Anyway, this is my list at the moment, but tomorrow it could easily be an other. Radical (such a strong song, helped me a lot) Burn your own house down Slave to my belly (puts a smile on my face) 100 miles (don't know why, but this song gets me crying every time) Do unto others San ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 17 Jul 2001 05:46:00 EDT From: ZESTFIVE1@aol.com Subject: Re: [dads-yard] Top 5 Songs In a message dated 07/16/2001 8:44:50 PM Central Daylight Time, NeuroticView@aol.com writes: What's the story to Dad's Yard ? > Subj: [dads-yard] Top 5 Songs > Date: 07/16/2001 8:44:50 PM Central Daylight Time > From: NeuroticView@aol.com > Sender: owner-dads-yard@smoe.org > To: dads-yard@smoe.org > > > > 4.Dad's Yard (when I heard the story that accompanied this song, I cried) ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 17 Jul 2001 08:53:46 EDT From: REBRAD@aol.com Subject: [dads-yard] Catie Top 5-ish I'm refraining from This Shirt songs 'til it's released...Otherwise, here are my Top 5 (ish) Catie tracks. 1. Minefields (From Years to Hours) My intro to Catie...it stopped me dead in my tracks and, when done, forced me to call the radio station to find out WHO it was. 2. Baby Grey (Dandelion) What a sweet song...I think if I ever have a commitment ceremony I'll want this performed live by Catie. 3. Dandelion (Dandelion) Another incredible marriage of lyric and melody and voice. 4. Silhouette (Truth From Lies) Driving rhythm and slinky sax make this one just real sexy. 5. Soulfully (Catie Curtis)/What's the Matter (Crash Course in Roses) Well, I can't decide between these two catchy tunes... Let's just take our five favorite Catie albums and be done with it. ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 17 Jul 2001 09:28:55 EDT From: NeuroticView@aol.com Subject: [dads-yard] Dad's Yard:the song story (as best i remember it, it's been a while) Catie told a story about how her father retired from his job, as a teacher ( i believe he was). And, he always had a different tie on everyday of his job. So many ties. For his retirement party, everyone who was invited went out and bought a new tie for him. IT was catie's job to write a song for the occasion. She choose to write about how her father cherished objects...well, you know the song.. it's easy to understand that part. While she was singing, people walked up and placed the ties around her father's neck. It's just a very sweet story of rememberance. It is nice when others share their stories so thoroughly. matthew ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 17 Jul 2001 18:16:28 EDT From: Danalee7@aol.com Subject: [dads-yard] sharing Catie in Tennesee Hi all- I sent some concert boots of Jackson Browne to a list friend in trade and slipped in a Catie Truth From Lies CD {the one with Wolf}- as well as a Joel Raphael Band- Hopper- and Patty Griffin concert boot- {at the Birchmere- so good} just to see if I could hook her- and here is her reply. I love turning people on to my faves! Dana in Berkeley "Also, the Catie Curtis CD is incredible. It's been a really long time since I've heard someone and liked them so much instantly. She has a beautiful voice...and seems as though she is singing exactly how I feel. (sounds a bit like Jackson, eh? :o) I can't thank you enough for allowing me to hear Catie. Does she have other CDs out? The JRB is great, as well. My son, Zachariah, really enjoys listening to that one. I haven't listened to the Patti Griffin yet...can't seem to get past the Catie Curtis CD. :o) " ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 17 Jul 2001 21:46:45 -0400 From: "Mary Ellen" Subject: Re: [dads-yard] Top 5 Songs Top 5 songs for me are Stay Up All Night and Fall Away (two fun, up-beat songs), Burn Your Own House Down (hopeful), Look At You Now (inspiring), Magnolia Street (a sweet and touching song). Runner-up: What's The Matter (my 3 year old's favorite). I got to see Catie's gig in P-town about 3 weeks ago. Catie brought her pug on stage, which was really cute. Most of her songs were from My Shirt Looks Good on You and they sounded wonderful. Songs from previous CDs included Dad's yard, What's The Matter, Magnolia Street, and Soulfully. I brought a couple of Virgin-Catie listeners to the show and they were quickly converted (even buying CDs after show).
