I saw Catie Curtis for the first time last night in St. Paul, Minnesota. She openend for Dar Williams. It was really great to see her live and with a band. We all think her music and energy are great. I spoke with Catie after the show as she as signing autographs. At the end, I asked her about a source for trading tapes of her shows and I think it was this mailing list that she directed me to. I have developed a pretty good list of mostly soundboard shows on CD. The quality is very good. If you like Catie, I am sure that you will like something of what I have. I am looking for Catie shows. Could be Catie solo or with a band. Could be older or more recent shows. If you can please e-mail your list or web page address, I will e-mail my list. If this request is not what this mailing list is intended for I am sorry. This doesnt have any Catie Curtis content, but Im sure shed approve. In fact, they asked her to perform, but she is unavailable. Im involved with Nation Organization for Women (NOW). NOW NE is sponsoring a conference called Moving Forward Together: NOWs Northeast Les/Bi/Trans/Allies strategy Summit and Celebration November 16, 17, & 18 in Fairlee, VT. The Mission and the Goal of the conference is: "To bring together lesbians, bisexual and transgendered people and our allies...to break down barriers that splinter our movement....to build coalitions that will strengthen and unite our causes...To Move Forward Together... to strategize for our future and celebrate our victories and lives." Starting with a Poetry Slam Friday night [Alex Olson is performing!], the conference will feature nationally known feminist singers on Saturday night [Pamela Means among others], workshops that are inspiring and innovative, presentation of NOW's Woman of Courage Awards, and much, much more. This is a conference you won't want to miss! NOW wants to emphasize that ALL women are welcome at the Summit. A united, diverse feminist movement is vital to the future of our movement. Thanks for your anticipated help in reaching out to lesbian/bisexual/transgendered people and allies in your communities. The conference itself is $35 for the whole weekend. They have worked out a great deal with the hotel. If we can get 4 people in a room, its only $102.79 per person per night. That includes lodging, dinner, breakfast, lunch, and recreational amenities. (The food really helps make that worthwhile.) Two to a room is $111.56 per person per night. I really cant afford the single rate of $155.43. I need roommates! There is a ton more information at http://www.geocities.com/NEregionNOW/ Please let me know if youd be interested in sharing a room with me. Id like to make reservations soon. Thanks! Hi Folks – Not to sound like a too obnoxious fan, or anything ;), but as I was planning my calendar and working on tickets, I noticed on the California tour dates that two of the venues websites have old promo materials. If this tour is supporting My Shirt Looks Good On You, then it wouldn’t it be wise to promote it instead of Crash? They’ve got the new CatieCurtis.com website, but old promo photos and text and nothing mentioning Shirt. I do what I can to put the best word out to folks I can, so this is just an observation I thought I’d share! Thanks, Heather Stewart Henflings: http://www.henflings.com/international.html "Curtis' voice is so pure in pitch and so rich in tone… it seems to glow." Geoff Himes, Washington PostAn engaging live performer, dubbed "a folk rock goddess" by the New Yorker, Catie Curtis brings a rawer, rootsy sound to her Rykodisc debut, A CRASH COURSE IN ROSES (RCD 10478). Her third album is equal parts urban folk, acoustic rock, and pop, all of it lyrical, immediate, and illuminating music, with songs that communicate emotional depths with honesty and clarity. Her direct and powerful lyrics often deal with life's dramatic complexities and difficult sidesteps, making each listening experience an intimate encounter. True to form, Catie's new album is rich with experience and long on feeling. Lobero Theater: http://www.lobero.com/calnov.htm Catie Curtis started out as a very good coffeehouse folkie, but when she started to rock and let her heartfelt songs become infected with Southern soul, her voice took on a whole new shimmer. None of her fans have looked back. Her new CD on Rykodisc, A Crash Course in Roses, is a cross-pollination of styles with Catie's rich, lyrical songwriting underscored by her confident, gorgeous voice. ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 15 Oct 2001 15:50:25 -0400 From: Deb Subject: [dads-yard] Miss Folk America The Advocate profiled Faith Soloway in its special issue on "innovators" (8/14/01): >Faith Soloway: Gets Laughs by challenging PC attitudes >She cut her teeth with the famed Second City Improv Troupe in her native Chicago, hit it big with her national show The Real Live Brady Bunch, and shunned Hollywood for a girl and a shot at the Boston folk scene. "Sometimes I worry that my material is a little too raunchy for PC Boston, but audiences have laughed at everything," she says. "I don't want to say I'm exactly holding up my middle finger at some of our social constructions, but I'm kind of doing that in a lighthearted way." The T-shirts were $20, I thought it was $15 before. I still bought one to support her. Catie seemed to be rushing through her list but I'm glad she did get through the song list below, I'm hopefully getting it all and didn't miss anything. The chemistry between her and the audience seemed to pick up towards the end of her set. 1) Patience 2) What's the Matter (I'm SO glad she sang this one) 3) Love Takes the Best of You 4) Kiss That Counted 5) Troubled Mind 6) Great Reprise 7) My Shirt Looks Good On You 8) Elizabeth 9) Bicycle Named Heaven 10)Memphis ------------------------------ End of dads-yard-digest V3 #149 *******************************
