There was a respectable crowd of approx 100 people which for a first solo performance in a city was better than most could muster , Catie having previously toured in 1999 as support to Mary Chapin Carpenter in front of thousands ! She spoke proudly of her ancestoral links with Scotland , which are true by the way ... her family name being Urquhart , and told of her first gig ever outside of the USA was In Aberdeen , in Scotland where a fan gave her a neck tie bearing the Urquhart clan symbol which Catie presented to her grandfather who she fondly remembered the last time she saw him before he passed away last year was wearing the tie. So to the music ... Catie opened with Patience and then proceeded to play a lot of stuff from MSLGOY , and afterwards asked for requests ... testing the local knowledge , I guess ... but they came and we got Soulfully , Magnolia Street and another I can't remember. Catie performed several new songs , one of which she had only written 3 days ago while in Amsterdam , another was called "Doctor" - I think , and a song she said was about tourism in Maine that I couldn't recall hearing before - anybody know what that might have been ? Catie told us that while in a hotel lobby in Germany very recently there was a Beatles song playing on the PA which her tour manager suggested she should learn and perform , so they set out to find a record shop and they couldn't find one anywhere . but during a radio staion appearance the locals obliged and she learned , and performed for us "And Your Bird Can Sing" which for those not familiar with The Beatles can be found on "Revolver" Catie and Jimmy played three encores and seemed well pleased with the audience reaction , Catie leaving the stage at one point to get her video camera to film the audience - and anyone who later asked for a photograph ! Set list , in no order , included ... Patience My Shirt Looks Good On You Troubled Mind And Your Bird Can Sing Doctor Love Takes The Best Of You Soulfully - My request ! Magnolia Street Dad's Yard Falling Silent In The Dark Memphis Stay Up All Night What's The Matter Kiss That Counted Don't Lay Down Radical Plus others I either don't know the title of , or have forgotten A great gig , looking forward to an early return to Scotland Donald Aberdeenshire , Scotland ------------------------------ End of dads-yard-digest V4 #48 ******************************
