I remember vaguely hearing that Catie was playing at First Night in Providence. Anyone know if this is true, because I can't seem to find any information to support that? Thanks! Hello to all those newbies who have joined our fine group: Ruth, Erin and Johanna! Welcome. Glad to see you here. Lots of great discussion starters: I think my favorite album is probably "Catie Curtis," because that is when I seriously got into Catie's music. I worked my way backward, getting "Truth from Lies," and forward, when "Roses" came out. As for Dandelion, there are bootlegs of it floating around, and for the longest time, there was some place/one who'd pop up on the list and let us know that the originals -- which came out only in cassette -- were still around somewhere in some tiny place. So, we're sending out a cyber-flare for help. Yeah, I like "Radical" a lot, too -- of course -- and "What's the Matter?" from the latest one. Other than that, I'd say my faves change depending on my mood. Again, welcome! Hope you all jump right in. Take care and Happy Holidays! Deb PS: Now playing: Ellis Paul Live...I cannot listen to anyone who is NOT from New England or other similar parts North when it's snowing. It's like their souls are more connected to the snow. ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 22 Dec 2000 09:17:04 -0800 From: johanna Subject: Re: [dads-yard] Welcome to all the newcomers! my favorite catie song right now is "you can always be gone" which was kind of an anthem of mine for a while, altho' i misheard some of the chorus, which changed a lot of the meaning, it turned out. ;) i love the "radical" video! i think catie looks so cute (in a lovable, goofy way). :) i also looooove "magnolia street"--i'm a sap! i'm crossing my fingers for the mysterious provider of _dandelion_ to pop up again. :) johanna i might be a social disease but i can't be caught! -lois ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 22 Dec 2000 08:38:12 -0800 (PST) From: Becky Rickert Subject: [dads-yard] Melissa Ferrick, Dandelion, Fav CD... I have been very excited to see all the discussion on this list. Mucho fun. I thought I'd comment on a few of the topics. First, to the person asking about Melissa Ferrick. Wonderful woman with amazing talent. I know that several of us here are also fans of hers. My favorite album of Melissa's has to be Willing to Wait, followed by Freedom. I recommend checking all her stuff out though...fabulous. Go to CDBaby.com to get most of her albums. Second, those of you asking about Dandelion. I have a bootleg copy of it and I would be willing to make copies for those who would like one. I must warn you however that as I am in the process of moving, it'll be a few weeks till I can get to your requests. And last but not least, the true Catie content of this post...I'm all about Truth from Lies. Each of Catie's albums take on a slightly different flavor and TFL, is my favorite. From Years to Hours has a bit too much brass for me, but Crash Course in Roses, and Catie Curtis, both get plenty of air time in my stereo. I'm curious to know how many of you out there have both versions of Truth From Lies. I have a burned copy of the original and recently bought the new release. I just can't get used to the new order. Very nerve racking...any other thoughts? K...my 2 cents for the day...happy holidays! ~Becky Yahoo! Shopping - Thousands of Stores. Naden" Subject: Re: [dads-yard] which cd and basketball Greetings from the land of endless rain (seattle)-- I got "Truth From Lies" on a whim when it got (re)released by Guardian several years ago. Given that the stores around here mostly sell the top 40 stuff, I can't remember how I even found it or where. I certainly had never heard of Catie before that. Anyhow, that cd was kind of folky-which I am partial to--and pop enough to grab my attention. So when I found out that Catie was coming to our big music thing--the Bumbershoot Festival--I made sure to go see her (even though most of my friends said who? why?). The show was outdoors in a small enclosed patio area of the seattle center and it was Catie on guitar, Jimmy Ryan (with a really cool electric mandolin) and a woman who played percussion--get this--on a sampsonite style suitcase. You read that right! And they played the songs off of her next album which was not quite on the market yet. I was hooked. Bought the cd there (Catie Curtis) and had her autograph it (she was sooo very nice to everyone)... So I guess on some level Truth from Lies is a favorite, but I also really like Catie Curtis. I have her earlier stuff too--one is a cd and one is a tape. Until I hear it's kosher, I don't really feel like they are fair game to boot for people... copyrights and all... On a non-music note (but because Catie is an avid BBall fan, I consider this Catie content!), the University of Washington women's basketball team is off to a grand start this season--at least as far as home games go. I've never seen it! I'll also have to put my vote in for "Catie Curtis" as the album to start with, I do think it's the best intro to her music. Also, in response to Becky's post, in terms of the "original" TFL, there was an earlier one than the version we all know and love--the version with the "Fresh Prince of Bel-Air"-style basketball scene on the cover...don't know if that's the one you are referring to or not. The pictures crack me up! Thanks!
