She will open for Mike Oldfield, of Tubular Bells fame, who's supposedly launching a new album. I believe the venue is somewhere in Great Britain. She will play in the Real World Music festival, also in Great Britain. She still looks the same as before, and writes music in exactly the same style as before. Ohhhhh well. Buy the album anyway when it comes out. It's still far above average in quality, of course. In other words, you won't have to buy it just for completeness, since you'll definitely enjoy a few of the songs. ======================================================================== Date: 10 Aug 92 14:58:13 EDT From: MJM Subject: tori's name(s) john zimmer: > Assuming this refers to Tori, her given name was Myra Ellen > (according to the Vogue article). (Are you *sure* it was the 11th? I mean, it couldn't have been the 8th or the 16th and the birth certificate is wrong? :-) :-) ) FUZZY BLUE WARM WELCOMES to all the new Ectophiles! Feel free to lurk or post, whichever makes you most comfortable. If you want to post, please tell us how you heard about Happy, what, where and when you first heard her music and what you thought about it. If you haven't yet heard her music, there is a sampler tape available from Doug Burks, but he's on vacation, so you'll have to wait. I know that questions have been piling up, and I have been meaning to call Happy and get some answers, but the last couple of times I tried, the answering machine has been on (I sang Happy Birthday to her machine on Sunday) and I don't want them to have to pay to call me just so I can ask questions. I'll keep trying. Their schedule is probably horrendous right about now, so catching either Happy or Kevin at home will be a trick. I did ask Happy once what the "back to the trees" reference was and she just said that it was from her childhood. No elaboration. Not much help, sorry! I never got the impression that H&K were vegetarians, but I've never asked them outright. I know that they've had at least 6000 Warpaints pressed, I'll try to find out a more exact number. SO, I have questions about: How many Warpaints and 1st 4s have been sold. Have they contacted Nettwerk? "Back to the trees...?" Are they vegetarians? What's the deal with the "animal" line in LftC? What's this with the '84-'87 dates on the Ecto CD. Thought you did it all in 2 weeks? Are there any more that I may have missed or forgotten about? E-mail or post and I'll include them. Quick non-Happy items: I can verify that the Psychowelder's T-shirts are *really* nice! They had them at the show. The "psychic hand" T is *the* *absolute* *most* *wonderful* T-shirt ever made by/for any band, anywhere, anytime! If there is enough demand for more, Rhondda might make up another batch (that's my own opinion, not from anything that Rhondda said to me) so, once woj gets his and confirms (or at least, supports :-)) my above statement, maybe she'll be deluged with pleas for that one. Ours are black on black, and we *love* them! The Inertia Ts are nice consolation, if the psychic hand Ts are gone forever. Rhondda designs everything herself. The "Orphic Egg" cassette that woj mentioned has 6 songs on it... 1) Crushed 2) Marc, a Dulcimer and Dusk (featuring Gerald Trimble on dulcimer) 3) Chemical Wedding (a different version from _Rose, Key & Glove_) 4) Snakes and Ladders (the "witch-revenge" song woj quoted) 5) Perpetual Motion 6) Arcosanti-by-the-Sea (my personal *all-time* favorite Psychowelder's song) If you have heard Psychowelders, and like them, this tape is a Good Thing to have. It is called "Whatizit," and it has variously been likened to a guppy, a termite, a tadpole, and a bug with two heads. Some olympic people have taken to calling it "Bubba the Blue Slug." It is actually a bit of computer- generated animation. Yesterday's issue of _USA Today_, as I recall, featured a poll on whether readers like this icon or not. By a fortuitous coincidence, the top right corner of the front page touted an article inside on Ren and Stimpy. When I saw this on the stands, I got to thinking that Ren and Stimpy would be an ideal mascot for the next olympics--sort of a metaphor for Charles Barkley's treatmen t of the Angolan player, and possibly for Bela Karolyi's treatment of his chronically prepubescent gymnasts. It dawned on me that this would be an ideal outlet for Happy's music--perhaps "Rainkeeper" as background music for the weather. Anyone else got other ideas? Anyone have ideas who it was? That's one of my favorite _NE_ episodes, and the closing music is part of the reason; it fits so beautifully into the themes of the show. The song in question is "Caribbean Blue" by Enya from her _Shepherd Moons_ disc. To my mind, the best track on the album, which was a bit disappointing after her first two. My sister informed me tonight that the track was also used on _General Hospital_ today, and that two-ish weeks ago, "Don't Give Up" was used on _One Life to Live_, with the KaTe portion far more prominent than the Peter Gabriel portion. As I wrote here a while ago: Thanks to Jessica's advance warning, I picked up the CD single of Tori's "Crucify" at the weekend. The title track has been re-mixed by Ross Cullum and Ian Stanley is credited with "additional production" (Who they? - Ed.), but it doesn't sound radically different from the "Little Earthquakes" version (which is also on the single). The main interest is in the two other tracks, "Here, in my head" and "Mary", which are not from the album. I presume that it's the same re-mix of "Crucify" as you have. I had some mail from Justin Bur (justin@crim.ca) who filled me in on the state of Tori's "Little Earthquakes" era single releases. He said in summary: - Me and a Gun/Silent All These Years - China - Winter (the one I've just bought) - Winter "limited edition", with three cover versions - Crucify (the version I have) - Crucify "limited edition", in a fancy box, with live tracks (presumably the one you have) Perhaps in years to come Tori will be putting out a boxed set of all her albums (I wonder if it would include "Y Kant Tori Read"?) with two additional CDs of all the hard to comeby tracks from her singles.
