Trying one more thing. Thanks for the feedback, on my test! ;) +++++++++++++++++++++ Okay...I have to confess and apologize...I organized a couple of events yesterday that I had kept quiet and selective for the sake of manageability, remember, I live in the San Francisco area! Now that it's over, I want to share what a fabulous experience it was...not to gloat - really! :D - but to share what I know this community can relate to...the special feeling of the events. Consider this more of a journal entry than anything. But before I blather on, I must first give my deepest thanks to Catie and Liz. I would also like to thank my friends Cski, Linda, Ellen, and Robin for helping make the day really special. The prelude to the story is that last year, Catie was going to hold a songwriting workshop that she needed to cancel due to tour and publicity commitments. In Dec, she sent me an email saying she would be in the area for vacation I wondered if I would help coordinate a "make up" workshop, and can we do a house concert too? Uh...and my answer was? So, since December, I've been producing and coordinating these two events. My friend, Carol (Cski) Lewandowski hosted the workshop at her house and helped me with the house concert, and Linda hosted the concert at her home...Ellen helped with sound and Robin with set up. We had to be realistic, Catie doing a house concert? We couldn't accommodate more than 55 people, so we had to keep the publicity pretty selective...hence the apology and the reason it was not publicized through dads-yard or directly from Catie. We had about 14 people in the 3-hr workshop. We talked lyrics, primarily. What makes a good song work, exercises for creating resource material for songs, song themes, etc. Catie was the only one who really picked up her guitar for illustration, and offered feedback on our exercise and Q&A's about whatever anyone wanted to ask her. Lot of good ideas and I think everyone walked out inspired...I think I'm supposed to write a song about a boat! ; ) Then a little social potluck between the workshop and the concert. Lucy was the entertainment! lolAdorable...and so are Catie and Liz as moms. No doubt in anyone's mind how much that little girl is loved by those two! Then on to the house concert. The place was packed with many of our California Coast Music Camp family as well as friends and neighbors. Linda and Martin are gracious hosts and allow us to fill their home with friends and music...it's a wonderful thing. In Linda's meditation room with a huge tree mural watching over us and a beautiful setting on the mantel, Catie was relaxed and shared a little insight with her thoughts about what an interesting group of people we were to look at! You know, she can generally only see the front row because of lights...if that. So there were a couple of times she forgot words as her mind wandered...of course, we were there to help her out as best we could! She doesn't do many house concerts these days! But hey, although her ingrained professionalism told her otherwise, the thing that made it so fun was that this wasn't a typical "show", see, she's human! ; ) I'm not even going to try to write the set list, she did a little of everything, including some from the upcoming Dreaming in Romance Languages. She played most of our requests, mine was Troubled Mind, but one very special (and funny!) dedication was to Bernie (creator of www.CatieCurtis.net), not there because she's getting married today, Magnolia Street! The evening closed with a standing O and a predefined encore-that-wasn't along with being able to chat, sign CD's, and take pictures...some of which I'll share later. Now they're off for the rest of their vacation...very grateful to escape the winter of MA for a while!...and I am very much looking forward to seeing her again soon when she comes back out in the area for the DIRL tour. She announced last night they just booked a show at the Freight & Salvage for some time in April...so stay tuned for more details. As you may have figured out from reading my "how did i find catie" story, this was a very, very special opportunity for me. Catie knows I've adored her for years (as we talked, we realized it's been 10 years, as a matter of fact!) and the chance to share something like this with her was priceless. The whole experience just confirmed for me how special a woman she is, why I like her so much, and why I feel lucky to be able to call her a friend. As a trained Recreation professional, I learned that there are 4 phases for a complete recreational experience...1) anticipation, 2) preparation, 3) participation, and 4) recollection. As we soon realize, #3 is always the shortest part! So, thanks for allowing me to shift into phase 4 and share this with you all. I look forward to seeing some of you at the SF area shows, as soon as I post the pictures (to CC.net), you'll know who to say hi to! : ) peace, Heather (cross posted to www.CatieCurtis.net) __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!?
