a couple of years ago :-). I grep'd Herr Grepel's post, and found this: >> I also liked Radio Welle ("Welle" = Wave). Cool name. :) > >Cool! Never heard of that one. He's never heard of Deutsche Welle, one of the major radio networks over at his end? Kafkaesque :-). > The translation of the phrase > > Si Villi Si Ergo Fortibus Es En Ero And here I was, thinking it came out to something like "therefore, the strength of digestion is in sex." (The physiologically sophisticated will recall that the villi are structures in the small intestine through which food is absorbed. ) It isn't the first Latin motto that hasn't made sense to me, when translated very loosely :-). WRT Steve Fagg's commentary on the Ectoform project: perhaps Jeff should post an honor roll of those who have become underwriters already, with the implicit offer of similar recognition for those who join the fold. Hey, it works for all manner of other nonprofits, it may work here :-). WRT MJM's commentary on Stuart Rosenberg: It will, alas, not be feasible for me to go to Schuba's tomorrow night, but I have boundless faith in Mike's ability to sell him on the virtues of making WBEZ Happy's radio home in this town (which it already is, _ipso facto_, owing to the exposure _Echoes_ has given her to an audience of people like me who have hopelessly deranged sleep- ing habits). Ironically, my radio received his entire show yesterday even as I snoozed, a few feet away, through every last minute thereof. Oh well. And, of course, happy birthday+1 to Vickie, happy birthday+0 to Madonna, and happy deathday+16 (or something) to Elvis. _Cogito Eggo Sum_. _Nullius Filii Litigium_. I spoke to Susanne White today about Happy's European distribution as well as general distributive help that we ectophiles can provide. Albert, Twinbrook is no longer the AG distributor. Basically, they do not have one in Europe. In order for them to obtain distribution, they must have demand. Simply go to your record store and ask about Happy. If they don't know about her, tell them. However, if you want to get Rhodes Songs relatively soon, Susanne suggests you order it direct from AG. But go to the stores anyway and let them know there are people out there who want music by this artist! As for the programmes, Susanne took down the address and will be looking into it. It is tough enough to get Happy playing anywhere in this country, let alone Europe, but we shall see what transpires. Attention North America! With the release of Rhodes songs immanent, Susanne has begged us all to call our local stations from the list I recently posted and request Ashes To Ashes. It is important to build momentum for the album, and she is really hoping we can make a difference! Please, if any of you live near any of those station, Please call and request Happy!!! The rest of the list, those not near a station playing Happy, please go to your recorded music store and ask about the new album. If they carry Happy, tell them you heard she has a new album coming out. If they don't carry Happy, tell them about her and that she has a record coming out! Susanne feels this is very important for us to do! Those of us fortunate to live near a radio station that is playing Happy's music are also welcome to visit their local recorded music emporiums and put on the pressure to get them to order the album! If we are indeed Happy's Army, now is the time to mobilize. Susanne feels that we can make a difference. I implore each of you to do your part to make Happy's latest project her most successful yet! Thank you for your time. I promise to pester XPN and the local Tower store! Sgt. Mitch wonders about Uli (don't we all ;): }He's never heard of Deutsche Welle, one of the major radio }networks over at his end? Kafkaesque :-). Nein, nein, nein- *Radio* Welle. It's another satellite radio network, I'm not sure where it's out of. I used to see ads for it all over the U-Bahn, but not having cable radio or a satellite dish for my box (hell, I never paid the stupid fees, so I was operating my radio illegally as it was ;) I was never able to listen. I just liked the name. }And here I was, thinking it came out to something like }"therefore, the strength of digestion is in sex." Ha!!! Actually, the version of this erudite poem I learned in school went like this: Si bile, si bile, si ergo Tuantibus es in ero Verile, verile, demis trux Sevats inem, causan dux We must have been learning a different dialect up there in Maine. :) woj wonders about Harmonia Mundi: }does this have anything to do with the classical music catalog }of the same name? I don't know about that, but Harmonia Mundi is more than just a catalog- it's a label. One of the foremost sources of Medieval and ancient (by this I mean pre-Medieval, not "ancient" in the sense of Bach as performed by the likes of the Academy of Ancient Music, a name I can never hear without bursting into incredulous laughter), as a matter of fact. The catalog they put out is like the Rounder catalog or the Ryko catalog, offering what they've put out and what they've put out only. (And I want almost everything they've put out. It's painful.) }boek@mullian.ee.mu.oz.au (Christopher Boek) sez: }>Where would i be without you people :), } }newark airport, man. eeew. Fate worse than death itself. For those of you with the Ryuchi Sakamoto album "Heartbeat", have a listen to the title track (the second version) and "Cloud#9" to get a nice Chavez surprise, complete with David Sylvian. Speaking of whom, his new album with Robert Fripp features Ingrid's vocals on "Darshan". Still searching for Ingrid and can put up with a Prince movie? Then rent "Graffiti Bridge", a trukey of a movie whose sole recommendation is that Ms Chavez is in the cast, playing someone not unlike herself! The film soundtrack contains early versions of some of the songs from her album. Warner Music here tell me they believe she's been dropped by Paisley Park, but I wouldn't be too surprised to find her recording for Virgin sooner or later. Just a guess. Watch for Sylvian guest appearances. If you can find Ingrid's album, especially if you're lucky enough to find it for $3 like woj did, then grab it. I like it a lot, especially the Koppelman- written material. Poets 3, Purple People 0.
