I usually try to stay pretty on topic. If you aren't in the Boston area, you can just hit delete right now. I am the managing director of a theatre company in Boston called Centastage. We do all new plays by New England playwrights, and we co-produce, with Underground Railway Theater, an annual festival of plays by women. This year's Women on Top Theater Festival opens this Thursday, February 22nd and runs through Sunday, March 18th. This year, do to popular demand, we are running on two stages at Boston Playwrights' Theatre (home of the Boston Theatre Marathon and only a few doors down from The Paradise). Right now, we are looking for people to usher for the shows. Since we are running on two stages at once, ushers are more important that ever. The deal is, you show up one hour prior to curtain. Help stuff programs, and get the theatre in shape. You tear tickets. Then you see the show for FREE. After the show, all you have to do is help collect surveys and straighten up a bit. What could be easier? We can accommodate two ushers per show per night. If you want to usher, contact our beautiful house manager, Celeste, by leaving a message on the Centastage voice mail at (617) 536-5981 or e-mailing to wotusher@yahoo.com. "But," you say, "I don't know anything about the festival. What shows are playing and when?" Have no fear. Visit www.centatstage.org and click on "Boston Women on Top" in the artistic director's letter. Everything you need to know is right there. An annual tradition, the Boston Women on Top Theater Festival is a rich celebration of our local female playwrights and performers. Refugees trying to rebuild their lives, journeys of self-exploration, cultural masks, transformations, celebrations of the erotic, the whimsical, and the poetic, love, death and barbecue saucethis year's festival takes us on a journey to explore what makes us who we are. If you'd prefer to buy tickets, and I would never discourage that, give the box office a call at (617) 332-0546. They can also send you out a paper brochure. Thank you for indulging me. E-mail me privately if you'd like any more information. Now back to your regularly scheduled programming.... Joy Elyse p.s. I have offered both Melissa and Catie free passes to the festival, so maybe you'll even see them there. :) Get personalized email addresses from Yahoo!
