I don't really know who is at PO Box 11291 to pick up the tapes, so I can't email direct. Since Happy's birthday is this coming weekend, I was expecting that maybe some acknowledgement of tapes, messages and tracks, etc would have been seen on the mailing list by now???? It would be nice to know if my tapes were received at their destination, even if the project had been cancelled. Sorry to be a bit of a bore on the list, but any news of the HGP (or rather HBP) seems to have dissapeared down a black hole, and there did seem to be somewhat of a panic a week or so before tapes etc were due for a cut off,(July 1st). Anyway I hope it is all in hand, and news will be forthcoming shortly. The lawn seating *does* include the sides (in fact, the side is better than the reserved seats at the back), but they go fast. For the extra-frugal, you can always sit outside in the parking lot and hear the band. :^) The biggest problem I have with the Mann is that the sound is always terrible. :-( -- ==================================================================== Bill Pringle wrp@ivy.unisys.com -OR- ...!uunet!mimsy!widener!gvls1!wrp%ivy ======================================================================== Date: Sun, 9 Aug 92 7:17:00 EDT From: Vickie Mapes Subject: Today's HER birthday friends... Yesterday's _Sun-Times_ (which I hadn't read yet when I posted the query about him) had a story about him. He's an aborigine, whom the government pulled out of his community as a child to live with white foster parents, part of the forc ed assimilation policy then in effect. The long-term effects of all this on him were deleterious; he struggled with unemployment and/or alcoholism for years. These themes now figure prominently in his songs. His wife is a member of his band. He has an album out in the U.S., whose title I have forgotten but which the newspaper article lists. For his next album, he plans to move back toward traditional Aborigine musical forms. Yesterday's _Tribune_ carried a story about Emerson, Lake and Palmer (who have an album out for the first time in years, having only gotten back together recently after having broken up long ago, but I don't recall whether they're performing locally). Toward the end, one of them states that their music was like that of Genesis in the good old days, rather than now when their market is teenage girls. (All this is, of course, my paraphrase). How the mighty can fall, or be alleged to. Mitch ======================================================================== Subject: xenox is down Date: Mon, 10 Aug 92 09:55:21 N From: Klaus Kluge I'm sorry to say, that Xenox has been down since Friday (a couple of kernel panics and now it doesn't boot anymore), so I couldn't connect to the net and haven't read anything since Thursday. What is making this worse, is that I got my new highspeed modem on Saturday, and I can't test it now. :( As this might be the last week where I will have access to the net before we leave for the States (I'll have to work in Lyon starting next week, probably until our holiday), I'd like to ask you to send all email to kkluge@Materna.DE again. If you've send something important to us the last days, please remail it to my office address. This is probably the safest way. I don't know when they'll have fixed Xenox, and then I'll probably have problems with the configuration of the new modem. On a brighter note, I can say that all the preparations for our holiday have run smoothly. We now have all the tickets, and we have the reservation for the hotel and car for our first stop in Orlando. See ya ... ...
