Hoang" Subject: RE: [dads-yard] NCCC: other music Hey everyone! Oooh baby, Mary Chapin Carpenter and Lucinda Williams, two of my very favorite red hot country rock stars!!! Well, okay, what red hot country *should* be... They are rock stars though - I don't swoon for just anyone. Both their new albums are outstanding. I do agree with Deb though, kind of a disappointment to not get something as quintessential as Car Wheels. I do love hearing Lucinda's voice though. On a related note, anyone an Eliza Gilkinson fan? I heard her cd at a bar months ago and am now coming around to investigating her more to pick up a cd. I think she sounds rough and edgy and smokey and real, just like Lucinda does. So, news news news! I finally get to see Veda Hille this weekend! There were a number of you on the list that recommended her some time ago. I'm very much looking forward to the house concert and am contemplating getting a cd. Suggestions??? By the way, some time back a few of you also recommended Tegan and Sara. I saw them open for Rufus Wainright and they were great. Great chemistry with each other and with the audience, great harmonies, great songs. They do have the Ani energy and one of them blew me away with her guitar playing licks. Okay, some Catie content. This has been mentioned before, but I would like to add that I don't remember laughing quite so much as when I saw Miss Folk America (on video for us unfortunate folks living no where near Boston). For those who are familiar with the Boston area folk music scene, or even just the folk scene nationally, Faith Soloway (www.faithsoloway.com) hits all the buttons that make the video worth seeing: special cameo appearances, male vs. female folk singers, folk and pop sections at the record store, Club Passim. And Catie of course, acts likes herself, showing us once again why she's so likable. Enjoy the rest of June everyone. Take care, Tawni ------------------------------ End of dads-yard-digest V3 #83 ******************************
