I enjoy such postings, especially seeing as the list has been so quiet lately. I've been meaning to chime in so often in the past, about Catie's adoption, her dogs, my thoughts on her last album, and so on, but I just never seem to have enough spare time. I feel a real connection to Catie, though. Besides just enjoying her awesome music/talent, we too recently (well, just over two years ago) adopted a little one, Maxwell , internationally. (Way belated congrats to Catie!) And, like Catie, dogs are a major part of our lives. Anyway, the point of this e-mail? We sadly lost our beloved English Springer Spaniel, Maggie , on Christmas Eve. A few days ago, I wrote a little poem myself. (I thought it'd be therapeutic to do so, and perhaps also to share it.) It's written from the perspective of my two-and-a-half-year-old: To Maggie, From Max I'll likely not remember you So young was I when you departed That cold and dreadful Christmas Eve With Mom and Dad so broken-hearted And with forced smiles on Christmas day A joyous time for me they wished They held each other up for me Though, their sweet lady, they so missed And Dad collected photographs Of you alone, and us together That I might keep at least a glimpse Of better days with brighter weather And though the sun will always rise And sunsets, beautiful, will come Their hearts, the same, will never be The loss of you has made them numb Steve Gilmore wrote: >Do It Anyway > - Author unknown (NB: If anyone does know the author, speak up!) > >People are often unreasonable, illogical, and self-centered; forgive them anyway. > >If you are kind, people may accuse you of selfish, ulterior motives; be kind anyway. > >If you are successful, you will win some false friends and some true enemies; succeed anyway. > >If you are honest and frank, people may cheat you; be honest and frank anyway. > >What you spend years building, someone could destroy overnight; build anyway. > >If you find serenity and happiness, they may be jealous; be happy anyway. > >The good you do today, people will often forget tomorrow; do good anyway. > >Give the world the best you have, and it may never be enough; give the world the best you've got anyway. > >You see, in the final analysis, it is between you and God; it was never between you and them anyway. > >Steve Gilmore >Charlotte, NC USA > >Be yourself--it's the one thing that you can do better than anyone else can do. > >We are standing on the rooftops >We are circling like sparrows >We are tiny, we are trembling, >Scared of everything >But the heart is still a red wing > >--"Redwing" written by Dan Messe, from Hem's CD "Eveningland" > > - -- Mark Katsouros, Communications Integration Guy mark@katsouros.com http://katsouros.com ------------------------------ End of dads-yard-digest V7 #6 *****************************
