Where's that? It's nestled in the Santa Cruz mtns. And Henfling's is the local biker bar! : ) An interesting place to see Catie, for sure! Small, intimate and very casual...and she packed the house...even in Ben Lomand! Got a chance to chat with her a bit before the show...and she's very happy to be in Northern California for a few days before heading north to Oregon and Washington. I guess the gig in Santa Barbara last night and the one at Henfling's tonight were at opposite ends of the venue and audience spectrum! And you could tell she had a LOT of fun tonight...lot's of smiles. Today is Jimmy's birthday, the crowd was slow on the uptake, so I took it upon myself to kick off a lovely (is that song EVER really "lovely"???) audience sing-along of Happy Birthday. : ) Speaking of Jimmy, he's playing an interesting looking new electric mandolin (he told me all the techie details, but I can't remember them at the moment!) these days instead of the acoustic, along with his trusty "black, 5-string, solid-body, left-handed, electric mandolin". You know, I just have to say again that when he and Catie were here in Sept, I got to see Jimmy play with David Bromberg and JAM on his mando like nobody's business...lot's of fun to see him play like that. And for his birthday...several long mando leads and other fun dittys were encouraged tonight! She's getting a lot of miles out of her squirrel shirt she got here last visit! : ) With the full band (Jimmy, bass, drums), it was fun to finally hear a live version of My Shirt Looks Good on You. She rocked most of the Shirt cuts with several favorites mixed in like Memphis, 100 Miles, What's the Matter, Soulfully, etc. I didn't bother recording a set list...too busy enjoying the show! Mixed in with several stories about Sam...being in the mtns and missing Sam, Sam's new habit of standing on the dishwasher door, Sam winning 3rd place in the weinie bob at a Massachusetts Pug gathering. I'm sure she misses you too, Liz! ; ) I'll be missing the show in Healdsburg tomorrow, but I'll be at Slim's on Monday night. Word has it Julie Wolf will be joining her on stage doin' that keyboard and harmony schtuff! Slim's is truly a "club", so I'm sure it'll be very different from tonight! She has a lot of friends and fans here in San Francisco, so it should be a packed house and rockin' show! Stay tuned!
