What a treat! It's very nice to hear just Catie and the guitar. John Jennings does some nice harmonies, too. Upon first listen, I have a couple of observations: 1 - I really like "Kiss That Counted" much better acoustically! 2 - "Hush" is great! I have to say, it wasn't one of my favorites from "Shirt", but hearing it acoustically gives me a new appreciation. 3 - On the downside, I don't care as much for the acoustic version of "Magnolia Street." I'm not quite sure what it is. I think the original version sounds more...passionate, maybe. Not sure if that's the right word, but the acoustic version just isn't doing it for me. I kind of feel the same way about "Troubled Mind." Those are two of my favorites, too. Maybe that's part of the problem...I'm too attached to the original recordings. Maybe that's why I'm enjoying the acoustic versions of the songs that weren't my favorites before! Looking forward to hearing everyone else's opinion. Hopefully the new CD will get this list busy again. - --Jeff ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 23 Jan 2003 21:21:13 GMT From: Liz Elliott Subject: [dads-yard] Catie concert review Hi Everyone, I saw Catie perform last night with Deb Talon. I knew Catie had made the new acoustic CD (which I bought at the show, and have been listening to all day), but I didn't think she would be performing without her band. But that's exactly what she did, she stood up on stage and played about 12-15 songs with just her and her guitar. (Deb joined in singing back-up for several songs at the end, but in my opinion didn't really add anything.) This was my 4th Catie performance, and she sounded as wonderful as ever. Her voice is so strong and clear! She did a few new songs, and one in particular I was hoping would be the new one on the cd because I really liked the chord progressions. I can't even remember what it was about (some reviewer I am!), but what intrigued me most was the music, not the words. Catie also looked great! She was happy and (as always) had some cute antidotes, one about her Pug Sam who swam across the river chasing a Golden Retriever was especially funny. All in all it was wonderful to see her perform again, but I think I do prefer her live with the band. The new cd is absolutely wonderful, I'm sure I'll be enjoying it for many years to come. Peace. Before I had read Jeff's e-mail, I already concluded that "Kiss That Counted" really sounded wonderful acoustically and was my favorite on the CD. So I just had to reply to this. :-) Of course, I'm always a sucker for "Dandelion." I do wish she had included at least one of my three favorite Catie songs: "Bicycle Named Heaven", "Do Unto Others", and "Love Takes the Best of You" (of course). But I guess they aren't her most appropriate "Valentine" songs. Regardless, I love the new CD... "Hudson, Jeff ( WES )" wrote: > I just received my acoustic valentine, too! What a treat! Since I knew she was coming here soon, decided I'd wait to buy it at the show. It'll be hectic for me fitting shows in between moving, but I'll do it! Will have to miss the show at the new Palms Playhouse in Winters, CA. And rumor has it that Catie just signed on to do West Coast Live on Saturday 25th too. So, tune in to listen. Here's the WCL site of radio affiliates in US and show times. Okey dokey...today's my Friday and I'm ready for the weekend!! Peace, y'all!!
