Enjoyed her set. The Club Cafi is very small. As I went back to use the rest room during Rose's set, I ran into Catie standing in the hall watching and got to have a very short conversation. Catie played solo, wearing glasses this time. Someone mentioned she didn't wear glasses during a recent show. Well, during her encore she mentioned she was reading the book "Take off your Glasses and See," and that it said you could feel more emotion w/o your glasses. So she took them off for "Dad's Yard," saying, "let's see if it works." Set list: Magnolia Street St Lucie? New song "about searching, written on the way to therapy" St Lucie is the patron saint of the blind. Radical (all you guitar players out there, it looked like she tuned the bottom string down for this one, which I had never noticed before) Follow? Another new song, seemed like it could have been written on the way to therapy, too, though she didn't say! Elizabeth Great Reprise Trouble (?) or Hold On new song - someone mentioned this was a breakup song, but I think it is a make-up song after you've had some trouble and realized what a good thing you have. This song really rocks - the words are good and the chorus is very driving. I was trying to sing along even though I'd never heard it before. Someday we'll all be free (?) this is the "gay anthem" she thought she'd better write after reading in a newspaper that she sang some. At this point Rose came back to do backing vocals and some guitar, so I was afraid the set was almost over, but I was wrong. Patience Bicycle Soulfully (we got to sing along on the oos and ohs) Troubled Mind Bird on a Wire (Leonard Cohen song - great!) You are Everything (?) another new song. She used the loop recorder to play it in two octaves at the same time. Very rhythmic guitar part. Love takes the best of you Kiss that Counted Encores by request: Memphis Dad's Yard Great show! Towards the end I noticed she was sniffling, and she apologized for having a slight cold. This in no way deterred the guy in the front row who had been chain-smoking all evening. I understand some people are addicted, but could you not wait an hour rather than blowing smoke in the face of someone trying to sing. ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 27 Nov 2002 18:06:33 -0600 From: "folkyboy" Subject: Re: [dads-yard] concert review oh i know! when i saw Ellis Paul in St Louis last month all these people were smoking and it just was SO rude. do you remember Rose's set? i love her. ~tim ps: i loved your review! - ----- Original Message ----- From: "Marcia Smith" To: "catielist" Sent: Wednesday, November 27, 2002 7:43 AM Subject: [dads-yard] concert review > Catie at Club Cafi > > Pittsburgh, November 24 > > > > Rose Polenzani opened for Catie.
