Some things may have changed since my visit. 1. The Freedom Trail, if you've got time. It starts at the Boston Common and ends on the opposite side of the Charles River. You can walk the entire distance in an hour or two, but, of course, the point is to take in all the historic sites that are on the trail--starting with the Boston Common itself. It takes the better part of a day to see it all as you walk, but it's worth it. You can eat at any of the many good restaurants near the Trail, as well as the food court at Faneuil Hall. 2. A ride on the doubledecker tour buses. You'll get a narrated tour of downtown Boston. The complete circuit takes an hour, but you can ride it over and over again if you want or reboard it later in the day (I did it twice). 3. Harvard, as previously mentioned. 4. A Red Sox game, if they're home. Experience thrills and heartbreak just like the townfolk do. 5. If you have a car, drive to Lexington, Concord, and Walden Pond. They make an interesting day trip and an escape from city traffic (Take the "T" if you have to get from the suburbs to downtown Boston or from one part of town to another. Once downtown, you can walk to all the attrractions located there.) 6. Do not leave Boston without (a) a Harvard t-shirt (b) eating Steve's ice cream (c) taking in a great meal or two at any of the seafood or Italian restaurants near the downtown area. I did all of that, except for the Red Sox game, in just 3 days. Enjoy! Steve Gilmore Charlotte, NC USA ------------------------------ End of dads-yard-digest V6 #43 ******************************
