Hoang" Subject: [dads-yard] new cds roo roo I have this huge smile on my face right now. First, I got new office furniture - YAY ME (for finally sayin' somethin')!! Also, I went to Tower at lunch today to pick up Nanci Griffith's newest release. But what I picked up instead was Gillian Welch's latest Time (The Revelator). God, it's just so gorgeous. She's got this slow, smooth, throaty voice that I'm so attracted to. It's like when someone sings you to sleep and you want to keep listening because the sound is so soothing, but because it's so soothing, you can't help but feel relaxed and sleepy. It's definitely not a rocker, but I suppose if you like to drink tea and read your favorite book all snuggled in the couch with a warm blankey and your cats purring against your cheeks, it's a real nice listen. I highly recommend it. Speaking of Austin types, last week I had the great great pleasure of seeing Eliza Gilkyson perform at a house concert here in Seattle. She's in the same vein as Gillian and Lucinda and (less pop-py) Emmylou. She reminded me that I really need to go to Austin. She's fantastic and her latest Hard Times in Babylon hasn't left my cd since the concert. Hope you all are enjoying good music too! Tawni ps. I should give I am Shelby Lynn another listen. Can't say that on first listen I adored it. But, I'll give it another try soon. ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 01 Aug 2001 02:16:05 -0400 From: Jo Norvelle Walker Subject: Re: [dads-yard] new cds roo roo Funny, Tawni -- I couldn't get the CD, but today I've been wearing her t-shirt! The one with her portrait in the recording studio, which Gillian kindly signed for me this weekend! I've had her first two CD's for a year, and they spend more than their share of time in my player -- particularly _Revival_ (for which I also have the shirt). Recently I've been playing the album _Down From The Mountain_, which has her contributions. She also signed that for me. I love Gillian's voice and David's and her playing! They and Mary Gauthier are getting me into country music. All rather gothic. Is _I Want To Sing That Rock and Roll_ on the new album? While I agree that Gillian's lovely voice is soothing, much of her material is not! On might say "disturbing". Unfortunately it does not do much for my situation, but I'll pass on a helpful comment of Gillian's: "Hey you chicks out there, playing the banjo is really a guy magnet!" Wish Catie would put her picture on a t-shirt. Another recent find for me (as far as having their new album is concerned) is Dave Carter and Tracy Grammer: I've been playing the song _I Go Like The Raven_ over and over and over again. Definitely not soothing. I so much want to hear Catie and SONiA's new CD's! Jo At 09:38 PM 07/31/01 -0700, Tawni T.
