In addition to moving, I got a bad cold too - dammit - but it was a fun visit overall. Here's a couple things about the shows: Foley's CellarOkay...before I get to Catie, I've gotta rag on the venue! Good gawd...just goes to show you why I really dislike Slim's...I don't think they believe in chairs so they can cram in as many people as possible!! Foley's Cellar is a dark bar, with a little stage and a well worn wooden floor with everything that spills on it and soaks up...it is NOT a "club". The last time Catie was there, we were treated like grown ups there to see the listening performance Catie's shows are...we got chairs. But this time, if you wanted to sit with any opportunity of seeing something, you on the freakin' floor. If you wanted to sit, you could go to the very back and sit at the 5 or so bar tables they have or at stage right where you can't see anything. Hell, even the tiny biker bar Henfling's provides some up front chairs! There's more I'd like to bitch about, but I'd sound like a really old, angry and uncool dyke slammin' the youngn's...since I'm not really any of those, I'll shut up now... ;) Ah...sorry, venting over...now...about Catie!! :) Deb Talan opened and was really good...funny too. First time I've heard her live, liked her sound. Then Catie's turn. Julie Wolf was there to join in with vocals and accordian backup. Can't remember set list...sorry, busy standing... but lots of the popular ones, a couple of new ones, and from Acoustic Valentine - Honest World AKA "The Gay Anthem". Not to dis' full production sound cause it adds a lot to the songs that I enjoy, but I happen to love solo acoustic. So the show was and Acoustic Valentine is great ...I loved her doin' thangs the way she started... I would agree that Magnolia Street is a bit fast...but I'm also partial to it on the piano...the way it is on the CD. Other than that...I love it all! Don't know if I have a fave yet, but Troubled Mind has a special place in my heart. Have to admit, after seeing the shows where the audience sings Honest World as call and repeat, I now - of course - have to sing my part with the CD too! ;) I had to miss the Palm's show, heard it was sparsely attended...Super Bowl Sunday and a new venue location don't help...but the show at Henfling's in the Santa Cruz was packed. I was running merchandise and was at stage left...pretty much heard the show from the monitors...and it still sounded good! Lot's of energy...and a lot better feel for me than Foley's. It was great to see her and catch up, as usual and as always, I look forward to the next visit. Peace y'all!Heather ------------------------------ End of dads-yard-digest V5 #14 ******************************
