I just tuned into WFUV and heard that they are doing a Catie concert today at 3:00. It's a live concert in their library, and sounds like it will also be web broadcasted. At least, I'm hoping so! Thanks for the heads up! I was able to tune in at work, but had no way of recording it. Hope someone did to be able to add to the "stealth" site! Sound was kind of sucky on my little speakers, but still sounded good. Yeah, a bit subdued, but then, would you expect anything else? Glad to hear she'd rather be out playing than sitting in a room writing songs...that would be hard work right now! I hope lots of folks fill The Bottom Line on Thursday and can celebrate life and "humanness" through song...it's quite a powerful soul soother! Take care all! I would love to record the Club Passim Benefit tonight because I can't make it and won't be around to hear the whole thing. Thanks in advance.. I haven't done it myself, but a friend recorded the Kris Delmhorst shows at Passim last December with this shareware program: http://www.hitsquad.com/smm/programs/TotalRecorder/ I was considering trying to record tonight and tomorrow's benefit shows, too, but I just don't have enough time to mess with the software. Good luck, and let us know if you make it work, especially if you want to share your recording. :-) I wish I were still in Cambridge so I could go to the shows in person! I appreciated reading Deb's message about planting her peace garden. I can echo your sentiments about needing to get away from the news. I've taken to turning off the t.v. and radio and putting on CDs. I've been drawn to a couple of songs in particular as I reflect on the week's events. Dar William's Mortal City and Catie's The Big Reprise have both been repeating in my CD player. While I've found parts of both of these songs to be witty and humorous in other situations, I find myself interpreting them as serious and relevant to the current situation in our country. In the Mortal City, the part about the underlying goodness of people turning off their electricity reminds me of the way everyone has rallied around and supported New York and DC. And how relevant is the line "I hear 1000 hearts beating at the hospital...and 1000 hearts by their bedsides waiting." In the Big Reprise...the questions of how God could let this happen, how much hate and war must we witness....how very relevant these questions are right now. I've found comfort focusing on the proposed answer...that these things remind us "to love one another, and be really present, right here, right now." I think that is one of the best ways that we can pay tribute to those who lost their lives...to let this tragedy remind us to be present and to love one another. I feel silly because I live in Boston but I can't seem to find the info. or what radio station it is being broadcast on, if any at all. I just joined this list the other day after falling in love with the new album and listening to it repeatedly. So I am new to all of this :)! Gloria, You can find out all kinds of info about historic Club Passim (including their concert calendar) here: http://www.clubpassim.org/ The club itself is in Harvard Square, and well worth your frequent visits. I had a great time seeing shows live there when I lived in Cambridge. When you call to reserve tickets, be sure to request seating for dinner first. You can just have a snack or dessert or something light instead of dinner if you want, but you'll get a seat at a table much closer to the stage instead of a chair along the back wall, and the tickets don't cost any more. If you're part of a party of less than four, they'll seat you at a table with other patrons, which is actually really fun. It's a great way to meet other people who like the same music you do. They also broadcast almost every show on the Web through RadioBoston.com -- you can find the link at the Passim home page. RadioBoston.com also broadcasts live from the Kendall Cafe and TT the Bear's, two other great local clubs. I listened to part of the show tonight, but unfortunately the feed cut out and I can't get it back. Such is life with live webcasts, it seems. But at least I got to hear a few songs by Kris Delmhorst, Mark Erelli and Lori McKenna before I lost it! Tonight's show sold out quickly, so if you're hoping to go tomorrow, I'd call their reservation line right now. Enjoy! I was able to record the entire Club Passim benefit tonight (except for part of Mark Erelli's first song when the program crashed---everything else is intact). I am very new to all of this, so if anyone would like to take it from here and offer it up to the list for trade, it would be great. As I said, I am new at this, and I couldn't figure out how to record the program in mp3 format, so it looks like we have one huge WAV file (in excess of one gigabyte). I can try to convert it to mp3, I'm not sure if my computer could handle such a huge file, so we'll see. If I get it converted, I suppose I could offer it up on Audio Galaxy if anyone is interested. Let me know! Elise ------------------------------ End of dads-yard-digest V3 #131 *******************************
