(i didn't quite make it this morning!) 8) so...henfling's... have i already said i love henfling's? ...of course i have. like catie said last night...it's a funky little place with some fun energy. she's not the only musician who likes plays there because of that. heck, it is a biker bar, after all...how can you not be relaxed?! a much different place, brian, than the one you see it bernie's last set of photos! i'm sure she'll be posting a new set with those pix. me...duh...i brought a camera but both nights i left it out in the car!! oh well...i wasn't so worried when i saw other electronics there to cover for me. oh...here's a little hint...wanna make a friend for life quick-like? give them a foot massage! my little pre-show story... i got to the bar early...and there was julie laying on the stage as catie walked back with their beer. no sound tech was there...and they were waiting for the double keyboard stand...so they were a chillin' til they had to work. stretched out on the stage floor...i noticed julie's shoes were off. now first...i have to give a disclaimer that i have this propensity for spontaneous massage giving...don't ask me why...i don't know...i just do. my forte is generally back and shoulder...but for some weird reason, when i saw julie's feet while they were all stretched out with their drinks i thought, "all she needs now is a foot massage"...so i gave her one! of course, this was only after i got strenuous confirmation from julie that her feet were not "ooky". she willingly accepted...she ain't no dummy! see, now catie took too long in ditching her shoes...and shortly after she did, the sound tech showed up and they had to get to work. awww...too bad, so sad....but i had julie melting in my hands...so to speak. 8) ANYway... i ate dinner during sound check...and all of that was a bit scattered, with the tech being late, gear being late, etc. girlyman didn't really get much of one...and there were glitches with things...blah blah blah. but right on time, the show began. girlyman played through the best they could...and they did just fine. once again, they put on a great little set. they're heading to LA tonight for a couple of solo shows...if anyone is down that way...GO!!! It's at Room 5 Lounge (www.room5lounge.com). Then they're down in San Diego at Coaster Saloon (www.coastersaloon.com) before they reconnect with catie in santa monica. catie was definitely more relaxed and feeling a little better in this space and you could tell...her energy was a bit more engaging than the night before. after closing out Girlyman's set with them singing Son of a Preacher Man, she opened hers with Deliver Me. the set list was very similar to the night before, but tonight she played 100 miles. when she opened it up for requests, the audience was surprisingly quiet in their shout outs...so i got one in loud and clear...Dandelion. julie clapped like a little school girl as catie asked me if julie had set me up with that one because she's been wanting to play it all tour so far. nope...maybe when her channel's cleared after the foot massage, a subliminal message was communicated to me through her toes...or something like that! 8) when i did the other set list...i could not for the life of me remember the encore closer...but i wrote it on my hand to remember last night. it was a scrumptiously funky version of Tell Me Something Good with Girlyman on stage too. actually, they joined catie for a couple more songs last night than the previous show...a lot of fun with everyone up there. so...another fun show, another too short visit. she'll be back in town in september to play in the Songwriters Festival with Richard Thompson down in Saratoga at the Villa Montalvo. right now, it looks like that's the only fall show in this area. don't know if they'll book any others around then...kinda hope so! in the mean time...catie's driving down to LA today to spend a couple of days with her honies...Lucy and Liz...she's very excited to see her little girl. very cute to watch her parent bubbling. :) okay...i'm passing the torch... she's still got many dates left on the tour, it's your turn to share the happenings!! ciao... heather (cross posted www.catiecurtis.net) "Change is difficult.
