First Ashley played - but couldn't understand the words - not great acoustics, but her voice was wonderful! A bus;load of 46 of her closest friends had come on a bus to hear her - and got livelier thru the night. (Not blaming them for the later raucousness, I have no idea who they were. But if I could get their names and addresses, I would love to personally go deliver a message to each and every one of them about r^e^s^p^e^c^t.) ::koff:: Then Catie and Julie came on - WOW!!! Even though 1/3 of the place (back by the bar) were seemed to be having a huge party, Catie and Julie just made the best of it it and pulled off a stellar performance! I've seen her about 5 times before, but she was never this animated, playful and incredibly, magnificently incredible! (She's usually simply magnificently incredible.) I didn't understand the secret joke between them about the places burning down across the bay (umm, did they light the fires?) ... and the whole place shook when Caite shouted MERCY to us all... it was the best show I've seen. Sophie B Hawkins came on after Caite and Julie - and unlike those two, she was NOT happy with the loud bar crowd in the back. Kept making remarks about them - which only seemed to incite them to louder chattering and screaming - then she gave up and simply sang them into oblivion. I was never a huge Sophie fan - but wow - she can really scat! and her strip tease was pretty fun, too. But Catie and Julie still ruled! Standing in line preshow, her daughter came out and pushed her own stroller around. Utterly gorgeous dark eyes, grinning at everyone waiting for the show - she could have walked onstage and stolen the whole evening with one smile! ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 26 Apr 2004 14:16:26 -0700 (PDT) From: Heather Stewart Subject: [dads-yard] Re: Catie rocked at the Coachhouse in San JUAN Capistrano Hey Dar! Thanks for the write up! Damn...I HATE it when you go to actually listen to a show and people are so disrespectful. One reason I like Henfling's so much...for such a tiny bar, they do very well at keeping the non-show people quiet! But that's the challenge of a good performer, to rock right on through. I'm sure you saw one of the main reasons for Catie being so "up"...the little one pushing her stroller! ; ) Ain't she a doll? She literally was our potluck dinnertime entertainment back in January after the songwriting workshop. She's a little pistol, that's for sure! So bummed I missed seeing her and Liz on this trip. (hi guys!! ;) Never have seen Sophie B. ...probably would like to some day, but haven't really gone out of my way to catch her...hmmm...the strip tease is enticing. ; ) Thanks again... Okay, y'all...keep 'em coming! And don't forget to head over to http://www.catiecurtis.net for more chats!
