I was just sitting here starting off my day with my stack of CD's to put into my computer to help me make it through. I just pulled a stack out of my collection randomly and am laughing at what I pulled. But, it got me to thinking.....what is playing in everyone's world? Maybe this is too low brow for this list, I am still trying to get a feel for the list. I am having a hard time finding a list where people are open to other music and sharing their thoughts other than the person for whom the list exists for. But, my FAVORITE list is the "Over the Rhine" list. We talk about all kinds of music and just general subjects occasionally. I find that I start picking up patterns of what people are listening to and find out new artists and thus....I am on the Catie Curtis list. Here is what is spinning in my world. What is spinning in your world? Let me be a voyeur. Over the Rhine -- "Films for Radio" Cake -- "Motorcade of Generosity" Macy Gray -- "The Id" Lucy Kaplansky "Every Single Day" Peppermint Sampler Vol 2. Dixie Chicks -- "Fly" Ellis Paul "Live" Nelly Furtado "Whoa Nelly!" Pat McGee Band "Shine" Jars of Clay -- "Jars of Clay" Should be a fun day of music.....while I sit and do my drone work. It is very exciting to hear and is making me REALLY want to see a show soon! Unfortunately, Catie isn't scheduled to come to the Northern Kentucky/Greater Cincinnati area anytime soon. I was planning on visiting my friend in DC to see the Birchmere show, but had a change of plans since I was supposed to fly into National airport. Catie has a couple of shows coming up that are a few hours away. I am pretty sure I'm going to make the drive to at least one of them...but I was wondering a couple of things. Does anyone know about the show in Charleston, WV? She is on the bill with about 4 other performers and I am just wondering how long she is going to get to play. I really want to see her, but I'd hate to drive 4 hours for a short set. The other show I have a question about is at Ohio University, opening for Dar Williams. Does anyone know what kind of set she'll get to play when opening for Dar...how long and will she have her band? Of course, it will be great to see Dar, too. I'm just wondering how much of Catie I'll get to see by making the 3 hour drive! If anyone can offer any insight, I'd appreciate it. She has an amazing bluesy sound, that I am starting to get into. She is this small little person, with amazing guitar skills and a very unique voice. After Erin's incredible set, Catie came out on stage to a somewhat tame audience. For most, it was their first time out since 9/11 and they didn't know how to react. Catie made it a point that she wanted her concert to be a "safe space" and a distraction from the recent tragedies. As the night progressed, the crowd got more comfortable and a LOT louder. This was Catie's CD release party, for god's sake! She looked cute as always. Wearing her red pants and the "HOPE" squirrel shirt(I think it is a new staple). I really love Catie's long hair. I really really wish she played "Hush" and "Sugar Cane" off of Shirt, but no such luck. The show was completely perfect anyway. Catie was right on with every single song, and I could tell that she knew it. She seemed to be having a lot of fun. :) Out of the 11 Catie concerts I have been to in the last year, this was the best. She looked beautiful and was radiating from the stage. I was in the front row, so I had a perfect view. For an encore, Catie brought out Faith Soloway who wrote "Miss Folk America" to sing "Queer in Revere". I am now depressed that I never was able to see Miss Folk America. I think that I missed something great, because she was HILARIOUS. I think that there needs to be a revival of Miss Folk America ASAP. :) Catie played drums for Faith during "queer". Catie brought Sam, her pug, out onto stage and tried to get Sam to sing for us. Unfortunately, he was feeling shy. Sam came out onto stage later in the evening, along with Erin McKeown, Faith Soloway, the promoters for the show, Catie's partner & some family, and the rest of the band to sing "This Land is Your Land". It was really cute. The evening was wonderful. I went out and talked to Catie and got things signed after the show. My spirits were finally lifted, thank god. I think that most would agree that for at least 2 hours our sadness was turned into hope by Catie's music, words, and smile. sorry if this is a little jumbled, I have been trying to write a fitting review, but nothing seemed to be coming out right. best regards *meg* ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 27 Sep 2001 12:02:47 -0400 From: "Megan K. Magnolia Street 16. Fisherman's Blues Of course, #2, 7 & 10 will not be on the site, as they are from available CDs. We'll have to check with Catie regarding #11, as this Hear Music version is out of print. Because it was re-released (and re-mixed), this "original" version has a different arrangement so it may be interesting for listers, but I would want to get Catie's blessing before posting it. (I, for one, would certainly understand if Catie was uncomfortable blessing the posting of what was once officially released material.) Although Heather already mentioned it, I can't emphasize enough that this site is strictly for our list, non-profit, and unofficial. I'm sure everyone agrees that we don't want to adversely affect Catie's career or record sales in any way, shape, or form. Thus, the following disclaimer (from the site): DISCLAIMER: A non-profit project by fans, for fans. Except for the Burn Your Own House Down preview, these are not official Catie Curtis releases or by her recording companies. They are intended for HOME USE ONLY, NOT for public or radio play. NOT FOR SALE. Please keep it that way. For now, this is a "stealth" site, meaning that I ask that nobody publish links to it, at least until I can make sure that download traffic won't cause any problems. Many of the zip files are huge (60+ Megabytes!), so you may only want to try to download them from a decent (10 Mbits/second or faster) connection. For now, please only attempt to download the actual zip files during "off" hours, again, at least until I can make sure that there won't be any problems. Many of these may eventually be made available on tape (and/or possibly even CD-R) to "listers" at cost. However, by providing them now in the MP3 format, we hope to drastically reduce the overall number of such requests. For instance, those with the right equipment, i.e. a CD-RW drive and software such as MP3 Wizard or SIREN Jukebox, could theoretically burn their own CDs. Enjoy! I was in the car heading to her show and couldn't get reception on the radio...Masaki, you're my hero! ; ) Speaking of Masaki...wondering about this comment...which I, too, fully support: <<(I, for one, would certainly understand if Catie was uncomfortable blessing the posting of what was once officially released material.)>> What about putting Dandelion on there? Has she been asked about that? I know it's not available anymore (since it was only on tape in the first place), and judging from her comments in response to most requests from that tape I'm pretty darned sure she'd kind of like to put most of that album deep into her past (she's come a long way!), but has she been flat out asked about that one? It was her own label release, so no big company to worry about...just her! If she'd just as soon it stay 'hard to get', then I'm sure we can respect that! Thanks again to Mark for coordinating all that and making it available to us! I just bought some new music notation software, and since learning how the heck to use it, I've been under a deadline to finish transcribing some of my piano solo arrangements which will be published as a songbook for release this Christmas. Glad to hear you're enjoying the chord tabs, and I'll get back to them as soon as humanly possible! :) Take care of yourselves and LOVE ONE ANOTHER.
