She played a brilliant show in front of a way too sparse crowd. I'll see her Saturday night as well, when she opens for Guy Clark in Santa Cruz. Mary mentioned Catie and the song they wrote together. It was pretty funny - Mary's from Louisiana and her mother is "mama." She said she couldn't get Catie to say "mama" no matter how hard she tried. Catie would only say "Mother." Mary seemed surprised that most of us in the audience say "mom" (since there's not much that rhymes with "mom" and you can rhyme a bunch of stuff with "mama.)
