Maybe she needs to work without Jimmy Ryan. Maybe he's the obstacle. So many women performers seem to get co-opted by men in what a psychologist friend of mine says is co-dependency. One sees that a lot here in the South: most recently, the very talented Stacey Earle's announcement that she's switching in performance to a duo status with her husband Mark, who seems a very, very nice guy but is a lame performer except as a sideman. << I'd have to agree with that in the case of Stacey. I went to see her last year and Mark was on for about three quarters of an hour of the concert on his own. He was OK, but certainly not in Stacey's calibre as a performer. When she came on the concert just lifted to another level. She is such a bundle of fun to be around. Really lifts the spirits. I'm not so keen on her album but would certainly go see her anytime she comes to the UK. linda - One more week till I can buy Catie's new album!! ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 9 Sep 2001 03:50:46 EDT From: CampGrrl63@aol.com Subject: [dads-yard] the show at foley's... okay, masaki & dana, i lied... thought i was going to come home and go to bed, but i'm still a wee bit wound up...not as long a drive home as from davis! nice to see and meet so many listers, masaki, dana, susan, heidi, john, ann (you lurker you :) and there were probably others...come say hi to the gang in front next time! : ) oh, and nice to meet you too, Christa...miss window-gazing, leather jacket woman on the cover! ; ) so here's my one line review... "All that...and MORE!" okay, okay...you KNOW i can't leave it just at that! this show was great too...totally different vibe than davis. foley's was packed...regardless of the limited publicity. catie played to the house! she was her spunky, lively self up there. julie wolf came up as a guest for a couple of songs...julie totally forgot the lyrics to Troubled Mind, so that was the most humorous version i've seen of that. it was interesting too, that this was the first time i'd heard people laugh at Big Reprise, but in reality, Catie kind of played it up that way. I got the set list this time (literally...thanks susan! :)...and it's pretty funny the way she's noted things to herself...here, i'll post it verbatim: Patience Bike ...scribble... Big Reprise Magnolia B...scribble...e Gone Cover ewe Don't lay soulfully love tax now stay up jane troubled kiss lizzie memphist - ---- shoit raddd she did deviate from this a bit...didn't do "shoit"...which i find interesting that she didn't do it in davis either...the title cut? maybe she's just waiting for the full band so she can really bang it out...and we can all yell that line with her! ...and there was something else she added in, i think...but i can't remember she also had 3 encores!!! woo hoo! she also did: what's the matter dad's yard dandelion so...it was a fun, high energy show and a cute, new, little chipmunk shirt...i agree, it's definitely more chipmunk than fox! : ) go miss cambridge...you be that chimpmunk! alrighty...i'm winding down...aren't you lucky! if you're missing out on this round of catie & jimmy shows, be ready to start hearing the full band later this month...she should be rockin' then! i'll look forward to seeing her again with them in november. but first, villa montalvo tomorrow night! sleep well, y'all heather ------------------------------ End of dads-yard-digest V3 #125 *******************************
