It is the same song. She used the train, with its 92 >boxcars pushing across the Ohio to its destination, as a metaphor for how >nothing would stop her from reaching her love. At least that was my >interpretation. It is a beautiful song. It's interesting that the song is so well-liked here. It's been roundly panned on the Melissa Ferrick list, which is generally supportive of Catie. I can't say it left much of an impression on me either way, so that's probably not good, but it could have more to do with the fact that she was playing in a terrible venue for her music (9:30 Club in DC) and I was just annoyed at the rudeness all around me. :-) - -- Deb \\ indigo@mindspring.com \\ http://www.mindspring.com/~indigo ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 22 Nov 2000 17:11:50 -0800 (PST) From: Marie Lawson Subject: Re: [dads-yard] new catie songs Hi all! I'm mostly an incorrigible lurker, but I saw Catie play last night (opening for Dar in NYC) and wanted to say that I'm totally crazy about the new "Jane" song too! (for which she had a drummer -- he was onstage for about half the set, while the other half was only Catie and Jimmy) The beat just settles into my bones and the chorus has had this thrilling effect on me every time I've heard it. It was definitely my favorite of the set by far, though the "Elizabeth" song was also incredibly beautiful. Catie didn't do the drum thing with her foot, but I've seen it in other concerts -- twice, I believe. :-) She really was amazing last night (as always)... full of this lean, springy, sparkling energy. Can't wait for the new album! - --Marie - --- Abbett@aol.com wrote: > gosh, i love that new "jane" song! i went to see > catie in atlanta. and a > lot of people seemed to like "elizabeth" but i > really love "jane." anyone > else feel the same? maybe i was so crazy about it > because it was the only > song that night with drums. dar's drummer came out > to play drums on that > song. the beat was so cool. i was hoping catie > would do the drum thing with > her foot. i saw her do it in birmingham last year > at city stages. does she > use this instrument often? that wooden thing. you > know what i mean? > > anyway, i am loving all the catie mail thanks to the > current tour! > > amanda Yahoo! Catie felt she had to do something and asked us to translate "Jane" in dutch. A guy transformed it in Sjaan, wich caused a lot of fun, 'cause she just couldn't get it right. Great song though.
