I asked Emily if she could share with us some info about Andrew Higgins, her bass player. Here's her response. - --Sue Trowbridge trow@slip.net From: Emily Bezar RE Andrew: He just turned 25 and has been playing bass professionally since he was 17. He plays acoustic, fretted electric and fretless electric (he tends to use six string basses for my stuff). His recent longish gig besides me (we met in late 1995) was with the SF neo-swing group the New Morty Show. He toured the US with them in fall of '98 but left them in January '99. His main work is as a freelance player around the bay area in both commercial studio work and the restaurant/hotel circuit. He seems to have gigs almost every day in every imaginable style though I think he especially gets a lot of jazz gigs these days. Other instruments he plays: cello, piano, drums and also composes songs and electronic pieces when gets the time. I feel so fortunate to have met him as he has really been an inspiration and a help to me in developing the rhythmic feel of my recent music. He also introduced me to Steve Rossi, our drummer, who he's been playing with since they were 16!! Steve, by the way, is the drummer for SF band Mingus Amungus who are in the process of recording their 2nd album. They are a large-ish jazz group dedicated to the music of Charles Mingus - they incorporate hip-hop, rap and live dancers into their sound. It is a pretty unique group and has gotten quite a bit of acclaim in the SF new-jazz scene. They are going to play at the Playboy Jazz festival in LA this year and will also appear in a scene from the upcoming Timothy Hutton movie "SFO". So, I hope that gives at least some satisfying info for the list. I will be happy to answer more specific questions or pass them on to the band if anyone is interested. ------------------------------ End of dream-gasoline-digest V2 #7 **********************************
