August is just around the bend. Till then, I've been listening to the new Alejandro Escoveda CD which is exquisite, the new Lucinda, which is lush, and a CD called Cul de Sac Cowgirl by the DC band Little Pink--great songs with a Big Pink sensibility. Must now acquire MCC. Rob >>> "Hudson, Jeff ( WES )" 06/11/01 09:31PM >>> So 9 weeks until Catie's new CD? So close, yet so far away. Luckily, I have Mary Chapin Carpenter's new one to tide me over for a while. Any other MCC fans out there? I found out about Catie through an MCC show a few years back. Anyway, I think her new CD is amazing...her best work since Come On, Come On in my opinion. It's a great selection, called "Eve's Mouth," about feminism. So if you have to have everything Catie is on, get this cd. And if you don't feel compelled for that reason, get this cd anyway! It's excellent! Very provocative, like Ani. Wow! Hubby and I LOVE MCC. We love MCC because she's the "smarter" country music singer. (none of the tired, cliche topics or lyrics). I don't know why, but my hubby isn't a Catie fan. I thought when we went to see her open for MCC, I might make a convert out of him, but we got caught in traffic, and he ended up parking the car during her set! Oh well, I got to swoon by myself, and it was probably better that way. ;-) Most of the country artists I listen to tend to be that way, but I mean really, MCC STARTED in Folk music. "This Shirt" was the first MCC song I ever heard, and it is still my favorite. We don't have "Party Doll" even, and now there is this now, great sounding album! We must get a move on - I love that song...."great wide open"? I was just reading the title last night, and think I've got it wrong, but y'all know the one I mean, right? :-) Warm wishes for a fun summer full of live music! Cool thread contribution, Amy! "This Shirt" sounds like a good song to listen to while waiting for "My Shirt Looks Good on You" to be released. :-) I do have to say that "Stones in the Road" is definitely my favorite MCC album though. As for what I'm currently listening to, I just can't seem to get enough of the "Judybats '00" CD. It has my highest recommendation! Incidentally, you can listen to a few of the Judybats' latest songs at their new/redone web site ("http://www.judybats.com"). Use Internet Explorer, as the site is not very Netscape-friendly. And, if you have the downloading bandwidth, remember to check out the cool Catie boots at my Catie MP3 site ("http://dcs.umd.edu/~mark/catie"). Maybe they'll help everyone hang in there until August 21st! :-) I'm going to see the Crash Test Dummies at the Rams Head in Annapolis, MD, next Wednesday. I don't suppose there are many Dummies fans on this list, but I'd also recommend their recent "Give Yourself a Hand" CD--a fun and energetic bunch of tunes. And if you are a fan (and even if you're not), check out "Send Me Home" and "Anybody Will Do" by Ellen Reid (their keyboard player/vocalist), at her "Musical Interludes" site ("http://www.msellenreid.com/interludes/interludes.html"). Finally, the jury's still out on Ani's new double-CD. What do other listers think of it? Amy Kelly wrote: > Hubby and I LOVE MCC. We love MCC because she's the "smarter" country music > singer. Count me in as another (lurking) Catie fan who discovered her through her appearances with MCC. (And found this list through Tawni who once was part of an MCC List). So glad to have the opportunity to hear Catie open twice for Mary Chapin (Santa Rosa '98 & Villa Montalvo '99). The only other time I've been able to see Catie was opening for Dar in San Francisco last fall. I'm envious of you folks who have been able to see a FULL Catie set! I'm anxious for the new album! Loved the "church burning down" song from last fall. The "great wide open" lyrics of MCC's are from "Almost Home". It appears on Party Doll and Other Favorites, so when you buy that one, you'll have it! Party Doll is great for hearing different versions of the songs you already know & love. The new MCC album is one I find I want to listen to with headphones and take it all in without distraction!
