[Heather Stewart Subject: [dads-yard] It was Freight tonight... ...tomorrow will be Henfling's...but I thought I'd take a second before I fall into bed to leave a quick recap of tonight. It was a full house in Berkeley tonight! I was selling merch for Catie, so I was there a bit early...to hear Catie all plugged up with a wee bit o' cold stuffing her nose. So I helped out doing whatever I could. She wasn't feeling terrible, but not 100% either...but she still put on a great show. I finally met Bernie (and Doug) in person! Bernie is the webmistress of http://www.catiecurtis.net and was there selling the cool DIRL T-Shirts. Along with Girlyman's crew...the merch table was crowded too! ; ) Speaking of Girlyman...Brian said they were good...yup. Doris, Tammy, Nate...great harmonies, great energy, good songs, good music. Lot of fun. I - and the audience - got a particular kick out of "Hey Rose". They got to play 6-8 songs in the opening set. A great opening band...gets the audience juices flowing for the headliner. They can do their own headlining as more folks outside of NY get to know them. Being Berkeley, and all, this is a pretty welcoming place for all kinds of artists and music...it might take a little longer in middle America! Joining Catie was double-tiered-keyboard-and-grand-piano-playing Julie Wolf. Like others have said...Catie blended in some oldies in with DIRL songs. A particular request hollered out was "I Don't Cry Anymore". I haven't seen Catie play that in a show in a long time. Julie really wanted to, so they gave it a shot. Only once, while Catie was busy listening to Julie and let her mind wander, did she forget which verse she was on! I was particularly pleased to hear Cry because in 1998, my second year at CCMC (http://www.musiccamp.org), I played that song in the student concert...complete with backup singers! Since my first year I sang my own song - alone, first time on mic, and with Catie in the front row! - I decided to sing a song of hers as my inspiration for me going to camp in the first place. I've got her set list in front of me...but I know there were a couple of changes. Amuses me a little to see her stories set list too. Those, I'm not sharing, you'll just have to hear for yourself. Here's what it says (as written): Deliver Me Magnolia Hod On Night Bicycle Troubled - - i think it was around here that we got I Don't Cry Anymore and Memphis Itsa Way Love Takes Red Light Patience Elizab (R) Kiss Whassa Life Saint The audience tonight was a little less willing to jump in and join Catie in some of the typical sing along songs like Deliver Me, What's The Matter, Honest World, and Memphis. She kind of had to coax them along. I tried to set the example from the front row! ...grin... So...looking forward to tomorrow's show. Henfling's is far more casual an environment. Hopefully the crowd will be loose and we'll have a rousing good time! Speaking of quiet, I miss the conversation here in the Yard...come on y'all...speak up!! What are your thoughts about the CD? Do tell about show stories too! Heck...say anything! (other than that that would be censured by the FCC! ;) night all... Heather (cross posted http://www.catiecurtis.net) "Change is difficult.
