[Joy Elyse Greenwald ] ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Date: Wed, 9 Jan 2002 07:32:09 -0800 (PST) From: Joy Elyse Greenwald Subject: [dads-yard] NCCC: Important for residents of MA! Dear List Members, This isn't CC content, but I guarantee this would be important to her life...and to many of our lives. As many of you know, I have been involved with MassEquality.org, The Campaign for Equality. We are a coalition of gay rights and civil rights groups fighting the Defense of Marriage Act in MA. There's a scandal brewing in Massachusetts and your name may be part of it without your knowledge. Here's what's going on: One week after September 11, a paid signature gathering firm from Arizona came to Massachusetts to work for a group of anti-gay extremists. They are trying to use the ballot initiative process to change the Massachusetts Constitution, and place gay and lesbian couples entirely outside the law. Simple decencies like Bereavement Leave and health care coverage for their children may be unconstitutional. People with extreme ideologies are usually comfortable using extreme tactics to get their way. The signature-hustlers have been plagued by fraud and forgery problems in other states and, as you may have read in our local papers recently, their behavior was no different here. What this means for you: If you signed any petition in the last few months, it's possible your name was copied onto the anti-gay petition. If you signed nothing? It's still possible. One of the problems the signature-hustlers have had in Arizona is something experts call "phone book forgery." How to check for your name now: The Campaign for Equality has made it easy to do a search of the public record of this petition right from their website at www.massequality.org. If you find your name, it's possible the Campaign can help you. I urge you to visit www.massequality.org to check your name. The website also has information on how to get involved and how to make donations if you are interested. The other side has millions of dollars to fund their hateful efforts. We need all the help we can get to make sure they fail. Regard, Joy Elyse Greenwald Boston NOW representative to MassEquality.org, The Campaign for Equality P.S. Please forward this e-mail to as many people as possible. The site has only been up for a couple of days now and still has very limited word-of-mouth publicity -- but we already have reports of fraud and forgery from people who found their names! Please help us attract people to this site. It works. Send your FREE holiday greetings online! http://greetings.yahoo.com ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 09 Jan 2002 11:18:00 -0500 From: Mark Katsouros Subject: Re: [dads-yard] NCCC: Important for residents of MA! I thought I'd mention that this only seems to apply to Massachusetts residents. (In other words, if you don't live in a Massachusetts city, you don't need to check for your name.) But the cause (of The Campaign for Equality) is still a worthy one, so a visit to the site (for more information or to make a donation) certainly wouldn't be a waste of anyone's time. I'll never understand why some people can't just "live and let live." BTW, look for a new boot on the Catie stealth site soon. (Stay tuned for more info.)
