So if we ever meet Mssrs Scott and David we should endeavour to happyvangelize to them since their names have appeared in these very pages, yet let us now celebrate the fine individuality between Mssrs Dixon and Zimmerman, though they have much in common, not the least being excellent taste in music, and acknowledge the fact that Vickie is, very humbly, dain-bramaged, and is truly embarrassed that she got the two fine sirs mixed up wrt who actually possesses the copy of the very fine cassette of which we speak. I'm still in full computer-geek mode lately. However, I finally downloaded an X GIF viewer for my new machine and have now finally seen the Happy promo photo that Jessica put in the hardees archive. Wow. xv also compensates well for the rather dark appearance of the Vol. I and II cover GIFs. I've been doing a few small things to spread the word about Happy. The woman who is in charge of the ski program I volunteered for this winter expressed an interest in Happy after I mentioned how cool I thought our Hapster is, so I loaned her _Warpaint_ and _Equipoise_. She apparently thought they were pretty cool; although I haven't had a chance to ask her directly she left a note on the CDs when I picked them up saying that she thought Happy was very creative. Played _Warpaint_ at a dinner gathering at a friend's place; one of the people there was very impressed by "Lay Me Down" (as it should be, since "Lay Me Down" is one of nature's most perfect songs). Also put in a request to KLCC last week. I'm wondering how often I can afford to call before they start recognizing my voice and saying I call too much :-). However, I think there are some other fans in the area since I've heard several reports of people hearing Happy on KLCC. But I'm kind of in a rush right now, since I have to get packed to go to Spokane this weekend for Bloomsday. Any Ecto-Bloomies or Spokane Ecto correspondents can find me at the Spokane Sheraton. ======================================================================== Date: Fri, 30 Apr 93 2:42:45 EDT From: WretchAwry Subject: Need some help please Hi, another happyvangelizing success! Having visited half a dozen SF conventions by now, I noticed that there never was a program item about science fiction in music, and that this would be something I'd like to see. This thought led to the idea of doing a talk about this topic at the '95 WorldCon in Glasgow myself. If noone else does it ... Two weeks later I'm still considering the idea, but before the decision and contacting the organizers, I thought about trying to get some input from you. Some clarifications first: - I'm talking about "SF in music", not "Music in SF movies/shows". - I don't mean filk music, but how pop/rock artists cover this subject. Here are my questions: If you were going to a "SF in music" talk: What would you like to hear? (did I hear someone shouting "Happy"? ;) At this point I don't want to get suggestions about specific songs or artists. I'm only collecting general topics right now. To the con-goers among you: Have you ever seen something like "SF in music" at a convention? If you've attended it: What has been done there? Special topics? Examples of lyrics? Songs being played? Please respond by e-mail to klaus@inphobos.w.open.de Thanks, Klaus. Hi All! I have just joined ECTO and GEnie (Prodigy $$ forced me to look elsewhere)....good thing I did because I'm happy to say:) that I will have the opportunity to drive Happy and crew from Detroit to Ann Arbor on Saturday. Thanks again to Bob for announcing this travel dilemma they were in! I'll post a full report this week-end. Welcome to Ecto, Lynn. I'm glad to see Happy make it to A Squared, and I've a tinge of envy for you. :-) Is it still a cultural oasis? There was so much diversity, intellectual activity and tolerance that I left behind moving to a big city in the mid-'70's? I often dream to return to such a place, but there are so few, and they are temporal as well. Happy's visit there is a big plus. For that reason, though someone indicated Happy might visit Dallas, I have a hard time imagining her coming here. This Conservative bastion? While there are some free thinkers and like minded music lovers, I would have to say that Austin would be a much more likely place for her to visit, and she is not to visit there. Sigh... Threads I have a little thread in my hand it's red today the colour of blood sometimes it's the colour of death today is the colour of my path I'm on a journey threads weaving my road it reminds me of tiny lines etched in my hands mapped out carefully running into each other at just the right points The child inside of me weeps today missing the grandmother I knew for a short while she wasn't my true grandma, but it felt like she was Unfortunately, there aren't enough fingers to wipe away the tears trickling down my cheek I feel sad but happy talking about memories helps me, Outside the wind is cool, breezing slowly around my feet like sand on the shore seeping my limbs into the soil. I can hear the sound of your voice, noticing the way your lips move when you talk. I can see you sitting in your chair, Crombie laying on your lap, snoozing away, and the roar of the planes close by, flying onwards. Everyday is a new day somwhere in the world The realization hits me, I smile among the tears, grieving helps the pain, memories help the soul, I can hear your voice again and I know that these threads are magic moments, weaving daisies on this long winding road. -JB Schreiter ======================================================================== Date: Fri, 30 Apr 1993 11:53:17 -0400 (EDT) From: consid Subject: Throwing Muses, etc. A few weeks ago, I saw an ad in the Washington Post for a show in Virginia: "Kristin Hersh, ex-Throwing Muses." So it seems the Muses are gone for good. I wonder if Kristin is tearing her hair out now that Belly are Big Stars with a high-rotation video on MTV? I saw the Muses many times in the late '80s and remember Tanya as being sorta mousy-looking ... I suspect the imagemeisters at the record company did their work on her before the Belly album was released, 'cause she sure looks like a babe now! Brian, maybe you can answer this one: I heard that the Dallas City Council has several openly gay members. Is this true? It sounded awfully suspicious to me, because I thought Texas was still the home of homophobic good ol' boys. "Like Water For Chocolate" is subtitled (and according to the Colombian friend I saw it with, very accurately too). Go see it! Now! It's fantastic.
